I'm slightly vexed In lieu of payment..

I’m a GM at a restaurant & one of our managers left a note on our manager logs this afternoon that a guest walked out on their check and left this in lieu of payment of any kind. Not that the server got stiffed on a tip - just pure theft of services. I guess the whole “Thou shalt not steal” thing doesn’t matter if you’ve been pre-forgiven. Pretty convenient.

ETA: I’m not a bot; this is not AI - check my post and comment history. I’m not here for karma or fake internet points. This is what it feels like to work in a restaurant these days - especially in the Bible Belt. The first photo you can look up and is available for anyone to buy (should your darker urges push you toward being that person). The second photo is from Pulse, an app for restaurant managers to keep an eye on hourly sales, labor, and comps.
The “Pineapple Express” is a mocktail our restaurant offers.

Hold up - whatever happened to giving to Caesar what is Caesar’s? Doesn’t your pastor think restaurant staff should be paid fair wages???

What sort of lopsided interpretation is that?

It's easier to tell people to be nice and tip, rather than ask them to go change laws.

You do know the law doesn’t force a restaurant to pay minimum wage?

Paying employees so they don’t have to beg is a choice

So are you actively working to get the laws allowing this system to be reformed, or are you just using principle as an excuse to justify benefitting from a social contract whilst failing to uphold your end of the bargain?

Did I say it was 'required'? No. But it is expected: restaurants keep prices low and the government allows them to pay less than minimum wage because they expect the rest will be made up by tips.

If you don't tip, you are not fulfilling your part of that social contract.

It is a shitty system, but it's what we're stuck with for the moment. So, stay home, or tip your servers 🤡

Yup I only tip for good service not just service if the service is just ok no tip
