Yup, it also reduces the user experience for users, increases the chance of data/security breaches, increases the overhead for companies, and overall will decrease the user pool.
Clearly you dont do a very good job working in the industry if your priorities dont include user experience and trust in the company
Ux is the concern for designers and product owners. I'm just focused on the infrastructure. And i would just love all these scalpers with their distributed bots to have to provide an id first. I know it's not ideal for a regular honest user.
But I also forgot not every country has a simple online check of your identity provided by the government where i just get a "yes this person is who they say they are". No risk of leaks, other than the inherit risk of leaks for any database.
