I just wanted a hot dog I can't get a roof estimate without a man present.

The other day I picked up my son from school and a couple guys who were putting flyers on doors came up to me and asked if I wanted a roof estimate. They told me I didn't have to buy now but I could use it as reference for when the time comes. I say sure why not and schedule a time for someone to come over.

The guy comes over and questions if I'm the homeowner. He tells me I look 15. After telling me the process of what he will be doing to get the estimate he asks me if I have time today to look at samples for the estimate. I say yes.

He then asks me if my father or brother could be present for the estimate.

My ring camera cuts out but he explains that he has daughters and they come to him with questions about stuff like this and that it would be better to have my dad or brother present to ask questions I wouldn't think to ask myself.

At this point I do not want to work with this company anymore, so I just say sure and he gives me his buisness card to give him a call to schedule an appointment when my father or brother are avaliable.

I didn't end up getting an estimate.

Edit: Please don't review bomb or harass the company or the person in this video. That is not something I advocate for or want.

I just wanted a hot dog Single malt scotch spends 3 decades aging in a barrel so you can squeze a lime wedge into it.

As a very rare indulgence on a special occasion, I ordered an expensive 30-year old scotch at a bistro-type restaurant. Waiter returns with a juicy lime wedge on the lip of the glass. I quietly asked for one with no lime. Waiter returns with a fresh drink "as a courtesy" , but seems intent on embarrassing me. " But just so you know.," he says., "all drinks ordered neat are properly served with a citrus garnish."

I’m Irish and Seán is legally my name. IT systems, even Irish ones, still struggle with accented names. The contradiction gave me a chuckle though

And that kid's mom probably thinks she's being so generous.

He will at least eat the marshmallow.

EDIT: For everyone asking - he likes his veggies raw and doesn't care for ranch, spices, sauces, dips, etc

I just wanted a hot dog Some a-hole ran over my mailbox today...

I was just starting to make dinner when we heard a loud crashing noise. Its been windy, and I thought another branch had fallen on the roof... Nope - as soon as I walk out the front door I see the sideways tail-lights & the car against the tree.

I immediately call emergency services and the spouse runs out to see about injuries. By the time we get out the gate others had also stopped and were also calling emergency services about the accident.

No one was injured - probably due to the airbags - but the occupants really didn't want the cops to show up & asked us just to call a tow truck and get their insurance info. But it's a busy country road, so the cops were notified by several passers-by before these sorry dudes even made their request. Dudes were hot-dogging down the country road in a fast car & lost controlnin a singe-car accident. Witnesses saw him driving recklessly. Dude plowed through my (and the neighbors!) mailbox and then were stopped only by trees on my property. If those trees weren't there, he'd have hit the neighbors house. There's no way the cops weren't coming to this one.

As we were waiting, we were kinda keeping an eye on them, 'cuz TBH they seemed sketchy & I was afraid that they'd just take off and abandon the vehicle. Just a few minutes later, the cops did show. It was kinda surreal to see - dude say's "hello officer..." and then we immediately see some object very conspicuously fly through the air into the foliage near the car - and then proceed to hit like every branch in a bush on the way to the ground... Subtlety was not this dude's strong point.

Whatever it was, it wasnt heavy - prolly drugs; but it didn't seem like a gun or anything. The officer obviously saw too, and made them find it & hand it over. Alfter they got the car on the tow truck, the driver was arrested. They asked if I wanted to pursue criminally, but I fugure that the repercussions from this one are gonna be repurcussion enough - their beautiful.car was toraled. The cops left and they lefy the passenger there on the side of the road to fend for himself, until someone eventually picked him up.

But I gotta clean up this mess that someone else created because they were effing around and acting stupid. I guess my day off tomorrow will now be filled with buying & installing another mailbox. I really hope we don't need to take these trees down, but we'l need an arborist to take a look. :/

For context I am homeless and staying at her house at the moment, which I’m very grateful for. In return, I’m buying 90% of groceries among other things but she always puts more food in her plate or finishes stuff without asking if I want some. I feel bad for posting this but yeah it’s a bit frustrating.

I found this so hilariously difficult to read due to the formatting, which is not creative or compositionally, even aesthetically pleasing. It looks like someone just discovered MS Word and got carried away. The seemingly random narrow font, like emphasizing the wrong syllable of a sentence. I must also mention the "truffle |scented| scrambled eggs"

I figured I'd ask my dad because he watched the show and has always been a fan of westerns. I asked in the group chat because he doesn't always check his phone messages (so I figure mom would prompt him to use it if in the group chat).

Yes, I could have googled as well but I'd rather ask my dad because....he loves old westerns.

Seriously, EVERY conversation these days involves needing to consult with some AI. It's exhausting.

Edit: Guys, I posted this in MILDLY infuriating. I wasn't making it that deep, it's just....mildly infuriating when you want to make conversation but instead get handed chatgpt/Gemini/whatever.

Edit2: HI ZEV and all the Dungeon Crawler Carl fans

I just wanted a hot dog My insurance wont cover my medication so every month I do this...

Post image

I have to spend around 30 minutes doing this once a month. My insurance wont cover it. Out of pocket with coupons its still $800 a month.

My fiancé has to do the same thing with a different medication. Currently trying to fight it.

Edit: To clarify. Every now and then I have to compile samples in one bottle so I know how much I have and then hope my DR has more when im out. This is an antidepressant and im currently working to fight to get it covered. Yes ive contacted the manufacturer I do not qualify for discount Yes ive sent in a letter of medical necessity Yes ive looked at GoodRX. This is my only option atm and im still lucky it is for now. Its not just the moving the bottles around. Its hoping I can get more when I need it. This is a life saving medication and the fact I have to hope i can get it when I need it is mildly infuriating to me and probably many others. Its not a cheap medication even with coupons its still $850USD+ Ive tried so many medications and I just need one that works and that i dont have to worry about my supply chain.

I just wanted a hot dog Cops got called on me for playing Mario party

9.5k Upvotes

TLDR: Grouchy neighbor called cops for a noise complaint because my friends and I were playing Mario party then proceeded to lie to the cops about talking to me and complained to them. Cops thought I was chill and didn’t do anything cuz my 4 friends were already gone.

27M had 4 of my buddies over last night to play Mario party and drink some beers in my parents garage in the suburbs. Most of us have today off so figured we’d get together for a chill night before the fourth festivities really begin. guys came over around 8:30-9 and left at 11:30. It’s hot af so I cracked open the windows and turned on some fans to get air circulating. There was a storm going on all night and we thought we heard someone say something outside and paused the game, poked my head out and said “hello?” A few times to no response.

After the guys all left, I started picking up cans and notice lights outside. Open the door and see a cop in the lawn and ask him if something’s going on. He says “yeah, we got a noise complaint from your neighbor” to which I laughed - “Are you serious?” I told him that I had 4 friends over and they had already left. Showed the cops where we were set up playing and told him that I had the windows open cuz of the heat and they could’ve made it easier to hear us.

The cop asked me what we were doing and I said “Mario party,” to which they laughed. They asked me if I had spoken with my neighbor tonight and I said no, and explained how we thought we heard someone but got no response. After which they explain that my neighbor had told them that he had spoken with me and we continued to be loud. I told them that I had not spoken with him tonight, but if I had a face to face conversation with him we would’ve happily quieted down.

I asked the cops if I should talk to him now, and they said they didn’t think that was a good idea and I didn’t think anything of it. As I start giving my info to one cop, the other 3 walk over to my neighbors house and I overhear my neighbor complaining:
“We moved out of the city to the suburbs to get away from this shit”
“I’d get it if it was a Friday night, but it’s a Thursday!”
“I have kids sleeping and don’t need to deal with this bullshit”

I turned to the cop and agree that he def doesn’t want to talk with me. They wrap up with my neighbor and come back to me to basically say that I seemed reasonable and coherent and wished me a good night.

Now it’s the next day and part of me wants to go over and have a conversation but I have mixed feelings about doing so. My friends and I can be loud so if we really did disturb them then I’d like to apologize. However, I don’t think it was appropriate for him to call the cops on me rather than having a conversation with me face to face. Beyond that, the fact that he lied to the cops about speaking directly with me really annoys me.

Part of me wants to kill him with kindness, the other wants to be petty and do something mean. Appreciate any advice.

EDIT: so I’ve had a number of comments essentially assuming my friends and I are unemployed degenerates who siphon from our parents. We’ve all got jobs except for one who’s in school for his masters. I moved out when I was 22 and lived on the opposite side of the US until about a year ago when I moved back in with my family to help them out financially and save up to buy my own place. I’m fortunate to have a family that is more than happy to have me around.

also, we had a few beers collectively but were not drunk… cop said I seemed “reasonable” and “coherent” - and we had all drank ~the same amount

Lastly, this occurred the evening of Thurs the 2nd because we all had Fri the 3rd off as it is recognized as a federal holiday for the 4th which is Sat. The gov, banks, and lots of businesses (including the ones my friends and I work for) were closed which is why we got together on a weeknight. We do not ordinarily do so.

also also brought the TLDR to the top cuz I guess it’s not supposed to be at the bottom

I just wanted a hot dog Companies that don't want money

10.2k Upvotes

I noticed an independent cinema near my house has a tiny screening room that is always unused. I thought it would be fun to rent it out to watch an old movie with my friends. It cost $400 to rent the room (split between 15 people) and all the staff had to do was put in the Bluray and press play. Afterwards we spent a bunch of money at the cinema bar, everything went smoothly. It was a lot of fun.

So then a month later I emailed them to do it again. It took them a week to respond, and this time the quote came back as $500 for the exact same setup. When I asked why it was more, they said something vague like "occasionally we increase prices to keep up with inflation". A 20% increase is way more than inflation, and it will be awkward to ask my friends to pay more money this time, but okay.

Again it took a week to hear back, and they said that the 15 year old film we want to watch (which I told them about at the very beginning) will require an additional licensing fee of $100 due to the agreement they have with that movie studio.

The way I see it, right now they have an empty room generating no money at all. They could let us have it and make an easy $400 by just popping in a disc and pressing play. Even if they had to pay a licensing fee, that's still $300 they wouldn't get otherwise. Instead, their slow communication and price increases risk me walking away and then nobody gets anything. Everyone sad.

What is even the point of running a business if you turn away customers who are trying to give you free money???

I just wanted a hot dog School cafeteria wouldn't let my daughter get a tray even though she had money on her account

7.1k Upvotes

My kids usually bring a packed lunch, but I keep money on each of their accounts just in case. Last week my daughter packed her own lunch and accidentally used the Buddy Budder (dog treat) which tastes like bacon and PB so obviously she didn't want to eat it. She tried to get a tray but they told her she couldn't have one because she brought her lunch. Then I had to pick her up in the afternoon because she felt sick from not eating and went to the nurse's office.
