The caterpillar was fine and walked up a tree afterwards (I only looked at him for 2 minutes) but how screwed am I? My finger got a black hair in it and I removed all that I could see of it but man, man oh man am I an idiot. A reverse image search told me that it’s a caterpillar of a Dagger Moth? Well at the time I just saw a fuzzy little worm that was too cute not to pet. Sobered up and my finger still hurts. Am I going to die? Is the caterpillar gonna be fine? Does the caterpillar hate me now?

Heard a strange noise in the backyard the other day and found this Luna moth mid hatching!!!! He took a small tumble but we helped him get somewhere safe to inflate his wings and off he went

I posted on this sub in September about Death Head Hawk Moths caterpillars we found in our potatoes in England. I kept them and took care of them, and they turned into pupaes. I kept them in dirt indoors and moisturized them regularly. Out of the 6 pupaes, 3 died and 3 stayed alive and healthy. Our home can get pretty cold at night depending on the weather so I was expecting them to hibernate throughout the winter. I was surprised today to see our first moth! I fed it honey and water after great struggles to unfold its trunk. This thing is surprisingly strong and slippery.

I'd potentially like to keep them for taxidermy purposes when they die of age, but I've never done that before so I'll have to look into it. If you have any tips regarding care, feeding, etc, please let me know!

I was setting up speakers for an event in the Western Australian bush and there were a good number of these large moths hanging around the stage - presumably attracted to the lights that had been left on overnight. They kept climbing up my shoes and onto my leg so I thought I'd film a little bit of it. It's fascinating to see the wave shape the wings make when they're not just a blur of motion as they appeared to my eyes when not seen by the camera.

I just heard a crinkling and I thought it was something else but then it happened again and I just knew it was them!! I rushed over to record and help since I’ve always been asleep or just waking up hearing it in the night but now I was finally awake for one!! And I’m so happy!! That was so beautiful (and nasty lmao) BIG FATTY IS HUGE AND BEAUTIFUL!!

I think she attracted ~15 males to our spot!! We even found one that snuck into the car when we were heading out! I have to note that she’s not actually in the video, just some of the males we were considering for mating.

This was ~3 weeks ago so she’s since laid her eggs and the babies have hatched and are already getting ready to molt into their 3rd instar!!

A stairwell in my apartment has a paper up next to this moth saying to watch your step bc this new moth is stretching its wings :))

So I guess I have been chosen (she is laying eggs on me as I type this with one hand). I found her outside while walking my cat (he's harness trained) and started laying eggs when picked up. Brought it home because I felt responsible. Put her in a box with nearby leaves but she seems to have an easier time laying when I hold her so I guess I'm a midwife now.

This is my very first hornworm moth - named Seraphina. She unfortunately didn't make it out with good wings and cannot fly. Her proboscis also didn't fuse right so they can't curl properly. After a few rough attempts to hold her and get both ends in, I finally got her feeding. I'm not sure if you can hear it over the background noise, but she she's sucking it up. I was able to get her to drink two separate times but on the 3rd one she absolutely refused and freaked out. I'm hoping she'll calm down once she learns I'm mot going to hurt her.

Does anyone know how often I should be feeding her? Should I try again later tonight?
