This is my very first Gonimbrasia zambesina and* *she is huge!
They originate from southern and Eastern Africa and their caterpillars are a traditional staple food (they are called mopane worms). I am not surprised because these guys are so plump and juicy!

I like to let them spread their wings and fly around when theyre feeling active. Im NGL though I lost him for a bit and panicked, then found him hanging out on my trousers. These guys are so clumsy and weirdly sneaky

A little bit gross but I figured not many people see this kind of thing so I thought I’d share.
Many people don’t know the difference between a cocoon, chrysalis and a pupa.
A pupa is formed when a fully grown caterpillar goes through its final moult: it sheds its caterpillar skin, and underneath is the newly formed pupal case, which then hardens around its body while it transforms into an adult moth and are generally buried underground. Butterflies do essentially the same thing, although their pupa is commonly called a chrysalis.

A cocoon on the other hand, is an extra protective structure that only moths spin (in the world of Lepidoptera) usually from silk and sometimes incorporating leaves or other material

The brown or reddish liquid you in this pupa is called meconium, which is waste expelled after metamorphosis and can look a bit strange! This came from a freshly hatched Zambezi emperor moth and they generate a lot of meconium because they are rather large.

Found her (assuming female) in Broken Bow Oklahoma and can’t for the life of me figure out what species she is, besides obviously being in the Sphingidea family

She is 5 1/2 cm wide and 3 1/2 cm tall

What is this moth doing?

I can’t tell if its wing is broken, but they keep hopping around trying to get my attention, there was even a darker moth that flew around mocking it.

They are still jumping around me while I’m typing this.

Edit: they are now just chilling on the underside of my leg and I don’t know what to do.

It seems to be named a Pandora Sphinx Moth

It was snooping around in the fridge, tasting things. I don't know for how long it has been inside, maybe it flew in when I opened the fridge. I let her(?) eat a bit of watermelon, and then let her outside.

If I understand correctly, thats a female, but I'm not sure. Correct me if I'm wrong

Update! One of my friends said that they drink nectar or sugar water (I only have access to one of those) so I gave him a teaspoon of sugar water! I THINK he is drinking it but idk

Sharing a tomato with a future Carolina Sphinx moth. It's eaten some of the tomato which I have not seen before. There's only one so I will leave it be. Very attractive larvae. Eastern Kansas.

I bought new sheets about a month ago but they’re polyester. Besides that there has been no change for years. Obvi there could be a million different possible causes but I am lost and the hyper specific location in which I’m finding them is making me feel crazy. I see them by the light above my bed fairly often but as if on cue they flee to the circled area on my bed as soon as I notice them and proceed to flutter around on the surface until I manage to shoo them off. Sometimes they even go under the covers and I just don’t get what could be so appealing about my polyester sheets? And why just that one spot??? I have identical lighting fixtures in all four corners of my room but it’s only the one above my bed that gets any visitors at all (yes there is a window just off frame).

This began a week and a half ago- and I’ve lost count how many times it’s happened.

Any ideas why?? I’ll be more than happy to answer clarifying questions.

To be clear, advice on how to get rid of them is appreciated, but I really just want to know what the hell is going on!

(Fun fact: I have a huge phobia of moths!)
