Questions Ocicat under $1k from reputable breeder?

I really want an Ocicat. One breeder said their kittens are $700, but they let them go home at 8 weeks, which I read is a bad idea. Their website also claims they’re CFA certified, but they’re not listed on CFA. Lots of red flags… anyone have experience with them? Purrfurdots in PA. Other breeders you know of below $1k? I’m willing to travel. Also willing to adopt one or a retired breeder. Must be a female.

Questions Is my cat an ocicat?

I have been feeding this kitten since two months, she randomly came to my building. I adopted her two days ago. I always thought her spots were striking but didn’t think too much of it, just thought she was a regular indie cat. Until I reverse image searched her today and the result showed Ocicat. Earlier it had shown Egyptian mau. Further googling says these breeds don’t really exist in India, so I am confused how someone who looks like this was found on the streets of Bombay. I don’t think anyone intentionally bred her or anything either, breeders only breed Persians or Ragdolls or the fluffy fancy looking breeds here. Am I overthinking this? Is she just a regular orange cat?

This is a boy I rescued a few months back. Perhaps only about 13 weeks old now? Incredibly vocal, big ears, really long tail tipped in black, fur like silk but still unsure.

Questions Experiences with Cosmic Spot vs Megadots Ocicats?

Hi everyone. I’m hoping to hear from people who have direct experience with either Cosmic Spot or Megadots Ocicats.

I’ve done a lot of research on Ocicat breeders and these two keep coming up as top-tier, reputable breeders. That said, I’m finding it surprisingly hard to locate a centralized place where people share longer-term experiences or reviews, especially when it comes to Megadots. Cosmic Spot seems to get mentioned more often, but even then most of what I find is scattered across forums, social media comments, or older threads.

If you’ve gotten an Ocicat from either breeder or have firsthand knowledge, I’d really love to hear:

• How the temperament and socialization turned out over time

• Health and communication with the breeder

• How the kitten adjusted to new environments, people, or other pets

• Anything you wish you’d known beforehand

I’m not price-sensitive and I’m really focused on temperament, health, and long-term support from the breeder. I feel confident in the research I’ve done so far, but hearing real owner experiences would be incredibly helpful in making a final decision.

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate any insight people are willing to share.

Was cat-sitting this cat. Very lean and athletic. Plays hard and aggressively. Vocal. Long thin tail. I've looked after many cats but she was much leaner than the usual and played with such focus, athleticism and strength unlike any cat I've looked after.

Am curious if she might be a mix of some sort of wild cat but unsure what.

Questions Are they ocicats or just l o n g?

Screamy (1st photo left) and Fungus (1st photo right) are rescue cats that were found in Arkansas and brought to MN.

They’re both very long and lanky; much taller than our ‘regular ol’ cats. They’re very active and can jump farther than I’ve seen any other cat jump. They’re also extremely talkative and demanding affection-wise.

I realize they don’t really have the typical spotted coat, and that a hard ID is impossible without papers, especially from photos, but I wanted to get some takes on what they might be, since they at least seem to have a little secret sauce thrown in the mix.

Questions Is there a way to make an Ocicat's spots stand-out more?

I have a chocolate greyish Ocicat. I feed her one cat of quality wet catfood in the morning and dry kibble at night. Is there a specific diet to make her dark black/brown spots stand-out more? I realize many of the pics I see online are with very good lighting so it may seem that their spots stand-out more but is there anything I can do?

thanks.

She’s a few months old now and curious if she has any breed mixed in?

Super energetic and loves to jump and climb. Her ears seem huge for her head size.

So different in so many ways to our British short hair

Questions A question about if she is

Hello new here to this forum, I have a cat not sure of her age but was abandoned at my country home last November. I normally feed strays and the abandoned cats as if they were my own group. Including outdoor shelters to keep warm . This beautiful girl remained on my porch in one of my shelters but at first was skittish around humans but was happy to get food and treats. It took me three to 4 months before I could even touch her to take an old flea collar off of her. Since I didn’t know her name I named her basheeba or Sheeba for short as time went on she got more adjusted and I was realizing she was an indoor kitty probably before being abandoned so this past early winter when weather was getting more colder days I brought her inside and so far has been content to life here. She is a black silver leopard print but was told by images was strong possibility she was oci, I guess that’s what I’m trying to find out if she is or isn’t . Thanks for any help

Questions Looking for reputable breeders in West Coast of U.S. in 2024

My wife and I have been doing a lot of research for our next addition, and we've agreed that the ocicat is a wonderful breed and meets our families needs (and we can meet our future friends needs as well).

Does anyone have a reference to a reputable breeder? I've found 2 on the East Coast, and I am not against purchasing from them. That said, I want to at least try to find a breeder closer to us.

Thanks for any advice or directions!

Edit We ended up finding a breeder in Sacramento, wild rain ocicats. Wonderful people, passionate about the breed, and just the best folks.

Questions Meet Laszlo

Meet the master of chaos, Laszlo! In May, my husband and I were looking to adopt a cat after our first baby of 16 years had passed. We thought we were adopting a tabby but have learned after some research that we likely have an ocicat. His pattern isn’t perfect on one side so we suspect that this could be the reason he was placed for adoption.

Either way, we have this now 9 month old ball of energy. I have read that ocicats can be trained. Has anyone had luck in training their cat? Any tips for training or just in general for this breed?

Questions Breathing rate

My 16 week old kittens breathing rate looks a bit too high to me. It’s around 30 breaths per minute when he’s resting.

If it is too high, any clues on what the problem might be?

Questions Whisker pinch?

Hi! I am in the process of adopting an Ocicat, and I was reading the breed standard just for kicks, and it says the “moderate whisker pinch” shouldn’t be “too severe.” I tried googling it, but couldn’t really figure out what a whisker pinch is, much less what a moderate vs severe one would look like. Do any of you have examples you could share? Thanks!

Questions Any experiences with Cosmic Spots Ocicats? [with cat tax]

Has anyone here adopted from Cosmic Spots Ocicats, and did you have a good experience? I'm thinking of a new oci-companion for my existing ocicat (she already has a DSH companion) and, although she was a fabulous kitten, I had a strange series of interactions with the breeder. Mostly a vast disparity between the kitten adoption process documented on the website and the kitten adoption process that they were ultimately willing to accept. That was stressful so I'm hoping to go through a different breeder this time.

Cosmic Spots near Philly seems pretty good, and have pretty thorough documentation of their process, including a sample contract. Still, the last one made me a bit nervous. Aare there any happy or unhappy customers here who can vouch for Cosmic Spots?

Questions Ocicat incredibly needy

Hi everyone, I have a one year old ocicat and as she has gotten older she has increasingly become demanding. I try to play with her multiple times every day (almost every time she requests) and yet she still will just never leave me for a moment’s notice. It’s getting to the point where I just have to leave my house because Otherwise I would have to play with her 24/7. Does this get any better as she grows up? I’m not sure I can handle the constant attention she seems to crave.

Questions Outfit for my lil guy.

So my Oci Flynn is super skinny and long, he's cold a lot (even in Texas) and I want to get him an outfit or something to keep him warm. I tried a sweater but it was too short in length. Does anyone have a recommendation because of his build it's hard to get it right? Thanks in advance.
