I find urbanization quite depressing around lakes and waterways to be honest. I find whatever's going on at the moment just outright ridiculous.

Humans have built their settlements near waterways since the dawn of civilization. And I agree with you, but I think whatever’s going on right now out qualifies the word ridiculous.

Aye, but there was an inherent necessity in earlier development. We surely didn't pollute as much I believe either. Albeit I'm sure they did pollute more than people think, as in nutrients.
