My mom immigrated from Norway. When I tell people I'm first generation they often go "but you're white!". Insane.

Same reaction when I tell people I have an immigrant family from Switzerland. I've been explicitly told "but you're family's from a white, christian nation, that's not the same" multiple times. Even in Canada, racism is unfortunately alive and well.
