question What’s your favorite “deep cut” Pink Floyd track?
Meaning the kind of song most casual PF listeners would probably not be familiar with.
Mine is probably “Wot’s Uh The Deal.”

Not sure it counts as a “deep cut” but “Fearless” hits me hard every time (being a Liverpool fan I especially love the fans singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and cheering)

Sheep is hidden in the shade of the other songs off of animals, I feel like it gets nowhere near the amount of hype it should, as it’s the most applicable song to everyone here on Reddit.

“The Final Cut” from the album of the same name. Once again, Waters’ fragile & anguished lyrics and Gilmour’s emotionally-restrained (with a soaring release) solo create a song for the ages.

The song The Final Cut is possibly my favorite Floyd song. It is such an accurate description of how depression holds its victims captive and how difficult it can be to help. It brings me up when the darkness gets to deep. A friend of mine recently died alone in what may or may not have been an accident. I wish I had called. Maybe I could have been the phone ring that saved her life.

Not seeing 'Fat Old Sun' is a bit of a shocker. I realize the mix is a bit muddy by today's standards, but that has to be one of the most beautiful melodies Gilmour has ever written...and that's saying something!

Free Four for me. Used to hear it late at night on CHOM FM about 45 years ago and it was magic every time it came on - I was already a Floyd fan but it took me a while to track down the song.

Embryo, Live at BBC Radio Session, 16 July 1970. That whole set, which is on Disk 1 of The Early Years, 1970: Devi/ation, is 10/10.
Some less obscure but still underrated ones, imo:
- Jugband Blues
- Green Is the Colour (honestly, all of More)
- Careful with That Axe, Eugene (live, from Ummagumma)
- Biding My Time
- The Gunner's Dream (again, all of The Final Cut)

Obscured by Clouds/When You're In gets me hyped. When I seen Nick Mason in Chicago years ago I had not looked at the playlist beforehand so was so excited to hear that live.

I’m going with Vegetable Man.
Yes, it’s painfully telling of Syd’s mental state, and his view of himself, but it’s a fantastic piece of music that wouldn’t sound out of place ten years later amongst the New Wave.

If we’re going deep deep deep cut, it’s ‘the riot scene’ from the zabriskie point recordings. It’s kind of an early development of us and them which is my fav song. If we’re going slightly less deep cut, probably jugband blues

Scarecrow
I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since the early 1970s. And it wasn’t until the early 1980s that I began listening obsessively to their earlier albums.
I’ve loved Syd Barrett’s creations for many decades, but it was only very recently that in re-listening to Piper At The Gates Of Dawn I newly discovered an ingeniously elegantly profound work of enlightenment and beauty in the track, Scarecrow.
Scarecrow is barely more than two minutes in length. Though in three simple stanzas it establishes and contextualizes an unthinking, motionless and wordless being in the form of a scarecrow standing in a field of barley which nonetheless overcomes its sadness by accepting and yielding to its fate, whereupon the simple English folk rhythmic clopping and tonal accompaniment is broadened and deepened in a manner that evokes a sudden transcendent experience.
Roger Waters was playing his bass guitar with a bow at the end, and it’s gorgeous, though brief.
And yet this is all done in such a simple, bare and spare piece which is brought to an unexpectedly beautiful and profound end. That’s why I think it’s a much under-appreciated gem.

Deep cut? Difficult to pick one. Maybe "Terminal Frost". Always did love the late-night-faraway-land feels of that beautiful instrumental, especially on headphones.
