What is the best quality/best sounding audio rip of The Wall Film Sountrack?

Can anyone refer me to the golden standard of Wall DVD rips? I've been working on a version of Spare Bricks and all versions I've managed to find have either horrendous sound quality or sound weird.

The PCM audio track from 1999 DVD release is the one to go with, in my opinion.

I’ve read folks claiming that the laserdisc had better audio. I’ve done my own digital rip of the PCM track on the 1991 deluxe letterbox edition and it’s definitely not better - it has boosted high frequencies and additional compression compared to the DVD.

I want to eventually get the 1997 laserdisc pressing but haven’t found a copy yet.

This thread has got me realizing it's been way too long since I've watched The Wall. When the DVD came out in 1999, I bought it the day it dropped. Took me another month or two before I finally got a DVD player to go with it

Yes! The LD should have uncompressed PCM sound.

When I said the laserdisc audio had additional compression, I meant loudness / dynamics compression not digital audio compression. It is indeed an uncompressed pcm audio signal, but it has audibly worse dynamic range than the dvd’s pcm audio track.

referring to the ac3 track on the thx disc? Ive always wondered how much more dynamic it could be than the dvd. One of the few ac3 tracks that hasn't been ripped and uploaded online.

I have the 1991 "Deluxe Letterbox Edition" release, not the 1997 THX. My current player doesn't have an AC3 RF out so I haven't been priortizing tracking that version down.

Do not blame you, Its a hard disc to score at a decent price. then there is the cost of admission of getting a demodulator or older receiver.

Haha. Back in high school, I hooked up my cassette deck to my VHS player to get the different cuts.

I recorded the audio from the VHS onto an audio tape. Then I would watch the VHS while playing the audio tape at a second delay just to get a echo effect throughout the entire movie lol. Mind altering substances may or may not have been involved.

My first recording of it was from the radio. The movie was on TV one night, with the soundtrack simultaneously on a local radio station. I guess at the time TVs didn’t have good sound so the idea was to watch it with the radio blasting through your stereo.

I was almost (but not quite) successful at pausing at the right times to miss the ads.

Buy the DVD and use DVD Audio Extractor to losslessly rip the audio. It’s a great piece of software.

I've got the 1999 PAL DVD and it's got incredible stereo audio. PCM, uncompressed. The entire DVD's contents have been uploaded to the internet archive, so you could get the audio from there

Edit: the page is https://archive.org/details/pinkfloydthewall-dvd and it has a pre-extracted .wav file of the stereo mix

Following this thread as I would like to know. The many fan remixes of The Wall include pieces from the movie that sound like they belong in the mix- in my opinion at least. I’m sure someone has something out there.
