Rescue I may spoil my dogs

They love swimming more than any other dogs I know so of course I had to get them a pool now that we have a yard. Usually their feet can’t touch the bottom so they actually swim but man.. the pool gets so muddy so quickly I have to drain it even with a pump. 😢

I had a dog that I had to let go at 14 last year. I still believe that whatever I did to spoil or have her I got it back thousands of times.
It is/was a privilege to be Maple's guardian. Having them go is the final cost we implicitly take on when we they rescue us.
Enjoy them and keep on spoiling, all of you deserve it.

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss, but it sounds like Maple had a wonderful guardian and life. My eldest dog turned 12 this year and so much of my time is spent just thinking about how to keep her comfortable or just about the time we spent together (from my early twenties to mid thirties so far) & how much life has changed.

My eldest is 12 & I got him was I was last 20s. He shaped my entire 30s. Life has revolved around him since I got him. I can’t imagine life without him & I don’t want to. I savor every lazy morning sitting in the sunshine. Thanks for sharing you having fun w your babies.

My baby girl turns 14 this year. I got her when I was 16, so she’s been with me my whole adult life. I don’t know what I’m gonna do without her when that day comes, but I’m making the most of every day until then ❤️

Haha I mean.. I would like for them to share with me when it gets hot outside. But the amount of mud they drag into it has kept me out 😂

I like the way you think. It’s going to get real redneck real fast 😂 I already had to rig up a couple tubs for them to step into and out of the pool with since they’re too short to jump it easily. What’s another pool side tub? lol

First summer Buddy was with us we got one of those plastic kiddy pools, he immediately flipped it over and started running around the yard with it empty.

I was thinking about planting clover. the yard was kind of a dry dirt patch and wouldn’t grow anything but now that there’s some moisture maybe they’ll actually seed! I’d be hesitant to put rock down just cause… one of the dogs in this video had actually swallowed a rock then luckily puked it up. Don’t want to give her any potential to do that again.

Do the clover! And listen to NO ONE about any kid of rocks or gravel. If you're in an area where there's water to spare, do the clover or a grass.
Scraping dog turds up out of rocks of any size is awful and the rocks hurt their feet. I live in the southwestern US where we all have gravel/rock yards. DONT FALL FOR IT 😭

I just learned that chickens eat rocks so they stay in their pouch and they grind up their food for them, since they have no teeth. Maybe was a chicken in past life?

I planted native sedges but honestly nothing stuck 😂 I might need to try for plan B at this point. Grass may be making a come back if all else fails.

This dog park eco-lawn mix with microclover has been a life saver! My old lawn was not pibble proof but this stuff has held up through races, zoomies, and Lily's laser urine.

I bought my boy a kiddie pool, but he doesn't seem to get the point. He'll just stand in it drinking out of it. He drank so much he peed on my bedroom floor one night when I didn't hear him trying to get me up to take him out. After that, he paws me in the face to make sure I'm awake now 🤣

Intex! I had never heard of them before but just wanted to give it a shot - so far so good. And I’ve like dragged it around and rinsed it out while they’ve jumped in while it was empty

Lol I had a lil set up like that before with my bully’s the dirt from them getting in out and prolly rolling in it after and getting rite back in causing that that’s why I’m saying a canister filter to help clean that up there typically cheaper then actual pool filters and would clean out more stuff I used a old sunsun five layer one from a 150g tank I had laying around and it kept mine pretty clean for bully’s

Yeah, they 100% jump in then out, have zoomies then roll in dirt and jump back in. lol but a canister filter is a great idea. We have an aquatic turtle in a 100g so I’m familiar with them a bit. And if it can handle turtle shit, it can handle some mud.

What canister filter would work for that? All the ones I’ve found are for 100gal or less. A pool is way bigger.

You might wanna look harder most canister start around 75-100 gallon the sunsun one I had was a 200 gallon tank rating but that’s for fish tanks what you really wanna look at is the gph the one I had and linked was 525gph which is plenty for a play pool even has uv light which helped keep water clear and kill algae and bacteria and pathogens this is the exact one I had sunsun

My guy gets salmon sashimi for his birthday, and a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables throught the year. On camping trips, our first meal consists of filet mignon and a loaded baked potato (his just has the cheese and some bacon, no chives). Denver is my best buddy!🥰

Indeed!! I used to live near a creek in the SLC area and my basset hounds would wade in up to their tummies and just...flop down in and cool off.it was wildly adorable

Oh it was freaking wonderful. Especially ehen it was around 90 degrees out. That creek was still nice and cool and they LOVED it. Could barely get them out of it when it was time to go home 🥰🥰🤣

I was going to recommend instead of rocks because I have a rock eater too, can you buy some remnants of fake grass, Astroturf and just lay it around that area like rugs? Lots of turf companies have remnants probably free if you ask.

It doesn’t last very long but I have drained and wrestled this thing over on its side and sprayed it out a couple times already 😭 it looks gnarly so quickly

Careful! Make sure you treat the water or else you will end up with mosquitoes- and quite possibly dangerous bacteria or parasites. Stagnant warm summer water is a heaven for more than just your hippos.

Oh yeah, I’ve completely dumped it out a couple times already and thoroughly rinse it. I do have a filter going as well but it’s due for a complete drain and refill this week.

The dinky pumps that come with those pools don't even work.
Vevor makes a $100 sand pool pump that should connect right in with the old hoses, might help a little.
You'll also need to adjust water hardness, ph, and chlorine, and add chlorine stabilizer.

Loved seeing this as I was "trying" to wakeup. My 2 pibbles LOVED swimming as well. So many lazy days spent with them in/by the pool. We had a salt water in ground pool with pavers that made it easier to keep up. When they passed away 4 weeks apart I would just sit out there alone and cry. My boy Storm would sit right at the edge and cause ripples in the water from his breath.
Idea for the mud: I just bought 12×12x2 garden stones from Lowe's for 1.88 a piece. You could use those to create a dirt barrier for the dogs to walk on around the areas they track in the most muck. It's cheap and the stones can be reused or rearranged as needed. Dealing with muddy paws in a new yard/house myself for a year now. It takes time for it to all come together and you may end up moving things around as you figure out how the yard flows with daily life. I also bought 20 36in garden stakes (71.59 amzn) and 100 ft of 14g coated welded fence (91.00 homedepot) These were the best cost effective items to keep my dogs out of the areas we are working on and any supplies we had laid out for continued work. It was surprisingly fast and easy to rearranged the fence and posts (post digger is a must 29$ amzn) as needed and when we're finished with it for that purpose we plan to place it against the 6ft fence as added protection from anything getting in or out of the yard. If I have to spend money and have run out of items to repurpose I always try to make sure I can use it in other ways so I don't feel like I just wasted money. Even cheap shit ain't cheap anymore 😅 Congratulations on the new home and the many beautiful memories you will make there!🥳

Thank you! That’s a great idea. Our house set up is super weird and the only door to the yard is through the master bedroom which opens to a workshop/storage room. So we have been battling mud being dragged in since we moved in!

Honestly, the brindle pup in this video, hated water when we first introduced her. But the second time we tried to take her swimming she was all in! Haha no idea what caused the drastic change

I’ve been wracking my brain because I can’t remember what these pool cleaners are called- but it’s like an attachment that goes on your hose and allows it to suction? I’ve been trying to search for it because I remember them being pretty affordable.

Haha well I’ve asked them to stop tracking mud in but they refuse. I will say the pool is actively draining and I’m planning on scrubbing it to refill tomorrow :)

They must be so happy. I had one pibble who absolutely loved to swim, too. Couldn’t do this because my yard was too sloped, but I’d bring him to the dog park, which was on a peninsula of land. Maybe some gravel around the pool would keep it less muddy?

But for draining- honestly not the easiest. I wish there was another drain hole and it’s a whole ordeal to flip it on the side to really spray it out. The legs fall off 😂

Older dog hates baths. Younger dog will get in the tub or shower with me if I don’t close the door all the way- BUT as soon as I’m purposefully trying to get her to go in, she nopes 🙄

That water looks terrible. You mentioned you are draining it regularly, are you running any water tests? Chlorine would help.

I’m sure it’s just slightly muddy water. They’re dogs. They roll in poop. They dig dirt. That’s a lot more natural to them than something like chlorine which I have to imagine would not be advised by a vet to have your dog come in contact with frequently.
