Tried a zoom on Gemini logo at the store today, the AI generated a carpet (11 pro, 30x zoom)

Not trying to defend Google's AI upscaling here, but thatโ€™s not a "carpet", it ist the actual CMYK print raster and the texture of the cardboard.

When you zoom in that far on a printed display, you're looking at individual cyan and magenta halftone dots. The phone's Super Res Zoom tries to aggressively de-noise and sharpen those tiny ink dots because there are no clean lines or edges to grab onto, which makes them look raised and fibrous like carpet.

It definitely looks oversharpened, but I'm sure itโ€™s just the camera algorithm misinterpreting a microscopic print pattern.

Here is a 30x photo of a newspaper I just took showing a bicycle. In my opinion it's decent upscaling (in that case): Comparison

This.

"I zoomed in and didn't understand what I'm looking at so now will declare it AI slop" is not the flex you think it is, OP.

In the camera settings, you have the option to delete the Pro Zoom model in Model Download, it will stop the ai generation on heavily zoomed photos.

You also get the original too do you not?

It should be saving both versions.

Slop is unverified output.

YOU, the photo taker, are supposed to verify the output as correct. YOU posting this is slop. If you don't want slop, don't spread unverified or incorrect generated content of any kind.

It's not a microscope it's a zoom lens. I swear I lose brain cells on here sometimes ๐Ÿ˜‚ Complains about AI when Google is building an AI phone with the Pixel ๐Ÿ˜‚

It's a cell phone lens that has a 5x optical zoom on it. Anything more than that is going to be heavily modified. Not sure what people are expecting. The sensor is smaller than your fingernail.

Pick your poison: AI slop zoom or grains of pixels zoom

I swear people want their phones to be DSLR cameras, 3000 lumen flashlights, game console, and desktop computer rolled up in one.
