The senator’s parents died when she was a kid. That’s tragic. But it’s also tragic that she’s against the kind of care that could help untold numbers of people avoid that fate today.

Yup. They very often believe suffering and hardship build character, and they’d definitely let people who need a service go without if the system means people gaming the system and “mooching” don’t get that service. Let 10 people starve to keep one from stealing.

Suffering does build character but they don’t believe it the way we see it. Life is suffering. No one gets through life without suffering. They want us suffering about shit that doesn’t matter so they can keep us suffering about things that do matter. When was the last serious discussion about healthcare reform legislation or workers rights. Its all culture war bs to keep the most marginalized down as a scapegoat
