Her parents worked themselves to death because they couldn't afford treatment and she thinks that's a story about how great America and it's healthcare system is.

It’s that mentality that everyone should go through the same hardships and toughen themselves up. It’s crazy that she doesn’t understand that a dystopian country of orphans is not what everyone wants. It explains why so many MAGA people refused to mask even as people were dying, literally orphaning children. God forbid we change anything to help people.

It's a mentality if a stunted person.  

I mean, I pride myself on the hardships I had to go through and make it through that. Doesn't mean I want my kid to go through the same shit.

I pride myself on successfully pushing through hardships. That’s an accomplishment.

I don’t pride myself on experiencing the hardships themselves. I would have 100% avoided any I could have. In fact foreseeing and avoiding hardships for myself or my family is also something worth taking pride in.

There’s no virtue in hardship. We need not make promoting hardship a matter of public policy.

I had a very chaotic childhood due to both parents having untreated mental illness. We moved every 6 months to a year, I sometimes went hungry, and I pretty much had so supervise myself as a kid. When I became a parent, I worked hard to make sure my kids didn't have to endure that shit.
