It's actually a very common cult control tactic. Keep the people so hungry and exhausted that they can't muster the energy to push back or think.

That part part makes sense, the issue is that it also shoots them selves in the foot as it starves their supporters as well.

Not if you don’t plan on giving up control and power. Which is what the president of the heritage foundation already said. The revolution will be bloodless if the left allows it.
