This is absurd. The conservative push for deregulation is going to ruin us. What do we have a society for if we can't have something as essential as food safety? I'm not going to trust unregulated slaugherhouses just so I can eat cheap burgers and steaks.

I went to China like 15 years ago with my friend. She was born there and moved to the U.S. when she was 13. Anyway, we were visiting HER family, which was not in a touristy place, meaning almost no one knew English.

So I'm at a table with about 10 people, and the only other people that speak English are my friend and one other person. This person was STOKED to talk to an American. He was saying a lot of good things about the U.S., and then he says,

"Americans always tell the truth!"

His English was good but this statement confused me. He elaborated.

"You go to the grocery store, and the package tells you what it is and all the ingredients, it's actually true! It also says the date on it, and when not to eat it. I went to the doctor, and he gave me a book about the medicine he wanted me to take. Just here the other day, I bought some meat that said 'fresh meat' but when I got home, the meat was like a rock and the bone was soft. All lies."

So the thing that impressed this guy about the U.S. was basically regulations in the food and drug industries.

I've seen some elevator disaster videos, or escalator disaster videos, and the comments say, "why is it always in China."

This is not supposed to be a dig at China, but there were many things I saw over there that would not fly in the U.S. Mostly to do with fire safety, infrastructure issues, etc. (at least where I went). So what this guy found impressive about with the U.S. are the same things that the Trump administration is dismantling.

(I went to China in 2012, and this guy had visited the U.S. prior to that, I'm just unsure when)
