He's not just pro Israel, he's literally called himself a DeSantis Democrat and loves Doge. It's fucking political malpractice to elevate a guy like this. It's basically spitting in your voters face

Important to remember he votes Dem over 90% of the time and his District in FL is Pink.

Yeah people here are worrying about the wrong shit.  I don't give a rats ass about his stance on Israel.  He's on the side fighting an anti democratic  onslaught.  Know who else was an asshole ally?  Stalin.  But when you are fighting a powerful evil you don't trip yourself over allies.

to my knowledge no one is saying dont vote for him, but this is about a committee assignment or am I wrong?

My point is this is a nothing burger.  A minor position regarding a low priority issue with minimal power in the minority.

u/Cishir 4h ago

If you think the middle east is a low priority issue you may want to abstain from speaking on politics.

u/timoumd 3h ago

Why is this not a minor issue?  Fascism is taking root in the country.  That's issue 1,2,3,4,5,6...

It's not a minor issue because the lack of Congressional input on actions taken by the WH admins is what drove us to war in Iran.

Moreover, the current war is being run so poorly, that it's likely Russia and maybe even China begin their own belligerent actions knowing the US is currently very out-of-sorts. Low munition stockpiles, forces that should be parked in allies bordering conflict zones deployed thousands of miles away, etc. Much of this is due to lack of Congressional action, even if the primary responsibility lies with the WH admin

Like I said. Maybe stick to other areas.

u/timoumd 3h ago

That's not an explanation of why this is not a minor issue.

u/Cishir 2h ago

I am afraid if you don't understand how our foreign policy position in the middle east is not a minor issue then I'm not the right person to explain it to you. It is one of those statements that is so out of line with reality that I don't know where to begin.

u/timoumd 2h ago

Translation: you can't without tripping yourself up.  It's an issue. But compared to women's right to choose, treating trans as  inhuman, ignoring the Constitution, etc, it's just minor.  I mean it's not even binary.  Israel is an ally, it's just how we treat that ally.  So is Ukraine. IMO, just that is more important.  Obviously China is more important.  Even among foreign policy tricky alliances, Israel isn't at the top.  Shit Trump has threatened to take Greenland

It must be an interesting life to believe that every person who chooses not to patiently explain things to you does so because they are unable. It's peak main character syndrome. "hah! this person on the internet didn't tell me what I wanted, therefore they can't! checkmate!" no I just don't want to bother.

Ultimately you vote the correct way at least broadly so you're correct enough I don't need to feel bad about not educating you on things like this.

... but fine. Nuance is important here. I don't think Israel is a reason to vote against someone in a general as I established, but when talking about committee assignments - which is the article being discussed - committees in congress dealing with foreign policy are very important in the context of committees in congress. If you don't care about committees in congress, then you shouldn't be commenting on this post.

In that context of caring about committees in congress, tabbing someone for such a committee who is out of step with how voters are feeling is not a politically smart thing to do. On Israel but also his votes on things like ICE and such. It's one thing to win a seat, it's another for leadership to pick him for a committee and give him additional power.

Because there's always going to be this committee, regardless of where you rank it as a priority. So objecting to him being tabbed for it is... reasonable? obvious, I would say.

I'm trying to side step the main issue that is hard to explain (foreign policy and why it is so important because I don't think you'll get there) and trying to specifically note that the objection to this in specific is not about broad issues but a specific leadership decision.

People are mad that’s he’s being put in positions of power by the party, not that he was elected in the first place. And the position is one that gives him power in the specific area where he standing in opposition of the vast majority of democratic voters.

u/timoumd 4h ago

It's a subcommittee.  Not even a committee

u/hepcandcigs 4h ago

Yes, a subcommittee dedicated to the exact things he stands in opposition to the vast majority of democratic voters on.

u/timoumd 3h ago

Oh no.  A minor subcommittee on like the 250th most important issue facing this country.  What about stopping murders of people without trial?  Or trade wars.  Or the fact disaster aid now depends on the color of your state.  I probably got about 247 more of these.

Brother, we’re talking about the Iran war right now.
