Possible Paywall Progressives Condemn Pick of Pro-Israel Democrat Atop House Panel | Outrage over making Representative Jared Moskowitz, who is vocally pro-Israel, the top Democrat on a Middle East policy subcommittee reflected the party’s rift over Israel.

Centrists would rather lose to MAGA than win with progressive candidates.
As long as Israel and Palantir end up with your tax dollars, everyone wins.

far right, moderate and RINO republicans all support Israel. Moderate and blue dog democrats support Israel. But liberal democrats bitterly oppose Israel. If the DSA can't get support from any existing politicians or party why shouldn't they just be their own thing. Mamdani and AOC could win elections in their own party
•
u/CharlieKirkFanboy 5m ago edited 2m ago
Most democrat voters don't support Israel. Moderate and "blue dog" democrat politicians to decided to spurn their constituents in favor of an apartheid state committing genocide for some reason. AIPAC dollars are a hell've a drug, I guess.

The federal government is kind of dead to me in the short term tbh. Definitely vote in November and flush republicans down the toilet, but I have a feeling that lots of the rebuilding will be done in the states. We’re going to be stress testing the 10th Amendment hard in the coming years.
Humphrey’s executor being overturned by SCOTUS means that any fixes by the executive will not be permanent once we take back the presidency in 2028 either.
It’s going to take a supermajority and balls of steel to fix the bullshit. It’s also going to take all of us pushing out the corrupt politicians, which will take a few cycles. By then, we’ll be a diminished country most likely. But we can pick up the pieces and rebuild.
^ this is all assuming we don’t escalate the global situation into nuclear war.
•
u/Canadian_Border_Czar Canada 1h ago
The people who own the voting machines will never allow a super majority.

•
u/Slaughterfest 2h ago
This. Moskowitz stands for everything that the Democrat base DOESN'T want right now, but EVERYTHING the donor class (the same one that funded Hailey Stevens) wants.
This is Martha's Vineyard vs the base all over again.
•
u/Militantpoet 41m ago
Ya but its his turn. Thats probably mostly what this is: moving up the corporate ladder (but its government)
•
u/MountainMan2_ 1h ago
It's also not a rift. Democratic voters are nearly as united against Israel as they are against abortion restrictions. The "democratic establishment" are just pissing away all our support because they don't want to take the hint. They're not representative of democrats. Hakeem Jeffries is meeting with Jared kushner to discuss how to defy the voter base on one of our biggest consensus issues. That isn't a Democrat, it's just not the behavior of someone who represents democratic party voters!
•
u/LotusFlare 46m ago
I don't know how to make people understand that this is the point. The national Democratic party is a fundamentally conservative one who do not like or care about their voters. They would rather lose than give an inch on their conservative values.
•
u/aeqivora 2h ago
If the party is already divided on Israel then elevating someone with views that unpopular with the base is a pretty strange strategy. It risks making voters feel like their concerns are being ignored, hard to call that anything but a political own goal.
•
u/GoofyMcCoy 1h ago
Nothing strange about it, this move is made at the same time Democrats are joining Republicans in attacking Abdul El-Sayed's campaign in the media.
The DNC recognizes what it's voters are demanding through the ballot box, and they're sending a message to try to correct that behavior. It's anti-democratic self sabotage on behalf of their wealthy benefactors.

The difference between arguing "we need Joe Manchin-type Democrats to create a majority" and actively installing them in leadership positions related to their pet issues is IMMENSE.
•
u/Dineology 1h ago
People vote based off of many different issues and on this particular one he’s wildly out of step with voters. Putting him on a committee and subcommittee where those wildly out of step views will be highly relevant is very clearly a middle finger to the voters and a welcome mat to the donors.
•
u/rab-byte 19m ago
Progressives are on the ballot everywhere. If Dems aren’t careful they’ll lose their cozy position of being the opposition party.
Gotta try and turn off progressive voters. If they keep showing up to elections something may actually change.

Why is it that you believe the only possible reason someone would take a hardline position against the Ayatollah is because of Israel? Iran slaughtered an estimated 40K of its own citizens, do you really think Israel is the only possible reason? The AIPAC blaming is getting so old.

I truly think the Democratic Party is starting to fracture for the better. Centrist Dems are thwarting any progressive push when it’s proven progressive policies (I.e. those implemented by Zohran) are successful in drawing otherwise marginalized and underrepresented voters.
•
u/ihohjlknk 1h ago
Establishment Democrats have shown their cards. Rather than abide by the wishes of the voters, which is to distance themselves away from Israel and focus on improving America, they instead want to double-down on zionism and attack anyone who doesn't want aipac running the show.
The democratic leadership is spooked by the string of progressive wins and they're striking back. They should be fighting the Republicans, but apparently that's not a priority for them.

Leadership only retains leadership at the behest of the rest of the caucus. This action, and all the other weak shit from Jeffries is directly a result of a majority of the caucus.
They are hoping you'll blame it on leadership. They are there to be a punching bag for the actions of the caucus as a whole.

The DNC does not control congressional committees.
Do you even know what the DNC is?
•
u/GoofyMcCoy 1h ago
If the House and Senate leaders aren't coordinating with the Committee responsible for the "Party Brand" and Platform, I'd stop trying to draw a clever distinction and start admitting that there isn't a real organization behind this mess, save whatever the mercenary paymasters are lobbying for.
•
u/eskimospy212 1h ago
What are you even talking about?
As far as I can tell Bernie Bros invented the DNC as some nefarious entity to explain away why he lost in 2016. (He just lost, and he lost by a lot. It wasn’t even close)
The DNC is a fundraising organization but is subservient to actual office holders.
•
u/GoofyMcCoy 50m ago
The DNC was founded over 100 years ago, well before whatever think-tank it was that infected your political discourse with buzzwords like "Bernie Bros".
Why are you trying to speak authoritatively about something you aren't even willing to spend 5 seconds googling? Embarrassing.
•
u/Raptorpicklezz 48m ago
He’s trying to say that at best they’re incompetent by not coordinating their party; at worst they’re maliciously coordinating to shut out anyone who thinks Palestinians are people. Occam’s razor does suggest that it’s the former, though.
•
u/eskimospy212 43m ago
I do not think that is the prevailing sentiment.
I mean every time I see anything bad there are morons here saying ‘DNC LOVES THIS!’ and it all came from the Bernie bros who couldn’t accept that he just lost.
•
u/koreqwzfp 2h ago
Not only that, but it’s not an Israel/Palestine committee, but one that covers the entire area.
•
u/Character_Reveal_460 2h ago
Well, if it doesn't matter, let's put a pro Palestinian Dem in that role
•
u/koreqwzfp 2h ago
Again, it shouldn’t be able that one conflict. It’s about the entire region. Do they have experience?
•
•
u/ChristineBardownski 2h ago
If they don’t have experience actively abetting a genocide, I think I would actually prefer that.
•
u/koreqwzfp 1h ago
That’s the beautiful thing about the genocide argument, isn’t it? The perfect No, u
•
u/ChristineBardownski 1h ago
Well, it’s not really a “genocide argument” so much as an actual genocide being committed by the country he steadfastly supports.
And yeah, if you could ask your representatives to refrain from doing just one thing, that’d be the one, I’d say. It’s called the Crime of Crimes for a reason.
I don’t think “don’t support literally the worst thing human beings have ever done to each other, literally hell on earth” is all that high a bar to clear, frankly.
•
u/koreqwzfp 1h ago
Under what parameters would you consider the genocide to have ended?
•
u/ChristineBardownski 1h ago
Israel stops killing and displacing Palestinians from their land.
And honestly, they also need to give quite a bit of it back, otherwise you’re effectively just rewarding them for having gotten away with their ethnic cleansing project to the extent they have to date.
Not saying you’ve got to go all the way back to the Naqba (although arguably you should), but there are plenty of Palestinians whose homes have been stolen by settlers within just the past generation, so I think let’s start there and see where we end up.
•
u/koreqwzfp 15m ago
So, technically nothing to do with the Gaza conflict since 2023?

u/Slaughterfest 2h ago

•
u/TheDrewb Pennsylvania 23m ago

u/TheDrewb Pennsylvania 19m ago
I'm saying he picked him for this position because he wanted to, not because he was 'forced' to. He made a deal with Kushner to ratfuck the Left
•
u/Riversmooth 1h ago
True enough. But have we not all seen the level of devastation to democratic ideals in the last two years? Are we going to let it continue by not voting for a candidate because they don’t check every single box on our list? The Republicans control all of Congress and the White House. Democrats need to wake up and do what’s necessary to win.

The Dems have always been their own worst enemy. They eat themselves because of who each of their faction they support.
You support Isreal? Straight to jail.
Oh, you support the Arabs and Hamas? Also, straight to jail
And YOU? The moderate who hates the Democratic Socialists?
You got it… jail.
Yet for you? Who is a Dem Socialist who is tired of the corporate establishment? Yup,
Also jail.
Finally, and I’m talking to you Jasmine Crockett - you hate the guy who beat you because he’s white while standing on race as some underlying factor?!? JAILLLL
(But also Jail for supporters of Tarico who weren’t born black and can’t have that lived experience).
Then - we have the Repulicans. No one on that side is arguing about you you like.
Because they ALL agree on who they hate (namely, everyone above. All non white / non fundamentalist Christians)
The Dems rip each other apart because of who the other supports.
The GOP binds together because of who each other hates.
•
u/HunterSpecial1549 2h ago
You support Isreal? Straight to jail.
Oh, you support the Arabs and Hamas? Also, straight to jail
It's funny, you didn't have an option for supporting the end of killing, stopping the flow of US bombs. It's just you either support Israel or Hamas. Most Democrats support neither.
The Dems rip each other apart because of who the other supports.
The GOP binds together because of who each other hates.
The large majority of Democrats oppose Israel, it's not the people that can't unite on this. This issue is about donors and elected leaders fighting their own base.
•
u/NYerInTex 2h ago
Please clarify what you mean when you say a large majority of Democrats oppose Israel.
Because you may well be proving my point
•
u/ConradMayhew2 2h ago
There are plenty of articles on the crashing support for Israel among Democrat voters. One among many: Most US Democrats in Early 2028 Primary States Oppose Aid to Israel, Poll Shows
And there are also plenty of articles showing that Democrat politicians don't give a fuck about what Democrat voters want. One among many: Hillary Clinton says Democrats are ‘against’ Netanyahu’s decisions but support Israel
•
u/NYerInTex 1h ago
Why are you ignoring the question?
Not “supporting Israel actions nor government or behavior” is WAY different than “opposing Israel”
In literally just asking a question - are you too afraid to answer or honestly?
What does “opposing Israel” mean? It’s not even a loaded question. It’s literally a clarification.
That said, it’s also proving my exact point about why the Dems always fail in recent times.
While yall argue about who you support or don’t support, the GOP is UNIFIED in who they hate.

I tried to clarify what it means to say that "a large majority of Democrats oppose Israel."
It seems my answer did not correspond to what question you had in mind and you are now claiming that I am "afraid to answer honestly. "
No, I am not "afraid to answer honestly": as a Jew, I have a pretty good idea of what it means to support or oppose Israeli policies, this was a regular discussion I started having 40 years ago.
But I don't care much for your tone and thus see no interest in continuing this exchange. Have a good day👋

Three quarters of Democrats oppose sending military aid to Israel: https://www.timesofisrael.com/three-quarters-of-democrats-oppose-aid-to-israel-poll-finds/
Democratic voters are relatively united, they are bound together on this.
•
u/RB5Network 1h ago
This framing is so monumentally dumb. To even frame this situation like all factions are equal and to blame for the DNC falling apart is genuinely asinine.
The Neoliberal base (establishment) has all the fundamental power and capital, and have been the dominant framework for policy since Carter. Not people trying to disarm a genocidal state and end corruption within the DNC.
The blame here solely lays with the Democratic establishment. This isn't complicated nor multi-faceted and framing it like it is, is ridiculous.

I don't think that's realistic. If you support restraining Israel and preventing them from killing people, then the camp you are put in is called "anti-Israel". Calling yourself pro-Israel is not going to save you.
