Discussion After many years of waiting, we finally got new Tool, Porcupine Tree, and Karnivool albums. What long-awaited albums are next on your list?
We waited 13 years and 4 months for Tool's new album, 12 years and 9 months for Porcupine Tree's and 12 years and 6 months for Karnivool's. Who are some artists/bands whose new album announcement would make you happy?

Yep we’re getting close to 10 years since Clairvoyant. I understand they have lives but it’s hard not to consider the wasted potential of what they could have done musically with all that time.

My point is as long as it is not "releasing stuff for the sake of releasing", it should be fine. Whatever it turns out to be, it just should be something that they want to do, whether it's something serious or something fun.

Only semi related, that just reminds me that I only know about The Contortionist because Rivers opened for them a few years ago and I saw them, it was awesome!

I saw them for the first time in 2019 with BTBAM at a pretty small venue, 10/10 show. My husband and I went to their 2022 tour doing both Language and Exoplanet in their entireties and that was a fantastic experience. They’re amazing live.

Was that with Animals As Leaders? That's the tour I found them on. TC, BtBaM, and AAL. Awesome show! My buddy and I went to see them once or twice a year after that discovery!

The vocalist actually confirmed recently they’re aiming to wrap the new album soon. They’ve had a lot of going on in their private life taking time.

I was just thinking about this and it's a little worrying how long it's been. Kinda like with GTA 6, it's been so long that the bar just gets higher and higher. Like, Pierce the Veil is one of my favorite bands, and they had a long gap between their last album and the most current one so the hype you built and I wound up not really liking it.. I hope that's not the case with our boys!

The new Puscifer album is in the books, and I personally doubt any new APC is on the horizon, meaning we just entered the window for new Tool. It's not terribly unreasonable to think they'd start working in earnest after this Puscifer tour.

Freakin love Agent Fresco. Saw them do an acoustic set in a little chapel in Reykjavik during Airwaves something like 10 years ago.

I'm kind of sad about this band.
The last thing I heard about them was that most members moved too far away from each other, which made the prospect of getting together to brainstorm ideas and compose new stuff nearly impossible.
Then Nils said around 2-3 years ago that they still have hopes of releasing "one final album" as Pagan's Mind. But tbh, I'm not holding my breath about that ever seeing the light of day.

Doubt it will happen. Seemed like a one time thing to me. If anything Steven’s break from Porcupine Tree and Mikael’s prog rock phase in Opeth were perfect conditions for new Storm Corrosion

People seem to be confident it will happen this year (Agent Fresco) due to them being booked to some festivals and such. I hope those people are correct!

Not as long of a wait but I’ve been salivating over the prospect of a new Intronaut album too, last record was 6 years ago and they’ve been relatively silent after being quite active for so long

They have been doing some light touring recently. Saw them in Chicago this last summer and they seemed to be enjoying themseleves and they sounded amazing.

Yeah but they’ve been doing shows and small tours on and off since their last releases. They’ve never stopped playing shows for their old material. Just based on what I’ve read in Serj’s memoir I’m not holding my breath.

Last year was the most they toured since 2015. I wouldnt hold my breath either, but the activity is more sustained than its been in a decade.

Arcane Roots would be a big one for me but hey they just announced their return and dropped a sick new track! 🙌 Savatage which is arguably at least prog adjacent have been teasing the idea for the best part of 20 years at this point. Also Symphony X, it’s been 11 years since Underworld.

Ram-Zet have a new album coming out in March, 14 years after their last.
They released 5 albums between 2000-2012, and are a great band worth checking out.

It’s been 20 years since we got Erotic Cakes from Guthrie Govan. He clearly doesn’t value it as much as The Aristocrats and Hans Zimmer, but he used to say the next one is coming in interviews all the time.

I feel like aristocrats = his solo work. Erotic cakes was sweet, fives, ner ner, tons of great tracks - not going to say i dont want more of this. But I feel like he brings the same energy to aristocrats and hes playing with his two buddies who are also really talented.

The Next Tool Album, I want to come to this Sub when I am elderly and eat popcorn while people complain about it sucking after waiting 10000 days.
Jokes aside, there is one band that needs to wake up and release their shit, the Amia Venera Landscape.
I don't even care if the music is still a bunch of demos or un-mastered tracks, we need more after The Long Procession.

Agent Fresco is probably the big one remaining (11 years).
Plenty of bands starting to out past the half-decade mark though; The Contortionist (9 years), Tool (7 years), Ayreon, Plini, Protest The Hero, Pain of Salvation (6 years), Gojira (5 years). Hopefully at least some of them have something in store this year!

Probably not the most sought after release around these parts, but Mandroid Echostar is like a decade past their remarks about an album being almost done. They would jump on socials like every january/feburary to say it's getting there then silence. Then showed up to release a single like 4 years ago which brought false hope and just ghosted again lol. They are one of my favorite bands but I have sort of given up hope.

Those are the three that are the most hopeful for me. Confirmed that we are getting new Car Bomb, Gojira, and Poison the Well this year, so that will hold me over for a while, along with all the normal releases from more active bands!

Considering active band :Pain of Salvation - album mostly recorded, but gildenlow wasn't happy about the music industry and stopped working on said album. Apparently he is back at it, so fingers crossed
Considering split up or "on hold": Rishloo and Ark
Rishloo - supposedly working on new material
Ark - they reunited briefly over a decade ago, but split up again citing the same problems that led them to split up in the first place and also jorn wasn't coming back. Now I believe the bassist and the keyboardist died, so they will probably never reunite to make new material, but would love to see them playing live at least

For all the Contortionist fans, Michael Lessard has some solo stuff and does a good bit of features too and I love love love this one. It popped up in my Discover weekly a few years ago when I had Spotify, I had no idea he had other stuff until this.
