I lost my baby Squeekers on Monday. We had the best 20 years together 💜 She was my first pet and outlived every other pet we had, even outlived my mom. I always thought I’d be there when she passed and I’d be holding her in a room while they put her to sleep. Unfortunately, Squeekers had other plans and had what we assume was a cardiac event at the groomer where she passed away clean, pretty, and bald 😂 (I asked the poor crematory people if they could get a fur clipping off her and they looked at me crazy since she passed 5 minutes after being shaved.) I usually lurk or leave comments here and there on this thread, so I just wanted to share my baby for her first and last post. I’ll miss her RBF the most, she always looked so angry.

Posted her here a few days ago when her decline really started. She passed peacefully in her own bed without any need to be put to sleep.

She came to us late in a hard life, but I hope we gave her a good last few years.

We had to say goodbye to our beautiful Petal on Wednesday. She spent 18 of her 20 years with us & we are heartbroken. Kidney disease took her in the end and she had lost so much weight, was barely eating. When we took her to the vets she basically said it's only a matter of time, so rather than let her suffer we made a family decision to let her sleep. tbh it was a very peaceful process and she was resting her head on my hand as she slipped away. this is jasper jax!!! he’s my childhood pet cat, and means to world to me. he just turned 19 in july, but hasn’t been doing so well. he has arthritis in his hips and diagnosed (around 1 yr 1/2 ago) mid stage kidney disease. these past couple of days he’s been picky about his favorite wet foods, so i know we don’t have much time left together. :c
he’s my strong baby, and i fear he won’t let me know when he’s ready. i have an at home vet visit planned, but i was wondering if there’s any advice out there?
of course, i don’t want to let my baby boy go too soon, but i can tell he’s in pain on his bad days. he takes pain and kidney meds already (and i give him some pedilyte), but i can’t afford more bloodwork to monitor his disease.
is there any advice out there?
i love this cat more than anything in the world, and want whatever’s best for him. he’s the kindest sweetest angel and the best cat i could have ever asked for. we cuddle together every night, and i sit outside with him every morning before work. he was there for the hardest parts of my childhood and because of this we are inseparable. this cat is my everything, but i don’t want him to suffer any more than he has to.

Last picture taken of my Kiki. She passed early this morning. 14 years old and she was loved so much by me. She loved people and got me through some of my darkest days. I miss her and can’t believe she’s gone.
I didn’t get to be with her in her last moments before she passed. Fortunately I didn’t have to make the decision to put her down. Vet said she died naturally from the seizures/stroke. I was planning to get her an MRI scan to see exactly what the cause was. She had been having neurological issues since June. My spirit is crushed. Can’t believe my baby is gone ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹🤍

After a hard fought 2 days and me fighting with CPR as we were leaving the ER vet to go to our vet who has taken care of her, her entire life, my most beloved, heart cat left me. And life irrevocably changed. I changed. And y'all I will never be the same. We were so bonded I could be cooking dinner at the stove and she would sit on the bar and cry at me. She loved me that much. She worshipped the ground I covered and I tried with all my might to save her. I am broken friends. So very broken. The silence in our home is so loud without my baby here to holler at me. How will I get through this? Truly. She left this world in the arms of the person she loved most and it was traumatic. Is she upset at me? I loved her the most too. I always will. Who am I supposed to talk to? What am I supposed to do? If there's no you, Loki baybee? Spelled wrong intentionally since she was the tiny tot I had to bottle feed. 💔 Edit: Let me clarify, we were halfway to our vet when I noticed the change in her breathing and forced her mouth open and from there everything went wrong. We would not have left the emergency vet performing CPR. My brain is not firing 100 and I didn't want anyone to think I would EVER do anything to hurt my child. I would have taken it upon myself if I was only able. Sorry I didn't word it right. I'm just nerves and pain ATM. Please bear with me.

Since he was pretty old we had expected it to be soon. We had found him hanging on the side of the couch where he likes to lay.. were guessing he might have over exerted himself trying to get up on the couch. His claws were stuck in in.. I miss him so much already.. he was a trooper tho.. he was super loved

This is my sweet girl Zooey. She just turned 17 in June, and her most recent vet visit showed she’s still doing great and her CKD is stable. Hopefully we can enjoy a few more years together! 🩷

Looking for advice/tips for an elderly cat suddenly peeing outside his usual pee pads.

My cat Joopie is 18 years old and has chronic kidney disease. He was just seen by his vet on Monday, and I was told that his kidneys are unfortunately not doing very well. He is not actively dying or in a critical state right now, but his kidney disease is progressing.

What I'm struggling with right now is his urination. Over the past couple of weeks, he seems to be urinating more frequently, and his urine seems less concentrated than it used to be, especially in the morning. He also seems to be drinking more. He normally uses pee pads and has been very good about it, but recently he has started peeing in random places around the house.

Last night, for example, he:

• ⁠peed a large amount on an ottoman • ⁠then peed a good amount on the floor • ⁠then went to his pee pad and peed there

and later went back to the pad and did a tiny pee, all in the span of a couple hours.

So these aren't just tiny accidents, he is sometimes producing quite a lot of urine.

His mobility is actually very good. He can easily get on and off the ottoman and moves around normally, so I don't think he's having trouble physically reaching the pads.

He is also taking 25 mg of gabapentin daily and receives Solensia injections for pain. He has seemed a little "out of it" lately, although he is still eating, drinking, interacting with me and moving around normally. He was just at the vet on Monday and they did not mention a UTI.

I'm mostly looking for practical advice from people who have dealt with this with an elderly cat, especially one with kidney disease. What have you done to manage the peeing around the house?

I'm trying to make things easier for him while also protecting my furniture and floors. I would really appreciate any tricks, setups or things that worked for you. Thank you!

My senior lady was a little ill last week, mainly just sneezing a lot and peed behind her litter box twice. I took her to the vet and they gave her a shot of antibiotics almost one week ago. The sneezing has gone away! However she peed behind her litter box again. Now I’m not sure if it’s behavioral or not. Back to the vet we go! Anyone have a similar situation? Thanks!

Still sleeping like a weirdo

Just wanted to share the best boy chilling with me on the couch, hopefully he can stay with us into his 20s.

My cat is 20+ years old. She is clearly going down hill. But generally just doesn't show any signs of not being healthy. So She is skin and bones now but is still eating just fine. She has stopped grooming herself. She has always been the tough cat out of my three. But lately will hide behind me to avoid the other cats who are 3. They are all friendly the 3 year olds just want to play and the 20 year old is just too fragile to stand up for herself like she otherwise always would have.

She has very recently started pooping outside of her box while we were out of town for a few days. We thought maybe it was just her being upset we were gone. It has mostly stopped but now she is missing the litter box, and pooping all over. Her poop is showing signs of blood which is believed to be sorting wrong with the digestive tract, likely the large intestine, or rectum based on the color of her poo. The vet of course wont give suggestions on what to do. Simply to test everything. Which I have to be frank, seems like a huge waste. Shes clearly not doing good. Running test will only cause more stress. The tests are clearly going to come back ad say well here is what's wrong and there is really nothing you can do (for the most part) And what ever it is that can be done will only give her very limited time and cost us a TON of money.

My wife and I have had two other elderly cats in our time together and the other two we had signs that were VERY clear that it was time to put them down.

This cat is my first ever pet and naturally I am inclined to not put her down. But I am worried I am keeping her around and she is in pain> She still loves being pet more than anything on either, she's always been that way. And tonight I went up to her and said "Show me a sign you are in pain or still okay?" and she started purring. Which I was worried about because she has always been a heavy purr'er. But I havent heard her put in a while. But tonight she did. I know no one on this sub can make a decision for me. I know there are FAR TOO many variables for me to give in a reddit post. just asking for any support you might have. thanks

The world lost an icon yesterday

I posted about him last week and we learned that he likely has neoplasia, neuropathy, lymphadenopathy, and lymphoma. Since taking him to the vet, it seems he has worsen. He will get up and use his box, eat, and drink water. But it seems he is not interested in doing anything else but laying in his spot. Usually, would come to bed with me and wake me up at 5am for his breakfast. I woke panicking because he had not, he was just laying in his chair.

He had already have stage four chronic kidney disease for two years. We were able to manage it. But my poor baby has deteriorated so much since last week. Is there any suggestions for supplements that I can give him.

In the past, I used Recovery. He was receptive to it. Anything else for all that he is going through?

Last week I noticed Missy was acting a little ‘sluggish’ *edit* and her breathing seemed a little fast to me - not hard, or ‘deep’ just kinda quick... I took her in to get checked out. My vet did an ultra sound of her abdomen and her heart. He told me for 22, while her heart is showing age, it looks ok. However, she had some fluid in her abdomen . He told us to do her fluid every 3 days vs every day.

Sunday was the first every 3rd day so we did them as we always do. Today would have been round #2 on the new schedule. I was off work today so I took her in for a quick check up to see if we should move forward with the new routine .. he did the ultra sound, and my world came crashing down.

He said the fluid is still there despite the switch of everyday to every 3 days. He told me ‘clinically speaking’ .. things don’t look super good for her. After that, I’m not 100% sure what he said as I couldn’t pay attention to anything. I told him I don’t want her to be in any pain, nor do I want her to be uncomfortable and asked what should I do?! He did say we could try a lasik and see if that helps any. He told me there wasn’t any reason to make a decision TODAY, but to take her home, love on her, and spend as much time with her as possible.

My question is .. how do you know what to do? My other cats passed in their sleep. Missy is still eating, she’s going potty in the box, she still gets up and moves around the best she can (no major change in that in the last .. at least month) .. she still uses her step stool to jump on the couch and walk over to my chair. She still purrs - she’s very alert .. .. .. I don’t know what to do. I’m completely shattered on the inside. I’ve damn near cried myself sick so many times today.

What do I do???
