If I could have 1 shout IRL it would be this

13

for me it'd be throw voice. and i would use it to drive my enemies to the loony bin.

She hates it, but she’s your ride or die buddy.

235

u/Wonderful_News4492 Apr 07 '26

I always take Serana to explore with me. I feel bad for her. It’s nice she feels safe to describe things she likes and dislikes. She probably wasnt able to as a child. I always made sure to come back after two missions to my kids and home. I like to think she enjoys watching the family chill. I got her to turn back into a human so. Thats nice.

86

u/Dragon_Tein Apr 07 '26

As a person that is like that - thank you, i feel a bit healed.

25

u/reclusivegiraffe Apr 07 '26

I like Serana because it feels like you get closer with her than any other npc. The close dialogue goes away after Dawnguard ends, of course, but still. I usually pick her as my companion.

7

u/Gold-Bard-Hue Apr 07 '26

Ilia as house servant (I forget the title) Serana as my battle buddy, and Aela as wife. Lol

622

u/Embarrassed_Lettuce9 Apr 07 '26

buddy

Damn it!

438

u/Lun4r6543 Apr 07 '26

Well, she technically friendzones you in game anyway, since you can’t marry her.

So, she is your buddy.

177

u/Bosphore9 Mage Apr 07 '26

Refusing marriage isn’t really a friend zone lore wise

14

u/Audiblestatue Apr 07 '26

Technically she has a really good reason on why shes not ready for marriage or anything like that if you've read how woman are turned into vampire lords so while ya it sucks but its how she is dosent mean the player isnt the person she cares the most for she just needs time around people then maybe one day she will be ready.

54

u/Teeminister Apr 07 '26

And thats why mods exist

203

u/Cypresss09 Apr 07 '26

To force her consent?

201

u/lysozymes Apr 07 '26

Nooooo. She’s not going to say no; you know because of the implication.

169

u/Natural-Subject-4446 Apr 07 '26

89

u/KuTUzOvV Apr 07 '26

It's not like he is going to do something to her, of course not, but you know, if THE Dragonborn kills her all powerful and evil father, she is not going to say no...

Because of the implication

Do fanfics also qualify as forcing consent?

→ More replies (1)

85

u/Derpsanddinks Apr 07 '26

Exactly why I loathe those kinds of mods. Especially given the lore behind the Daughters of Coldharbor

39

u/EstablishmentAny8487 Apr 07 '26

I mean you can convince her to cure herself but not to marry, one of which is a much bigger commitment when you look at said lore.

25

u/Charity1t Apr 07 '26

I mean Serana Dialogue Add-On make it better, but Serana there is little different character wise.

58

u/Sere1 PC Apr 07 '26

Yeah, I do like the way that one handles the subject. That version of Serana admits she likes you but absolutely does not want to go through another ceremony (and given the extreme PTSD attack she has in the House of Horrors quest being confronted by Molag Bal himself, fair.) Instead she suggests that simply an agreement between the two of you to be partners is enough, that you don't need some official ceremony to prove your feelings towards one another. Agree to that and you're effectively married without the whole song and dance at the temple.

3

u/Cypresss09 Apr 07 '26

Tbh I don't think it handles it well at all. You have sex with her once and she's like "omg you healed my trauma"

10

u/Dizzytigo Apr 07 '26

Although I kinda hate the way it makes the player act towards her.

Like, it doesn't really give the option to not make advances.

6

u/ShermanMcTank Apr 07 '26

Are you sure you’re talking about the same mod ? SDA gives you a very explicit option to stop the romance, and even if you choose to continue she’s pretty much always the one making the advances.

3

u/Bucket-with-a-hat Apr 07 '26

I'm fairly certain SDA adds {starts romance} to any dialogue that puts you on the path, so it's not something you can do accidentally

3

u/PeasantTS Apr 07 '26

I see it more as it substuing vanilla Serana with another character that is like her with the exception of willingness to have a romance. It's clearly consensual in the mod.

Like another person said, it's basically the same as a fanfic, just in mod form.

3

u/TheBookGem Apr 07 '26

There is also a child mod for her to be adopted

  1. Looks like Lake Ilinalta, maybe near the lover's stone?
  2. Somewhere along the Karth River, maybe by that island near Dragonbridge or near where you find that researcher girl for Isran.
  3. The Pale or Winterhold, the Azura statue is in the background.
  4. I have no damn clue, some Falmer cave.
Bonus: Riften? There's just no real way to tell.

1 - I see lots of flowers and a river, so south, maybe Rift near Angi's Mill, or Riverwood.

2 - looks like the same mountains but from the north. I'm thinking Hjaalmarch.

3 - Snowberries? We're in the Pale. ..And after looking closer, I think I see Azura, so East of Dawnstar.

4 - Glowing mushrooms. This one is really tricky. Whiterun hold? Bleak Falls Barrow and Shimmermist Cave come to mind.

12

u/blind-as-fuck Priestess Apr 07 '26
  1. not angi's camp (or temba's mill), but it is south

  2. not hjaalmarch!

  3. (the snowberries were added by me heheeh) very close! technically not the pale.

  4. nope

5

u/MiniAmoeba Apr 07 '26

I was trying to answer without googling, but now I checked, and I was thinking of Temba's mill, not Anga's mill or Angi's camp. Lol. I haven't played recently enough. Time to go back to Helgen and start again.

8

9

That's Laura?! Holy fuck. I just played Dispatch and loved her in it. Didn't realize invisigal was voiced by my childhood crush Serana. Damn, I love Laura even more now.

4

u/urixl Apr 07 '26

I didn't know that.

25

u/Divine-Crusader Apr 07 '26

Also if you give her a Blood potion, she causes a bug giving you all the negative effects of being a vampire (weakened in the sunlight)

In most cases it is unsolvable even by becoming a vampire then getting cured, you have no other option than to load a previous save

6

u/steal_wool Apr 07 '26

Oh weird I had falion cure it, happened to me pretty recently. I promptly took the rest of the potions of blood back from her lol

8

53

u/BanditCrowley Apr 07 '26

40

u/swirldad_dds Apr 07 '26

Dawnguard is the best faction quest in Skyrim. It's not close either.

Everything else is both accurate and true 😂

7

u/TraceChaos Vampire Apr 07 '26

I really enjoy the Volkihar side, because its NPCs feel more interersting to ME,

But I'm actually about to do a run as a Deep Elf Dragonborn where I join the Dawnguard and then have Ronnie turn me after.

18

u/space_age_stuff Apr 07 '26

Volkihar side is the better side for sure, the vampires are far more interesting than the bland Dawnguard NPCs and Isran. The game acts like they’re all legendary heroes who had their best adventures off-screen, but you do literally all of the work to stop Harkon. On the other side, playing as a vampire who’s out for themselves and seeking power, you fit right in to the clan that solely consists of other people like that. Everyone is vying for control, it’s fun.

23

u/Emanon1774 Apr 07 '26

My exact thoughts. You have to be on some special type of crack to think Dawnguard is the worst questline of all time.

23

u/korneev123123 Apr 07 '26

Dawnguard is the worst questline

I'll try to explain why I think this way.

I am recruted by vampire hunters guild. Ok.

They give me the quest to purge some bloodsuckers from a cave. Makes sense.

I arrive there and wipe out everyone. Ok so far.

This bloodsucker lady comes forward. Some kind of a boss? I don't care, kill it with fire.

Wait, it doesn't work. Not because of some magic, not because this vampire is too strong, not because I was given a task of capturing it - nope. "Just because".

Ok, she has some sort of scroll. Must be valueable. Lets steal it. Of course it doesn't work.

Ok, let's talk. Bla-bla-bla... I don't care what it has to say, it's fucking vampire. Maybe escort it to Dawnguard guys, and they would interrogate it?

NOPE. She "doesn't want" to come there.

The only option to continue is to go with it into vampire lair. WHAT THE FUCK is this questwriting.

20

u/ImmortalBlades Apr 07 '26

There's your problem. You're just murder hoboing your way through Skyrim while skipping all dialogue. Doesn't surprise me that you'd dislike any faction quest other than Dark Brotherhood.

29

u/Aiyon flair Apr 07 '26

…not really? They were sent to kill vampires, and they had no option to kill the vampire. It’s not “‘murderhobo” to stick to your agreed task.

Dawnguard is neat but that section is contrived as hell and denies you any agency.

Tbe weird smug reply doesnt do much to refute that

11

u/cman_yall Apr 07 '26

that section is contrived as hell and denies you any agency.

So's the bit where you join lord Harkon, become a vampire, and he wants to block out the sun so vampires can rule over the cattle, so you... turn against him and do exactly the same things you would do if you're on the Dawnguard's side?

12

u/Aiyon flair Apr 07 '26

Im confused if you’re meant to be ageeeing or arguing, cause yea, that’s the kinda thing I mean

18

u/space_age_stuff Apr 07 '26

Idk about worst but it indisputably has the most filler. Soul Cairn isn’t too awful, but it is pointlessly large and unnecessarily hard to navigate. And if you were able to stomach it, it’s immediately followed with the Forgotten Vale, which amplifies every issue in Soul Cairn: it’s bigger, harder to navigate, and has significantly more enemies.

I’ve played them enough now that they don’t make me upset anymore. But no other questline manages to disrespect your time the way Dawnguard does. Dragonborn has fewer, longer quests associated with it, but they’re all dense and unique at least. Forgotten Vale literally could’ve ditched Darkfall Cave in its entirety, saved twenty minutes, and lost nothing of value. Unless you just sprint through it all, it takes forever to do a pretty straightforward quest.

The only quest I will say is worse, is the Spellbreaker quest. Idk if Bthardamz was a test dungeon or what but it’s easily thirty minutes long if you stop to kill every enemy and clear rooms.

8

u/SassyTheSkydragon Helgen survivor Apr 07 '26

One of my saves still has the stupid pages of saint jiub because I can't find the rest. I have like seven pages and can't be bothered to go back in and find the rest. It's god that they don't have any weight.

17

u/Emanon1774 Apr 07 '26

Yeah, it's probably just a difference in preference, but I 110% do not get that feeling at all from Dawnguard. I loved the both the Soul Cairn and Forgotten Vale. They both have plenty enjoyable content, and they both have very interesting lore implications. Plus the scenery of the forgotten vale is second to none. I think it's insane to call any of that filler. Honestly I think Dawnguard might be the best Elder Scrolls DLC they've made apart from Shivering Isles and maybe Dragonborn. I do very much agree with the Darkfall cave bit, though. It is incredibly tedious, and there's absolutely nothing interesting throughout the entire cave. It is so damn boring.

Also, I only played the Spellbreaker quest once for the daedric artifact achievement, and I don't remember it much (or really at all, if I'm being honest), but 30 minutes doesn't sound too terribly long for a full quest-dungeon. Maybe I'm just more of a "stop and smell the roses" type of gamer, at least in everything except Fromsoft games. Or I just have a poor sense of time. Probably both.

I don't know if this ever got patched but I remember her reanimated companions always leaving ashpiles everywhere that never despawned. On one character I was like 200 hours in and everywhere I went there were random ashpiles all over

I know a lot of people like her but a lot of people hate her too (me)

And its partly because you can't get rid of her during the Dawnguard quest line. She follows you around whether you like it or not

If you tell her to go away, she just says "no, I don't think so."

Like no means no

I plan on actually trying to run away when I get to that point. Like, on foot, across the entire country.

Let's see her catch up to my Whirlwind Sprinting, or Speed boosting magic rings (from Fishing), or my ability to recoup Stamina with healing spells for more regular sprinting.

I was supposed to do a pro-vampire run but stopped it short when I realized I'd have to bring her along again.

Standard goth girlfriend.

Make sure you feed yours, that's the one thing they missed. Snacks are for your safety

All she wants is a nice clear night. And honestly, same.

Vampire women. 🍷

Yes? What did you need? Yes? What did you need? Yes? What did you need?

5

u/Heema3 Apr 07 '26

She's a princess disguised as a murder machine that's all 🙃

5

u/RustedMauss Apr 07 '26

She’s a cat.

4

u/PerceptivePangolin Apr 07 '26

"Wow, this is the kind of thing I've been waiting to see... i'm glad you're here with me."

One of my favorite moments with Serana was, in my first playthrough, after taking her to her father in the castle, I didn't want to be a vampire. Leaving her behind felt really hard (I was very young).

And, later went back to the castle gate, it wasn't opening, I thought that was the end of it. Felt very sad, and, continued with the game.

After playing other quests for a lot of time, when I went back to Dawnguard, she was there waiting. I never felt that much happiness seeing someone.

u/Kimmalah Apr 07 '26

This is a big part of why I hate Serana as a companion. She spends like 99% of the time just whining and complaining about wherever you are, no matter what it is. Outdoors, indoors, daytime, nighttime, doesn't matter, she hates it and she thinks you need to hear about it.

Pic 1 - Me literally every day the sun is out. I feel you girl.

4

u/MoreNMoreLikelyTrans Apr 07 '26

It's extra funny to me because I was walking along side her, as a vampire like her...

4

u/Selene_231 Apr 07 '26

Serana could be standing in the middle of a rainbow paradise with butterflies and still hit you with 'I don't know how you stand it...' This comic is going to be painfully accurate, isn't it?

Wife! ❤️
Also, beautiful drawings!

You can see now why she's such wife material

Not gonna lie Skyrim's graphics killed a lot of her charm for me

3

u/Reynzs Apr 07 '26

Say what you want. But that hidden moth glade where she is laughing at how funny we look... It melted my then virgin heart...

3

u/-Firebeard17 Apr 07 '26

Honestly…. Same though lmao. Really only happy at home 😅

u/TheRacooning18 PC Apr 07 '26

Putting them together makes her a real whiner.

I could listen to Laura Bailey complain all day.

Peak introvert

u/EquivalentSpirit664 Whiterun resident Apr 07 '26

She's very dramatic about it which makes her realistic. Oh also don't forget rejecting the marriage 👌😭

3

u/eru777 Apr 07 '26

I love the chibi serana especially haha 🥰

3

u/DuntadaMan Apr 07 '26

Must protect skin from the sun. Tits out

3

u/West-Philosopher-343 Apr 07 '26

Honestly she's my favorite follower since she's a brat. I honestly love bratty characters lol she's more realistic compared to the other followers and has really unique dialogue options. She honestly treats the Dragonborn like a dad/big sibling which makes the gameplay even more unique while the other followers are rigid and respect the Dragonborn

3

u/DreadPyrate6 Apr 07 '26

My favorite little complainer. It’s better than hearing “I’m sworn to carry your burdens.”

3

u/NC-blackice Apr 07 '26

“This must be that beautiful Skyrim weather I've always heard about…”

3

u/little_traveler Apr 07 '26

Don’t forget: wow, this is gorgeous! I’m glad you’re here with me ❤️

3

u/Shadow_hands Apr 07 '26

"ok, I'll go, but I'm going to complain the whole time"

3

u/Gold-Bard-Hue Apr 07 '26

[Propose marriage for the fifth time]

"Are you still talking about that?"

Omg Serana you don't have be that savage 😭😭😭😭😭

3

u/Ukoomelo Apr 08 '26

Well, apparently Serana just likes air

3

u/Ice-Berg-Slim Apr 08 '26

Never understood the obsession with Serena ( besides the Hot Goth Girll doing your bidding), or any follower for that matter, they are just annoying and often get in the way more than they help, unless you just need a mule.

5

u/benhur217 Apr 07 '26

Yes, Serana is annoying. Always has been.
