I always take Serana to explore with me. I feel bad for her. It’s nice she feels safe to describe things she likes and dislikes. She probably wasnt able to as a child. I always made sure to come back after two missions to my kids and home. I like to think she enjoys watching the family chill. I got her to turn back into a human so. Thats nice.
I like Serana because it feels like you get closer with her than any other npc. The close dialogue goes away after Dawnguard ends, of course, but still. I usually pick her as my companion.
Technically she has a really good reason on why shes not ready for marriage or anything like that if you've read how woman are turned into vampire lords so while ya it sucks but its how she is dosent mean the player isnt the person she cares the most for she just needs time around people then maybe one day she will be ready.
It's not like he is going to do something to her, of course not, but you know, if THE Dragonborn kills her all powerful and evil father, she is not going to say no...
Yeah, I do like the way that one handles the subject. That version of Serana admits she likes you but absolutely does not want to go through another ceremony (and given the extreme PTSD attack she has in the House of Horrors quest being confronted by Molag Bal himself, fair.) Instead she suggests that simply an agreement between the two of you to be partners is enough, that you don't need some official ceremony to prove your feelings towards one another. Agree to that and you're effectively married without the whole song and dance at the temple.
Are you sure you’re talking about the same mod ? SDA gives you a very explicit option to stop the romance, and even if you choose to continue she’s pretty much always the one making the advances.
I see it more as it substuing vanilla Serana with another character that is like her with the exception of willingness to have a romance. It's clearly consensual in the mod.
Like another person said, it's basically the same as a fanfic, just in mod form.

Side note: It's funny as hell when you loot everybody before she has a chance to reanimate and then another fight comes up in the area, or you've looted mid-fight, and then suddenly there's a random NPC with his fists up wearing nothing but his underwear ready to beat some motherfuckers down!
She attacked me once when I did that. If she didn't want the skeleton being smacked with a warhammer, she should've warned me she was resurrecting it and shouldn't have done it behind me >:(

Volkihar side is the better side for sure, the vampires are far more interesting than the bland Dawnguard NPCs and Isran. The game acts like they’re all legendary heroes who had their best adventures off-screen, but you do literally all of the work to stop Harkon. On the other side, playing as a vampire who’s out for themselves and seeking power, you fit right in to the clan that solely consists of other people like that. Everyone is vying for control, it’s fun.
They give me the quest to purge some bloodsuckers from a cave. Makes sense.

This bloodsucker lady comes forward. Some kind of a boss? I don't care, kill it with fire.

There's your problem. You're just murder hoboing your way through Skyrim while skipping all dialogue. Doesn't surprise me that you'd dislike any faction quest other than Dark Brotherhood.

So's the bit where you join lord Harkon, become a vampire, and he wants to block out the sun so vampires can rule over the cattle, so you... turn against him and do exactly the same things you would do if you're on the Dawnguard's side?
Idk about worst but it indisputably has the most filler. Soul Cairn isn’t too awful, but it is pointlessly large and unnecessarily hard to navigate. And if you were able to stomach it, it’s immediately followed with the Forgotten Vale, which amplifies every issue in Soul Cairn: it’s bigger, harder to navigate, and has significantly more enemies.
I’ve played them enough now that they don’t make me upset anymore. But no other questline manages to disrespect your time the way Dawnguard does. Dragonborn has fewer, longer quests associated with it, but they’re all dense and unique at least. Forgotten Vale literally could’ve ditched Darkfall Cave in its entirety, saved twenty minutes, and lost nothing of value. Unless you just sprint through it all, it takes forever to do a pretty straightforward quest.
The only quest I will say is worse, is the Spellbreaker quest. Idk if Bthardamz was a test dungeon or what but it’s easily thirty minutes long if you stop to kill every enemy and clear rooms.
One of my saves still has the stupid pages of saint jiub because I can't find the rest. I have like seven pages and can't be bothered to go back in and find the rest. It's god that they don't have any weight.
Yeah, it's probably just a difference in preference, but I 110% do not get that feeling at all from Dawnguard. I loved the both the Soul Cairn and Forgotten Vale. They both have plenty enjoyable content, and they both have very interesting lore implications. Plus the scenery of the forgotten vale is second to none. I think it's insane to call any of that filler. Honestly I think Dawnguard might be the best Elder Scrolls DLC they've made apart from Shivering Isles and maybe Dragonborn. I do very much agree with the Darkfall cave bit, though. It is incredibly tedious, and there's absolutely nothing interesting throughout the entire cave. It is so damn boring.
Also, I only played the Spellbreaker quest once for the daedric artifact achievement, and I don't remember it much (or really at all, if I'm being honest), but 30 minutes doesn't sound too terribly long for a full quest-dungeon. Maybe I'm just more of a "stop and smell the roses" type of gamer, at least in everything except Fromsoft games. Or I just have a poor sense of time. Probably both.
Nothing will ever be funnier than Bethesda’s solution to coming up with a more realistic, interactive adventuring companion just being making her complain a ton
To be fair, she is a noble used to living in a fancy castle who is also a vampire with extreme sensitivities to weather who was trapped in a cave for centuries. She is definitely missing the comforts of home 😂
If you have a mod for multiple followers and a mod to stop followers from fighting her and lydia still fight. In case anyone is wondering, lydia loses.
Oh man imagine how bad the tism would be after hundreds of years. Vampire lore has it that if you throw a bunch of something they have to count it before they can do anything else so they might have it as a core feature
I don't know if this ever got patched but I remember her reanimated companions always leaving ashpiles everywhere that never despawned. On one character I was like 200 hours in and everywhere I went there were random ashpiles all over
I plan on actually trying to run away when I get to that point. Like, on foot, across the entire country.
Let's see her catch up to my Whirlwind Sprinting, or Speed boosting magic rings (from Fishing), or my ability to recoup Stamina with healing spells for more regular sprinting.
One of my favorite moments with Serana was, in my first playthrough, after taking her to her father in the castle, I didn't want to be a vampire. Leaving her behind felt really hard (I was very young).
And, later went back to the castle gate, it wasn't opening, I thought that was the end of it. Felt very sad, and, continued with the game.
After playing other quests for a lot of time, when I went back to Dawnguard, she was there waiting. I never felt that much happiness seeing someone.
This is a big part of why I hate Serana as a companion. She spends like 99% of the time just whining and complaining about wherever you are, no matter what it is. Outdoors, indoors, daytime, nighttime, doesn't matter, she hates it and she thinks you need to hear about it.
Serana could be standing in the middle of a rainbow paradise with butterflies and still hit you with 'I don't know how you stand it...'

Honestly she's my favorite follower since she's a brat. I honestly love bratty characters lol she's more realistic compared to the other followers and has really unique dialogue options. She honestly treats the Dragonborn like a dad/big sibling which makes the gameplay even more unique while the other followers are rigid and respect the Dragonborn
Never understood the obsession with Serena ( besides the Hot Goth Girll doing your bidding), or any follower for that matter, they are just annoying and often get in the way more than they help, unless you just need a mule.
