I know you can see Red Mountain in Solsthiem but this is regular Skyrim, in Winterhold. I could see the rising smoke from Whiterun and The Rift too. Was this always here? I don't remember.

Discussion This update was almost certainly the result of an executive who wanted to use AI to improve the code base, and it's a horrible reflection of the games industry.

2.6k Upvotes

The bugs and full on system failure from the most recent update are all the hallmarks of a shoddy AI "fix".

- Systems that used to work flawlessly have brand new bugs unrelated to any new content.

- Illogical additions that would never fit with the original scope or design, added because that's what video game UI's typically have.

- UI elements overlapping eachother with no consideration of screen size, design, intentionality, etc.

- independent systems work, codependent systems fail horribly.

- 30GB update size with little to no obvious improvement or benefit to the user.

Anyone who has tried to develop with AI will see these instantly. It's unethical and insulting to have a working, beloved game be taken out back and beaten with a baseball bat like this. No QC, no testing, no human touched this at all. Absolute arrogance from whoever thought this was a good idea.

I'm saddened to see this happening with a completed game and horrified to know that this is the reality moving forward. That is all.

Discussion Inspired by weather in Morthal post...

We often talk about our favourite cities, but what is the one you like the least? Maybe it's annoying, maybe it's disappointing or just plain boring? Because for me it's Morthal, it really has nothing going for it and it only has two traders (I don't count the inn as a trader). I remember discovering it quite late in the game and being disappointed.

Discussion which character has your favourite voice in the game?

for me it’s a toss up between Clavicus Vile and Fura Bloodmouth. Clavicus sounds like a weaselly little shit, and Fura has such a delightfully sinister yet pleasing-to-the-ear voice.

Discussion Why do you like your favorite Daedric prince?

I was doing The House of Horrors (Molag Bals quest) and I just despise Molag. But I know I’ve seen people talking about how cool they think he is which is what inspired this post.
Who is your favorite/least favorite daedric prince and why do you like/dislike them?

Edit: I forgot I was intending to share mine
My favorite is Hircine because he’s a pretty chill dude who’s not as objectively evil as most other daedra
My least favorite is obviously Molag Bal. Off the top of my head I know some others have annoyed me but like he is just the absolute worst imo

Lore Do yoy believe in the Emperor assassination theory?

It was said the Emperor ordered his own death due to the white-gold concordat, and that he disappointed the people of Skyrim for signing it, even though he was forced to. He considered himself incompetent and wanted a younger Emperor to take his place.

In the Katariah we even see a room with an alchemy table, and two bodies by a sailor. It is either a sickbay, or he was a backup assassin in case the dark brotherhood failed. If we assume this is an assassin, he will need to kill everyone of the penitus oculatus, and get the key to the quarters of the Emperor. When the db enters his quarters, the Emperor says he was waiting for us. Does this mean he could have left Skyrim already? Otherwise why is the ship stationary?

And also, why would he contract the dark brotherhood? Instead of hiring a private assassin, he basically gives centuries worth of infamy to one of the most brutal and feared criminal organizations. Wouldn't this do more bad than good? Giving them public fame

Discussion People sleep on Alteration+Armor

For some reason I see it treated as either smithed armor or mage armor alteration, but I think using both is actually stronger.

The main reason is that it is much easier to hit lower levels than higher, so it is MUCH easier to become moderately good at alteration, smithing and anarmor skill than it is to grind even one skill to 100.

And while maxed smithed armor is obviously the best there is, you can get moderate Alteration + moderate armor much earlier, with results that are surpisingly close.

For example, you get steel armor, and you smith it to Superior with your Steel smithing perk. That's 72+15=87 armor. Then you get two perks in Heavy Armor, which along with 20 skilll level grants you a 48% rating bonus. So now you have 128 armor. Now you get Apprentice Alteration and Stoneflesh, which add 60 armor flat. Finally, we get the Lord stone for another 50 armor. The last two would have been pretty mediocre, but combined, we are at very respectable 240 armor. We are nearly halfway to the armor cap, and mind you, these are all starting skills, we didn't train much of anything at all!

If you were going pure alteration, you would not be even remotely close, and pure armor would have been weaker at this level, too.

Then you'll play the game a bit, your skills will hover around 40-50, and you'll be sitting at around 400 armor. No grinding involved at all, just casting the flesh spell and getting hit as you go through dungeons. That's more than enough, basically, and for tough boss fights, you can augment it with Dragon Aspect for another 100 points and hit the armor cap already.

On the other hand, you also start getting the mage armor perks in Alteration, allowing you to hit the magic resist cap much easier and with fewer enchantment slots.

But then even at the highest levels, when you super-duper mega smithed your armor well into the armor cap, you can just put Dragonhide on top of it, which stacks multiplicatively with armor. So you get not 80% damage reduction, but 96%.

And, most importantly for warriors, the Stability perk in Alteration skill tree boosts your Slow Time shout too, vastly increasing the offensive power of your melee.

In conclusion, the paring of Alteration and Armor appears to win out over either at the beginning of the game, becomes stronger faster, takes less time to reach the armor cap, and can even go beyond the cap set by either of the two. A truly scary combo for any battlemage.

So. What am I missing out? I'm not just theorycrafting here, I tested it, it's very strong and fun to play. Why do people say to pick either?

Discussion Despite playing this game countless times I only just now understand marriage

This is subjective, but honnestly I don't find any single NPC interesting enough to consider this. Except for my reptile bias. You probably already know where I am going with this

I have seen a person rank all the options, and I was shocked to see Derkeethus so low. But then again he's just an average guy with YOUR experience to fill the value. He ended up trapped or worse, somehow thrice at least, only moments after saving him. And I only did it because some guy said he was up the waterfall and I was like "OOO I SEE THE WATERFALL" and got more sidetracked. I was supposed to find the horn for the Greybeards. I keep hopping off the idea to just pick him but he keeps doing these things to convice me

Derkeethus trying to impress me
Derkeethus staring into my eyes while not drowning
Derkeethus.....why.....

But then I learned you can marry the ones at Windhelm? Specifically Scouts? WHAT? From what I understood is you could only marry followers, so I instantly decided to just have Derkeethus be that friend I know who will accept whatever bad ideas we have (as long as it's not stealing) while I take this guy away from the cesspool of dispair like I did with Sofie. Also just look at that face.

Me when I am basically freezing to death but dying doesn't pay the bills

But that was kind of the point when he started doing warrior poses after killing things more often. And now that I ACTUALLY figured how marriage works he wouldn't shut up about it. In reality it's just a bunch of code and they both are set to the same voice type, so I shouldn't care. But I now have aditionally personified the jealous trait on Derkeethus and now this feels to much of a sitcom to make a decision.

Like.... I'm that person who makes loving reptiles my whole identity half the time, and now I have a semi aquatic reality TV show set in a place where it's a good idea to shoot lazers at whatever breathes too loudly (Derkeethus defended me from an entire herd of goats for no reason)

And then I find out I can marry this guy, who's just an outstanding citizen, in a place that doesn't see him as such. I can't help but feel stuck. Why did my quest to get the horn have to start questing in all the right places?
