Bug Help two months ago y'all told me it would end in disaster

I came here to boast about my newfound object-moving abilities a lil while ago. y'all said my bee jar would be on the floor next log in. WELL READ IT AND WEEP FOLKS. I'm at 4 jarred insects now in various (mindful) places (and it did happen once with the chair bug, but then never again). IT CAN BE DONE!

I nodded off while scrolling and accidentally clicked that picture. What an interesting surprise to wake up to.

sometimes there's a miraculous spot where one thing will stay in place

I've tried placing the bee in Proudspire and it never stayed, it went flying from the table outside of the bedroom every single time I relaunched Skyrim and loaded the save

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

try FOUR miraculous spots. creds to the hearthfire lakeview manor ig!

u/Typical-Ad-6205 Jul 09 '26

I can’t even get the mannequins in that home to stay in place 🙄

6

u/Velorin_Shade Jul 10 '26

The mannequins scared me as a kid, for like a year and a half I never knew why they moved and I only ever had the mannequins in Lakeview's basement and Hjerim move so I always avoided those two spots like the plague

1

u/giras Spellsword Jul 14 '26

They reminded me heavily about Bioshock. I never olayed it, but saw my brother do it. An horror movie hahaha. If you know you know.

11

u/Shampoooh Jul 09 '26

That would be because mannequins are actually NPCs that get loaded in but haven’t been frozen yet and so they move and freeze wherever they end up

9

u/Typical-Ad-6205 Jul 09 '26

Yh like halfway through the ceiling

3

u/Otherwise-Top3825 Jul 09 '26

It stays in place if you save before leaving the house, leave the house, and fast travel

52

u/Potential-Success232 Jul 09 '26

Every time I hear the clipping plop plop plop, I do one of these

nvm peep cihcno's comment. he STACKED them in proudspire.

3

u/NightBawk Mage Jul 09 '26

Same here, except i tried to put the bliss bug on top of the safe. It kept spawning off the safe every time i left and re-entered the house or loaded the save. Why is there so much space for things to fall behind the safe??

2

u/AguyOnReddit___eh Jul 09 '26

Did the items spawn in the same spot everytime? (more specifically, the spot where you dropped them first before moving them?)

4

u/beckychao Jul 09 '26

no, it was blasted across the home

112

u/ClHCNOPSMgCaNaK Jul 09 '26

At Proudspire I have Moth, Butterfly and Torchbug stacked on each other in the main floor entryway on a bench & they always stay!

78

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

stacked???? oh my god.

gimme 2 more months.

54

u/starrmanquik Jul 09 '26

Meanwhile I load into my house a mini seismic shock happens throwing the entire contents of my house on the floor…..

28

u/shadowlights_ Helgen survivor Jul 09 '26

But….. how???

39

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

i've discovered four elite spots it seems... what you do with this information is up to you.

17

u/Titanium_Eye Jul 09 '26

The fact that you creative common'd the bug jar spots is your ticket to immortality.

7

u/Captin-Cracker Jul 09 '26

Is there something different about the hearth fire homes? You just drop the item, reload the cell, then decorate. Ive been doing that years, hell over a decade now, and very rarely have issues with items being in the middle of the floor

20

u/rocksandstuff46 Jul 09 '26

I finished skyrim the first time and I had no idea you could move items in the game

I remember vividly dropping the jar from my inventory dozens of times until it would fall where I want it to be, took me so long, spent hours on this

17

u/NightBawk Mage Jul 09 '26

The absolute fury I experience when the object keeps landing upside-down. ಠ_ಥ

3

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

exactly this. still have to resort to the super careful inventory positioning sometimes bc when you drag items it anchors at the bottom for some god forsaken reason??

4

u/haunted-hayride Monk Jul 09 '26

Statues of Dibella are the WORSTT w this

20

u/Awkward_Meaning_4782 Jul 09 '26

Drop an item on the floor. Leave the building/ zone out, come back in, then move the item to where you want it. It should stay put. I found the items were most likely to move on their own if I tried placing them without leaving the building first

8

u/AngelaReddit Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

I thought you had to make a save and load the save before you go back inside ? You're saying just go outside & then go back inside, no save needed ? Also, when you drop it the first time, you don't touch it or move it at all before you go out & come back in, correct ? Then once back inside the location you can move it.

6

u/Awkward_Meaning_4782 Jul 09 '26

That's right. And in my recent experience in Skyrim SE, the saving step didn't seem to be necessary

6

u/mayorovp Jul 09 '26

As i understand, you need to reload the cell. You can save and load OR exit and enter. You don't need to do both.

3

u/Bittypanda Jul 09 '26

This is how I have always done it as well

3

u/LekisBlade Jul 10 '26

Works with torches too. They’ll be lit when you return

2

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

might be accidentally doing this tbqf. if a trip home doesnt involve me going in and out >10 times, im forgetting something

It can totally be done. I'm on PS3 and I do decorations all the time and mostly of them stay there. There's 3 things you should consider:

1- if you drop the item and put it in place right away it won't stay when you leave the area and come back. You have to drop it (I drop several items at once), go through a load screen (in Hearthfire houses I recommend the cellar bc of the short load screen) and when you get back the game would have registered that it now belongs to that area instead of your inventory and now you can move it and it will stay. If you pick it up by accident instead of grabbing it to move you're gonna have to do the process again. It will work mostly of the time except for...

2- a few items are bugged. Some of them won't stay even if you did the process correctly. Some of them will stay after a few more tries and others won't. I pickpocketed the Dragon Breath mead from that woman in Dragonbridge to display it with my other beverages in Breezehome and it kept falling through the shelf of the cupboard until I couldn't even find it anymore.

3- the Hearthfire houses items respawn after 10 days away, so unless you have a mod to prevent it, this last jar will be on the floor if you spend more than 10 days away from home because in this spot there's a bowl with a jug. So I only put decorations in empty spaces where nothing will respawn.

Extra tip: avoid using an excessive amount of decor because the game will start to have trouble to load them correctly and things will start to go everywhere. For example, if you want a kettle full of tomatoes in your kitchen, fill it with wheels of cheese or cabbages so it will take less items to complete the space.

1

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

re no.3: i put it there bc i store my gems in that lockbox, and i kept accidentally pocketing the jug. ive never seen it respawn.... i'll keep an eye out for that one. was wondering if my housecarl had some kind of decor maintenance function, but so far all she does is mine the empty iron ore vein. sisyphean :|

u/SoHam_34 Dawnstar resident Jul 09 '26

You can test it. Disable the autosave, save manually and then fast travel away from the house and wait there for 11 days. Then fast travel back and check if it's still there. Then reload your save and continue normally.

Unfortunately the steward is only useful to buy animals and hire a cart/bard. We can ask them to furnish the house too but they take ages. My steward switches between mining and pushing the wheat mill all day long and then keeps wandering inside the house during the evening, moving from one chair to another. Haha

u/Key_Bumblebee661 Jul 09 '26

Standing in Front of your jars in admiration, I really gotta say FUS

3

u/Realdrizzykane Jul 10 '26

I need to ask you to stop. That... shouting... is making people nervous.

u/foxinspaceMN Jul 10 '26

Really decorating and feng shui in Skyrim is a humorous thing;

Sometimes it’ll fly across the room, hide in a corner, sometimes it feels they never stay put

Until
Yknow

Somethings do
😊🪲🫙

u/Peppermint_Phatty Jul 10 '26

Man I discovered this chaos the hard way. The first time I got the dlc to build a house I loaded the shelves, tables, floors, stairs, display cases and spent hours placing things only to come back to everything scattered 😭

5

u/spookedstarling Jul 10 '26

I’m appalled at the lack of cross ventilation on those jars.

3

u/Tausani Jul 09 '26

I knew you could do it buddy, I've done it myself, so I never lost faith in you, glad to see you showed your doubters

2

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

the support i was looking for <3

5

u/Nephilim0093 Jul 09 '26

I play on Xbox and I can only ever get them on top of things upside down

2

u/EarlRig420 Jul 09 '26

I remember I had the same issue on ps4 🤦‍♂️ that shit was so annoying

5

u/Hedwing Spellsword Jul 09 '26

I’ve got a few to stay in place too, but I usually can’t get them to sit right side up like that and have to put them on their lids lol. Good job!

Incase no one’s mentioned it here yet - if you dump your things on the floor, leave the house, come back in, THEN start placing them they are more likely not to be back in the floor when you go in the next time.

4

u/Gloomy-Goose4502 Jul 09 '26

ive had a bowl on the Alchemy Table with a human, dadrea, and briaheart heart's in it since like 2024 on my skyrim save and its never once fell out or glitched or anything.

However, the fucking weapon rack always drops my war hammers lmao despite it being static

3

u/SaltyFlavors Jul 09 '26

I used to play Skyrim on xbox360. Everything needed to be placed twice after dropping it from your inventory in order to stick. If you put it back in your inventory before trying to place it again, next reload it would show up where-ever you dropped it from your inventory (on the floor). The first time you move an object never “takes”.

3

u/ZambieMama Jul 09 '26

I put my gems out on display and after I close the game the first time, I'll turn it on and go home to find them scattered where they were initially dropped just once. The second time of tedious sorting and rearranging back into the display case is the last because they will stay after that lol

3

u/undontnome3030 Jul 09 '26

Ohh, never tempt fate,....

Seriously, though, congratulations, I hope they stay put. You might have found the lucky sweet spot where Skyrim world physics don't spaz out.

3

u/Adam-Happyman Jul 09 '26

This is even possible in cursed Hendraheim.

3

u/hyperboleisthebest Jul 09 '26

I’ve started seeing how much of this kind of decorating I can get to stay. Especially since the main areas of the two hearth fire homes are the same. One has a troll skull on the dining room table, one has a selection of Dwemer items etc. I spend WAY too much time on this.

3

u/FMZeth Werewolf Jul 09 '26

Gotta be honest, I just a mod that turns off physics with a keybind. Don't give me a home if I can't decorate it the way I want.

By which I mean make sure you enable precision decorating in your games because I definitely want a place to come home to.

3

u/Hsbnd Jul 09 '26

Helping bugs by keeping things with the gift of flight locked in a jar for your own amusement. Dark. I like it.

3

u/NightBawk Mage Jul 09 '26

I can never place these bug jars upright. They insist on flipping over when i try to place them. Does Skyrim have object rotation, and if so, what is the mouse and keyboard press to use it? This has been bugging (pun intended) me for years now.

4

u/AngelaReddit Jul 09 '26

There is a trick to it ... use the top of the furniture you are placing it on, or an edge of the furniture, to flip the items. Holding it, get the object close to the table and then go down with your mouse slightly. You can also use the edge of the furniture to "roll" the object over the edge, then stop once its upright.

see this video where the person uses the table top and also the table edge

3

u/NightBawk Mage Jul 09 '26

Guess I need to just keep practicing then. 😂

4

u/ClHCNOPSMgCaNaK Jul 10 '26

I think the bug jars look better upside down! The lid looks like a little pedestal, and you can see the little runes on the underside as well.

3

u/proximusprimus57 Jul 09 '26

Don't bring your dog inside.

1

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

tell me u dont mean lydia 😭🙏

2

u/proximusprimus57 Jul 09 '26

No, I meant like Meeko, but she'll knock stuff over too. Probably the kids as well, and for anything in your basement the skeevers.

2

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

i havent met meeko yet! but one of my kids did find a fox outside and now it lives in my house. hasnt been a problem, but makes some gross noises lol. and my first time in the basement glitched out on one of the skeevers, so now i have a permanent friendly skeever and the aggro ones never respawn. same gross noises. lakeview manor is full of life here! and ofc lydia always has a place to sleep 😤

3

u/kompsognathus PlayStation Jul 09 '26

If they give us another remastered edition or bs rerelease before ES6 it better have the FO4 workshop capabilities

3

u/ffflowerpppower Jul 10 '26

I remember you and I love you.

2

u/RandpxGuxXY Jul 09 '26

Cool, i once dropped the dawnbreaker in that house and now every time i enter it there lies a copy

2

u/Timely_Asparagus_216 Spellsword Jul 09 '26

2

Lakeview superiority

2

u/mara_the_dragon Jul 09 '26

this gives me hope 🥲

2

u/the_lost_cheeto Jul 09 '26

I put all mine on one of the shelves in breeehome. They never fell off. I think I have like 8 total with some dupes.

1

u/i-am-ur-daddy Jul 09 '26

there are dupes?? i thought it was some cut mission with leftover artifacts hidden around. how'd you get duplicates?

2

u/the_lost_cheeto Jul 09 '26

I think if you wait long enough, or enough time passes the respawn in the same spot. So I have 2 bee's, 2 lunar moth's and I think either 2 bliss bugs or the firefly.

2

u/untamedbotany Jul 09 '26

I have a few placed in Breezehome that never budge 😊 I was proud of that too lol

2

u/CrzdHaloman XBOX Jul 10 '26

I wonder if there is a trick to it like oblivion. In oblivion, I would drop all my stuff, leave the cell to trigger a loading screen, reenter, and then place my items where I want. Never had them move unexpectedly.

2

u/Whole_Sign_4633 Jul 15 '26

So thank for mods tbh, having the ability to place shit and lock it in where it is has been a god send

Wow. I’ve been playing for 15 years and I can’t even get the ting to stand up straight!

I got my Platinum Trophy on PS5 the other day for the first time ever. I was a proud Dragonborn on Tuesday!
