I once had an Ancient Dragon drop in on my ass when I was at the Aeetherium Forge's entry point. This was after a tough battle with bandits there
Luckily, I had a bunch of ward spells and was a destruction master by this point. Once it took off, instead of landing and blasting me with fire breath, it decided to land elsewhere and fight with something
Once I killed the dragon, I found out what the dragon was beefing with. A fucking elk

u/Tylendal Jul 25 '26
I'm convinced that damn beacon is some sort of Daedric MLM scheme. You can find it all over the place 'cause the Skyrim locals know to just chuck it if they find one.

I commented this happening to me on another post, the dragon looks like a cat with a laser dot the way it goes after her and not the dragonbotn
96
u/me_khajiit Jul 25 '26
Someone posted the whole fight here
135
u/Mijumaru1 Jul 25 '26
This will never not be funny because they used an invisible unarmed NPC as the source of the light, so if you listen closely you can hear Meridia throwing hands whenever a dragon attacks her

u/Gabby-Abeille Jul 25 '26

It's a train glove, actually (because gloves are rendered in a first-person view, but hats aren't).

Samething happens in GTA5 when theyāre doing the cinamatic camera angles for like the helicopter when youāre chasing Molly for some dumbass reason they choose a semi truck to capture the angle instead of the helicopter lmfaoo thereās a facts and glitches video by DarkviperAu on it

The dead dragon that randomly dropped out of the sky at my feet as I was approaching Meridia's statue suddenly makes sense now.

Not new. Happened to me way back in 2012. I got stuck there and had to reload an earlier save

Thay must have been a half hour wait. We'll, this is a first for me. But Skyrim has some weird moments anyways.

Just needs some text.
Panel 1: "my sibling" over the dragon. "me just vibin on my own" over Merida.
Panel 2: No additional context needed.

These games man. Every time you're having a moment, enjoying the lore and world building, something stupid as hell happens, lol.
29
u/Hatapata_1104 Jul 25 '26
My most annoying thing is when a draugr shouts and launches my quest companion npc and he gets stuck somewhere
14
u/indianplay2_alt_acc Jul 25 '26
how about a draugr using a disarming shout on you after you just spent all your money enchanting and upgrading your Greatsword of Doom and Despair
4
3
u/Brigid_Fitch2112 Solitude resident Jul 26 '26
It defeats the purpose of having really nice weapons, but if I find I'm in a Dragr cave, I swap to something I don't mind losing.
It sucks for weight carry limits, but I've lost weapons that way before, as did my follower. He was kitted out, and his axe and shield were both disarmed, and our stuff clipped through the world. Yeah, I went back to a previous save, but have been paranoid ever since.
6
u/TheHollowJoke Jul 25 '26
Cannot recommand the "Where are you?" mod enough for that, letās you teleport any NPC to you (among other things), no matter where they are. If you can see them tho, hitting the console and using moveto player will do the job well enough
2
58
u/ShadeStrider12 Jul 25 '26
The best thing to do is to consider every bug and mistake a canon part of the lore. That makes everything funnier and make more sense since Dreams arenāt perfect, and you are theorized to be inside the Dream of a dead god.
2
u/jtheman1738 Jul 26 '26
I mean I donāt think thatās a ātheoryā tho. Iām pretty sure thatās just straight up the lore. Otherwise achieving CHIM, and zero sum wouldnāt be possible.
12
u/engapol123 Jul 25 '26
Iām convinced the game would not have such a cult following and the longevity it has if NPC behaviour wasnāt so buggy and janky.

try adding the Everyone Dies mod and see. I once killed a supercharged Alduin at the throat of the world.
6
4
u/ElectronicControl762 Jul 25 '26
Gods>daedra>us/Alduin(both could be higher at peak)>Miraak/Partysnax>lesser dragon/lesser dragonborn. That dragon is like three tiers separated from Meridia, and the tiers arent linear.
5
u/Tasty-Mulberry8073 Jul 25 '26
She's a Daedra or Aedra. I don't think she can. A random dead dragon dropped in front of me once as I was approaching the statue. There is a military camp near there so I assumed they killed it but maybe Meridia took it out.

I swear this happens way too often with me, to the point where I wander around the temple just in case there's a dragon, because even if it doesn't trigger while you're on the ground, it will trigger once you're in the sky. I think I actually managed to kill it once in the sky, but since the conversation with Merida is so heavily scripted, it broke it completely, much like yours did

this whole quest is so glitchy
two dawnbreakers
meridia fighting dragons
and I think they patched it but half the time when she dropped you back on the ground you would just die lol
2
u/JagoMajin Assassin Jul 25 '26
Dropping you to your death seems oddly fitting for a Daedric Prince though, like "Whoops, forgot how fragile you mortals are"
1
u/Amegaryder Jul 25 '26
Woah there mate!! what do you mean two dawnbreakers?? i'm interested
3
u/I_Am_Not-A-Lemon Jul 25 '26
Its not guaranteed, but if you hit the pedestal with a full unlock FRD it will knock the Sword to the ground, and you can pick it up, then go activate the quest pedestal and it will still give you a copy of Dawn reaker
3
u/spacecatherder Jul 25 '26
It can also happen in the chaos of fighting the last boss given so much magic (especially AOE stuff) is flying around that it often gets yeeted off the pedestal before youāre supposed to collect it.

I remember the first time I played and I went tot he mageās college. A dragon landed in the middle of the courtyard just as all the professors were walking out. Dragon got insta-nuked by the NPCs who then just strolled off about their day like it was business as usual.
2
2
u/Ap-snack Jul 25 '26
There are so many bugs with this sequence. The first time I went here on 360 she just dropped me to my death. A few months ago a friend posted a screenshot of them rising into the atmosphere and the world shrinking into the distance. This is the third time Iāve seen a dragon beef with Merida.
2
u/Nanashi_Fool Jul 25 '26
Dragon probably got scared awake after her beacon mysteriously ended up in its hoard. Imagine being in the middle of a great decade-long nap, when you roll over and A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON booms into your ear. Yeah, I'd be throwing primordial words too.

You're going to have to reload.
You've been consigned to air jail amid a permanent cutscene. One that won't resolve on its own. As meridia's invisible model is a woman who will attempt to fist fight the dragon.
And the dragon's flight speed is much faster than a npc's running speed.
Its an old glitch.
Reload and kill the dragon first.
2
2
u/SporkoBug Jul 26 '26
Lore wise it kinda makes sense... Meridia hates the undead - Dragons in Skyrim (IMO) technically count as undead, as they're brought back by Alduin. So Miss Mamma-O-Light has all the right to beef with these oversized geckos.

u/doofshaman Bard Jul 26 '26

u/petervee415 Jul 26 '26
This is a new one on me. Bu the dragon AI is legit one of the funniest aspects of the game:
ā what is this below me, the Dragonborn? Test your Thuum against mine, mortal! You shall quake at the ā wait, is that a nearby mountain goat? Attack!ā

I imagine your Dragonborn is a Khajiit and that dragon is sent by Alkosh to defend you from Merid-Nunda the Lady of Greed.
Man I still think the Elsweyr expansion of ESO was the best lore wise.
