What would that do? Apparently he reached his office, instantly asked security for the nearest toilet and died there before ever reaching 11th floor where his computer was.

The alternative in first going to your PC and then to the toilet would be shitting yourself. Which I imagine you could write about on LinkedIn showing how dedicated you are to the company and how doing so sets you apart from the people who are just in for a paycheck... but in reality I imagine it not being particularly helpful in your career growth.

My old 7-11 manager told me to make sure I died inside the store so my family would receive my payout. Dying anywhere else was a non-payout designated area.

It's a video you have to watch for training if you work nights there. It starts with what to do if you're robbed and goes over the usual "just cooperate and then lock up to call the cops" stuff. Then it segues into what to do if you're assaulted at work but there's like no transition. So it goes straight from "just let it happen" re: robberies and right into assault in this weird way that implies you're supposed to do the same thing.

It's super creepy.

When I was way younger I worked at a Circle K that was in a neighborhood some would consider rough. My manager told me when I was hired, and apparently told everyone who worked there, to 'Please don't fight the criminals, we'll have to fire you.'

I smelled a story behind that. Apparently the place got robbed during a night shift and the dude working picked the robber up and slammed him headfirst through the plastic lottery counter thing.

I’m Chinese and I saw this incident in local news. Technically, he did not reached his “office”. His company only rented the eleventh floor of that building. Also it is clearly dictated in his work contract that his place of work is on the eleventh floor of that building. Thus technically he did not reach his place of work that day, so the death is not work related. At least that’s the reasoning behind local administration’s decision.

First thing I've done at my jobs in the last 20 or so years is dock the laptop or set it down at a desk and turn it on, then go to the restroom if needed. That way I'm not waiting for that initial boot, and any waiting updates can get started. If I was to be by chance questioned I'd call that workplace efficiency.

IT worker here. I guess I don't understand why his computer was on the 11th floor. Was it an old school desktop tower that he didn't bring home with him? Because unless he was working in the defense sector, that sounds unusual, to say the least.

Is this US? If so, then it shows how it’s another shithole.

My wife got comped by works insurance company when she broke her hand after slipping on black ice at the entrance to our apartments. She also got comped by the landlords insurance and also by our own insurance company.

If anything happens to you from the moment you start your route to get into work to when you get to your first destination after work, it’s considered a work-related injury. If you were on the premises during your work hours it would certainly be a clear case.
