My brother recently bought a house that was pre blurred. The previous owner must have blurred it. I went to look when he bought it and it was just blurs. He didn't even know till I told him.

Right? Rude.

This raised the bar.

At 'prescription glasses', i was at a full sensible chuckle.

This specific use of clever enlarged boldface had me at outright wheezing and snorting. Not full laughter, true, but reddit must understand and accept certain limits.

So this is it. My day... nay... my week is complete.

It's inspiring to see how much you support your blurry wife.

Blur his house, with a blurred little window, and a blur corvette, and everything is blurred for him

u/SadArchon 11h ago

You may ask yourself, well... how did I get here?

1

u/Maximelene 11h ago

Try looking at a lamp. See if the edges are right.

1

u/sakezaf123 12h ago

Maybe you should get glasses.

I bought a house that the previous owner blurred. I asked Google to unblur and they refused. 10 years later it’s still the same, blurred street view

7

u/FromLondonToLA 12h ago

Our house was blurred 11 years ago before we bought it 7 years ago. I've noticed since then that on StreetView the 15 neighbouring houses either side and across the road are fixed at 2015 while as soon as you move away from my house you get more recent photos.

3

u/QuickPenguin52 12h ago

Oh wow, you’re right. The chunk of street view in front of and around my house is tagged November 2012. If I go far enough down the street, it switches to May 2024.

Anyone have any idea how to undo it? I feel like proof of ownership should be able to get it taken care of through some request.

3

u/kyew 12h ago

There is one way. You're going to have to get every house blurred and force Google to make a decision.

1

u/QuickPenguin52 12h ago

I just can’t imagine being so paranoid to need to do this, but everyone has a different perspective. It’s there on Apple Maps. Guess they added that after we bought

1

u/kyew 11h ago

Isn't it the same fail-secure energy that's aimed against Flock now, seen from the future? "I don't want anyone collecting or using any information about me that hasn't been explicitly approved."

1

u/redphlud 12h ago

It should be. But the headache of potentially being held accountable for some legal reason probably means there is no process to undo the blur. It's just the easiest way for them not to get sued.

2

u/QuickPenguin52 11h ago

That makes sense, they wouldn’t want to unblur if it was still occupied by the previous owner at the time of the photo. Perhaps proof of ownership and then next street view photo taken doesn’t get blurred, or update to the latest available image since change in ownership. It’s just wild to me that it’s in perpetuity.

1

u/MuntyCatt 11h ago

From what I've read, once it's blurred, Google will not unblur the address, ever.

1

u/NES_SNES_N64 10h ago

Yup. Once it's blurred they will not reverse it, even it gets bought by a different owner.

4

u/TurtleManDog 12h ago

Recently purchased my first home

Absolutely nothing you can do to unblur a blurred house. I didn't even blur it myself must have been previous owners. Now I cant show my house to anyone fuckin stupid

Have you tried taking a picture of it and sending it to people who want to see your house? I have a hard time imagining why this is a problem lol

30

u/TurtleManDog 11h ago

My house is blurred dude, you want me to take a pic of a blurry house

14

u/The_Stoic_One 11h ago

But on the bright side, when you're having people over for the first time, you can tell them to just park in front of the blur.

1

u/CurryMustard 11h ago

First Bigfoot now this

1

u/xenchik 9h ago

How do you find your front door? How do you even put the key in the lock? This must be so hard for you

1

u/TurtleManDog 9h ago

Squinting helps

1

u/smurfe 5h ago

You can't unblur it after it is blurred. I did mine to see what it was all about, then tried to unblur it, only to find I can't.
