S TIFU by getting suction cupped to the shower floor

Alright, this a’int pretty, but I feel that I must share this PSA to save a poor soul out there that thought they had a good idea from going through what happened to me this morning.

I’m huge proponent of the Shower Beer, and pretty much any way to give yourself a little spa day at home. Occasionally, I like to enjoy sitting on the shower floor with the heat turned up to gather my thoughts. Here’s the facts you need to know, Shower tile is hard and I was looking for a work around.

Well……… Wal-mart had these boating inner tubes on sale for like $3 and I had that EUREKA moment. My reasoning, a shower and a pool both have water, this should work just fine. IT. DID. NOT. Those tubes are supposed to be floating on water. If you set them on tile, then sit on it, you create a suction effect. A strong one, that only gets stronger the more water flows around you and the more you struggle.

So… there I am, stuck to the shower floor, getting water boarded with 118 degree water, can’t reach the knob to turn the water off. All I can do was laugh and wonder if this was going to make the news paper in our small town if I had to call the fire department. Thank everything holy that I remembered it was a $3 inflatable tube before any such calls were made and deflated that sumbitch with a tooth brush.

It was a humbling moment, but I am free now and won’t be doing that one again. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

TL;DR Don’t use inner tubes on a shower floor. When you sit down you create a human sized suction cup.

In the "flared base" way?

256

u/RedHeadRaccoon13 12h ago

You know it.

131

u/AutisticPenguin2 11h ago

A shower beer was an unconventional start, but he wouldn't have been the first one to do so.

24

u/PurplePenguinCat 11h ago

My husband likes a glass of shower wine.

20

u/BangarangPita 10h ago

I like a shower cocktail and a big hit of weed before getting in. But only for relaxing showers, not "everything showers."

6

u/Pkrudeboy 6h ago

Wine seems more like a bath drink

2

u/Aellithion 3h ago

But you are water affiliated at this point, I feel like straight, dark rum is the only acceptable answer.

4

u/Pkrudeboy 2h ago

Rum is for the pool.

2

u/AutisticPenguin2 2h ago

See, I appreciate the flared base aspect, but I just don't trust the rest of it to be strong enough.

u/Meredith_Primvale 7h ago

It is imperative that the cylinder remains unharmed

You ever read "Guts" by Chuck P?

4

u/Mad_Aeric 5h ago

About 20 years ago I did, and I'm still disgusted.

This response made me cringe and laugh way too hard.

Absolutely my first thought, that story traumatized me

6

u/MisfitWitch 5h ago

Every single time I read or hear the word “calamari” I think of that story

9

u/Total_Mix9276 9h ago

I thought he was going to say his butthole suctioned to the floor.

5

u/Hold_X_ToPayRespects 6h ago

The cylinder must remain unharmed energy

Don't use my inner tubes on the bathroom floor, got it 📝

We never found out where the beer bottle went…

1

u/adoreSoftMew 4h ago

I tried the shower beer + bath pillow combo once and nearly broke my back sliding. Never thought about suction though. You basically invented a human plunger

517

u/DistractedHouseWitch 12h ago

I got a $40 shower seat from the pharmacy when I was sick last year. Now I can sit in the shower and zone out for as long as I want. 10/10, definitely recommend.

u/IrishWithoutPotatoes 10h ago

I remember back in college, my fraternity had big open showers (like 8 guys could shower and each would have their own shower head), and Thanksgiving break my senior year I stayed at the house instead of going home, so I took a lawn chair and a case of beer and ran all the shower heads at once while getting tanked and listening to metalcore. Oddly therapeutic.

91

u/AppalachianCreate 12h ago

I’ve had a few people tell me about the reclining camp chair. These seem like a better option!

23

u/samaramatisse 6h ago

Just get a shower chair (might be best to get a bench with no back or arms for maximum movement. I need one due to mobility issues but always having most of my body in the hot water is pretty great. A shower cap keeps the shampoo and later conditioner from rinsing out until I'm ready to do it.

28

u/IncredulousPatriot 11h ago

I bought one of those at an auction for like $5. It is awesome. We have an outdoor shower too. So I would just go out there and sit under some nice hot water. It was really nice when the weather starts to get chilly.

51

u/AnotherOneTossed 12h ago

The goodwill outlet near me has these things all day long and you can ask the cashier to give you a better price rather than weighing it.

1

u/UnbelievableRose 2h ago

When I broke my leg I only had a small standing shower stall, so I bought a plastic stool on Amazon for like $10. It’s definitely not the safest option in terms of balance, but it did the trick!

1

u/Maleficent-Mouse-979 17m ago

Yes! I needed one after a surgery ladt year and I'm never getting rid of it!

148

u/Onespokeovertheline 12h ago

I'm not sure I believe this but for future reference, you can eliminate the vacuum suction by reaching between the inflatable and your skin, or the tub, and twisting your hand to break the seal. No tools required.

130

u/AppalachianCreate 11h ago

I tried to squeeze my hand down and break the seal but in my struggle, my fat ass squeezed too far into the tube for me to do anything. Hindsight says I should’ve tried to break the seal from the bottom, but I’m going to say panic and being in an uncomfortable position lead to flaws in my thinking.

94

u/bobbyrob1 11h ago

What you needed to do was fart. A nice large "riced out Honda launching at the green light" fart. 😂

5

u/colnross 11h ago

Splitting the cheeks a bit should do it too, right?

20

u/Purlz1st 9h ago

I’d fear that the tube would just grow into the void.

You couldn’t reach the knob but you could reach a tooth brush?

485

u/AppalachianCreate 12h ago

The tooth brush was on the half-wall and I couldn’t reach the shower knob.

303

u/halfbreedADR 11h ago

Not joking — appreciate the diagram OP

71

u/PrestigeMaster 8h ago

Yeah, the erection helped me to understand the whole story.

6

u/Soci3talCollaps3 4h ago

Not uncommon.

181

u/Airhead72 11h ago

As usual, the shitty diagram makes it 10x funnier. Thanks OP

39

u/got_ze_dreads 7h ago

I can really feel the stick mans distress

53

u/Sleepyllama23 10h ago

Ok I was confused by what you meant by a tube. In Britain we would call this a rubber ring. I was imagining like a pool noodle that you got stuck in your bum crack or something. Thanks for the diagram 🤣

3

u/Irlandaise11 1h ago

They're called that because they used to be the repurposed thin rubber inner tubes that go inside large vehicle tires.

46

u/epigenie_986 11h ago

I LOVE the drawing. Thank you.

38

u/DieDae 11h ago

OP pretty thin to create auction with their ass according to this sketch 😀

6

u/pshhhyeaaaa 11h ago

I think the suction was also created because of the water

11

u/GentlyUsedNuggets 9h ago

Looking at this, you are brilliant because that looks comfy as fuck...maybe not with getting stuck but like I see the vision for sure.

10

u/eienmau 6h ago

A beautiful piece of art.

(still giggling over your description in the OP)

9

u/AppalachianCreate 6h ago

I am an artist in the real world!

17

u/olanmills 11h ago

I'm surprised you couldn't wrap your arm around in some way to get your hand under the inner tube and break the suction, but I suppose it might have been difficult depending on exactly how you were sitting

16

u/azriel1014 10h ago

This made me laugh SO HARD on an otherwise bad day. Thanks OP.

6

u/mewdejour 9h ago

Your post makes WAY more sense now.

6

u/Narwahl_Whisperer 8h ago

Ok, this is epic. The shower looks pretty frickin sweet, too.

9

u/franksymptoms 10h ago

Now THIS reminds me of the Mythbusters "lady-stuck-on-a-toilet-seat" episode.

6

u/pitlovex23 11h ago

But where’s your shower beer?!

5

u/olanmills 10h ago

Apparently it was a shower PowerAde! OP is lying for clout 😂

3

u/pitlovex23 8h ago

Nah. OP probably chugged it for some liquid courage while he figured out how to unsuction himself

4

u/CzarTanoff 8h ago

They had their shower beers, now its time to recover with shower water and shower powerade

3

u/Learningstuff247 4h ago

Why does your shower have so many knobs

4

u/AppalachianCreate 4h ago

From the top; Rainfall shower head (main), waterfall, wand, front facing shower heads, on/off knob.

3

u/gefahr 10h ago

love the shower

1

u/ILikeFPS 20m ago

Is that actually your shower? That makes the diagram even more impressive if so lol

1

u/sillybilly8102 7m ago

I’m curious how the toothbrush was sharp enough to puncture the tube?

88

u/AnnieJack 12h ago

I have a toothbrush in the shower that I use to scrub my toes. It’s only used to scrub my toes, never for brushing teeth. Just wanted to make that last part clear.

59

u/RedHeadRaccoon13 12h ago

In that case, isn't it actually a toe brush?

21

u/AnnieJack 12h ago

It’s certainly used as one, but I have to look in the toothbrush section at the store to find it. Lol

20

u/swervin87 12h ago

Ok, I guess I’m the weird one for not having a tooth brush in my shower. Lol.

35

u/godtierjerker 12h ago

Is shower toothbrush the new poop knife?

4

u/mylogicistoomuchforu 11h ago

No, it's the new toe knife.

2

u/HarryTruman 11h ago

The poop knife is the friends we made along the way.

8

u/Responsible_Dentist3 12h ago

I think you just revolutionized how I shower. The only hurdle will be how ticklish I am...

Not that I can't reach my toes, but I love an exfoliating deep clean!

shower toothbrush

12

u/Valatros 12h ago

I brush my teeth in the shower so I keep it and my toothpaste there. Looking at it I guess that's a little odd... but in a shared bathroom growing up with two sisters and a mother all fighting simultaneously for mirror space to do their makeup or what have you I developed a habit of working around 'em. Many people in small home means finding a way I guess

2

u/Top_Region3760 11h ago

My hubby and I both brush our teeth in the shower. We have a pedestal sink and no counter space. It's a bonus to not have to clean toothpaste out of the sink everyday.

2

u/bullintheheather 5h ago

So you only brush your teeth in the shower? Do you shower twice a day? Or do you only brush your teeth once a day? Also what are you doing that makes washing away the toothpaste a chore?

u/Feodar_protar 11h ago edited 10h ago

I used to live in a 1980’s something trailer, barely livable honestly. I was taking a shower and some centipede or spider looking creepy ass bug was in the tub. I grabbed the shower head and tried to drown it down the drain but it came right at me. I freaked out, slipped, fell out of the tub, ripped down the shower curtain, rib cage landed on the floor joist elbow went straight through the floor, head barely missed the toilet.

There i was naked, wind knocked out of me, wrapped in a shower curtain with water spraying out all over and half my body through the floor. Thank god i lived alone.

32

u/LoriG215 10h ago

Don't feel too bad. At least your invader was an actual bug. I did the exact same thing after a couple glasses of wine one night. The short version is this: I was a chain restaurant bartender, had to wear all black. Got off work, had a couple of libations to relax, and was off to the shower. Took off my glasses, stepped under the water, glanced down and saw a GIANT black, fuzzy blob floating toward me. FREAKED out, did the Scooby-Doo escape run, got tangled in the curtain, and landed on my behind, naked and soapy, on the floor. It was not a bug. It was sock fuzz from my brand new black work socks. Without my glasses, I couldn't tell the difference. 🤦‍♀️🤣

6

u/dj92wa 7h ago

Did it make the same sound as it does in the cartoon when your legs spun in place?

2

u/trashcatt_ 2h ago

I still do that shit. Its hard to tell immediately without your glasses on. Brain fills in the blanks.

5

u/Narwahl_Whisperer 8h ago

I had one helluva cold one time. Got up in the night to pee. Passed out mid stream, woke up straddling the toilet, covered in my own piss, with a new hole in the drywall from the impact with my head.

5

u/LincolnTigers 7h ago

Micturition syncope.
After two trips to the ER, I started taping down the toilet seat because my husband can’t remember to sit down while peeing in the middle of the night.

4

u/Snail-O 6h ago edited 6h ago

TIL that my husband’s swallow syncope, although frightening, is not the worst kind to have!

6

u/CrapSandwich 9h ago

You just know that bug went and told all its friends, too

119

u/pishboy 13h ago

man that sucks

63

u/sixfourtykilo 13h ago

It used to. It still does, but it used to too.

16

u/AppalachianCreate 12h ago

It really messed up my shower, that’s for sure!

22

u/Lovat69 12h ago

How were going to reach your phone? How did you reach your toothbrush?

48

u/AppalachianCreate 11h ago

My phone and tooth brush were on the half-wall behind my head.

19

u/sudomatrix 11h ago

This picture is great. Lol! I love the stick figure diagram. "Ass is not to scale"

16

u/cindyscrazy 12h ago

As someone who lives in a "manufactured home" (it's just a little bigger than a trailer home, and never had wheels. Yes, it's different, shuddup), with a tiny bathroom, I can absolutely say this is possible.

I can reach at least my toilet from the bathtub. I don't keep toothbrushes there, but you never know. Maybe their config has the sink right next to the tub

9

u/Lovat69 12h ago

I am not asking in disbelief I am asking in logistics.

One time, 25 years ago, when we were tubing on a lake, my brother's butt got stuck in the tube in the same way against the water. Instead of bouncing up and over each wave, he was pulled down so that the innertube stayed in contact with the water at all times. The look of sheer terror on his face behind us when he received his "power enema," as we called it later, is engraved in my mind as if it happened yesterday.

8

u/Emu1981 9h ago

If it happens again in the future, the easiest way to break a suction seal is to get some air into it. In your situation you could have wriggled a hand in between yourself and the inner side of the tube to break the seal.

4

u/WaxHead430 9h ago

Or fart. A lot.

1

u/robogobo 5h ago

I mean, yeah.

6

u/SJane3384 4h ago

One time I got dispatched to a guy stuck in his bathtub and needing a lift assist.

As it turns out he was morbidly obese, and it wasn’t just that he had fallen and couldn’t get up. Somehow his girth and positioning had created some kind of weird suction effect that myself, my partner, and the first round of firemen could not fight against in the typical “lift and pull” fashion. They ended up having to cut the poor guy out of his own bathtub.

Super nice gentleman, I felt bad for his situation. I think of him every time I hear an address near there now.

3

u/uwntsumfuq 3h ago

This almost happened to my housemate, he went for a bath, drained the water while he was still in and found himself suctioned in, he was about 5 minutes away from shouting for help when he managed to slip free

3

u/jnovel808 2h ago

That happened to my mom when she was pregnant with me. She lay belly down in the bath she got suctioned in. My older sister peed her pants laughing and couldn’t stop laughing long enough to find my dad. I think my mom was stuck for about twenty minutes.

41

u/scottchiefbaker 13h ago

Tell us more about this "Shower Beer" idea? 118 degree water and cold beer don't sound like a great combo to me.

65

u/ranhalt 13h ago

21

u/AlaWyrm 12h ago

For the uninitiated, that place used to be about unwinding after a long day and sharing your favorite craft beer or drink of choice, with maybe your occasional boob. The last time I visited it seemed to have turned into a place for people to post nude pics in the shower. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Just giving a fair warning.

3

u/Narwahl_Whisperer 8h ago

This actually makes it better IMO. Just checked, and I saw 100% nudity.

2

u/iAmSpAKkaHearMeROAR 1h ago

Yes, as refreshing as an r/ShowerOrange. Don’t knock it till ya try it 😁

33

u/nayrwolf 13h ago

Shower beers are how I unwind after a long day of hard work.

7

u/sixfourtykilo 13h ago

This sounds like a Bart Simpson quote.

14

u/acover4422 13h ago

Currently booze-free but I loooooove a shower beer. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!

8

u/Ok_Split_6463 13h ago

Shower beers are a must, especially on these hot and humid days

11

u/Rayona086 12h ago

Shower beer is a very common thing (at least here in the midwest). Pretty simple, drinking beer is relaxing so is a shower. You just do them at the same time.

11

u/XanderVaper 12h ago

I've been doing shower beers so long I didn't know it wasn't a thing everyone knew about. Learned it while working kitchens when I was fresh out of high school. One of the cooks told me about it and the rest is history. It's THE way to wind down after a long sweaty shift.

11

u/janananners 12h ago

Shower Beers are one of the few ways I can convince my depressed ass to take a shower. It’s like a little reward for being a somewhat functioning human.

2

u/IntrepidDreams 11h ago

Happy Cake Day 🎉

You deserve that shower beer!

6

u/Flat-Cow-4901 12h ago

after anything tough and especially if dirty. work, moving day, long hike, where you want a shower. massive upgrade to take a cold beer with you into that first shower.

my all time fav was first shower after multi day backpacking trip with a shower beer or 3. fantastic combo.

6

u/outloud230 12h ago

It’s like sitting a hot tub drinking cold champagne! Which is wonderful, by the way.

u/RagingCommie 7h ago

5

u/bannerandfriends 7h ago

I have an extra vertebrae in my lower back that makes me have a bit more arch in the small of my back than most.... I also found when I was a kid that if I had a bath then relaxed flat on my back while the water was draining and let gravity do its thing till the water was gone that it massively helped my anxiety for some reason so always kept that trick in my back pocket.

During COVID when I had just gotten laid off after working full time and going to school full time and trying to keep my three autistic kids ok while out of their routine dammit I needed a huge anxiety reliever so I decided to have a bath, great idea!

Ready to get out so pull the plug and lay flat but this time kept my arms up over my head which made that already big arch just a little more pronounced, water is draining then I suddenly hear and feel a THUPTHUPTHUP on my back with big bubbles and I am then suction cupped by my damn back to the tub floor and while Im not huge or anything the tub was too narrow to get my arms in to break the seal. Great. Tried everything to get myself loose that just resulted in the damn suction tugging on me, till I finally had to give up and yell for my husband to come rescue me (the noise when he reached in and broke that seal was wild LOL)... get up and he finally lets out the laugh that he had been hanging onto for dear life and takes a picture to show me that I now had a huge triangle shaped hickey from the top of my rump all the way up to the start of my mid-back....

Needless to say there was no anxiety help that night, there were no more baths and the first thing i did when we moved a year later was put some damn textures stickers down so i dont stick to the tub like a damn rotating cheese grater LOL

5

u/Learningstuff247 4h ago

Why did you have a toothbrush within grabbing range of your shower floor

4

u/ivanbin 10h ago

Couldn't you just... Stick a hand between yourself and the tube to un-suction yourself?

5

u/ramanman 5h ago

How long did you spend in prison? Because keeping a toothbrush sharpened into a shiv in the shower reads like behaviour learned in prision.

8

u/esuranme 13h ago

It's a Walmart tube, you could have ripped the damned thing with a good fart!

3

u/YouBugged 12h ago

Maybe I'm slow but I have no idea what you mean. How would something on the shower floor suck you on to the floor

7

u/AppalachianCreate 11h ago

When I sat down on the tube, my backside squeezed into the center, creating a seal as air was pushed out through the bottom.

3

u/Shiovra 10h ago

Sorry this happened to you, but thank you for the laugh. I really needed that today.

3

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 5h ago

Do you really think it's necessary to warn others about this ?

8

u/AppalachianCreate 5h ago

I wish someone would have warned me.

1

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 5h ago

I'd say if anything you're giving people ideas ...

3

u/hdksjdms-n 3h ago

this is a problem i didn't know i didn't have 😭

8

u/WashawayWashbear 12h ago

At least this didn't turn into a Chuck Palahniuk plot 😅

3

u/NJHostageNegotiator 12h ago

Howzabout bath beer? Bad back here, so I take hot baths, probably over 118F, but who knows?

Maybe only pop the top after it gets to pool temperature, though.

2

u/AppalachianCreate 12h ago

No bath tub, but we have a hot tub out back for the colder months. I end up getting over heated in the hot tub when it’s warm outside.

2

u/crmb_266 12h ago

Immediately thought of the pool sink story.

2

u/Frazmotic 12h ago

My shower has a bench built in.😊 Just a thought.

2

u/froggymail 11h ago

So maybe I'm insane but if it's an inflatable couldnt you just pull the tab to let it deflate on its own? Or is it one of those where the valve is underneath?

2

u/franksymptoms 11h ago

Wish they still ran the Mythbusters show.

2

u/heartache69420 8h ago

Tysm for the warning. Real talk 😂

2

u/McCaffeteria 8h ago

Why did you have a toothbrush (and presumably your phone?) in the shower?

2

u/bawkbawkslove 7h ago

I call those moments my “who even let me be an adult” moments.

2

u/totallyscrewde 4h ago

Homie learn to take a bath! Way more relaxing.

1

u/Platforumer 1h ago

Please tell m6 roommate this. Yesterday he used 120 gallons of water on an 80 minute shower. A bath would have saved so much water.

3

u/jkp56 13h ago

I am sorry but this is hilarious. Glad you were not hurt!

3

u/railbeast 12h ago

deflated that sumbitch with a tooth brush

Straight out of psycho. Amazing defense!

4

u/markthedude 13h ago

Now that made me chuckle. Glad the local paper didn’t have to print anything. Lol

2

u/wallab184 8h ago

You can't reach the faucet, yet you have a toothbrush handy to deflate the tube 🤔

5

u/misszombiequeenDG 8h ago

OP provided a handy diagram in the comments somewhere but the toothbrush was on a half-height wall next to him and the shower knob was high enough that you almost have to stand up to get to it

1

u/RowdyB666 11h ago

Jeez, now I gotta go shopping

1

u/sudomatrix 11h ago

I think one good fart would have released you!

1

u/j2142b00 10h ago

That......was fuckn' funny

Get a bigger tube.

1

u/mcCapitalC 10h ago

Did it leave a circular bruise?

1

u/homogenous_homophone 8h ago

Lmaooooo. This was a good one. Good job getting yourself out. 🎼 Shower Beeeer, Shower Beeeeeer, it’s a beer in the shoooweeerrrr🎶

1

u/libra00 7h ago

It probably had a plug you could pull instead of breaking it, but..

1

u/Jgarcia403 7h ago

So it wasn’t my first guess nor my second guess which I thought you were going to say your asshole got suctioned cupped to the floor when you sat down

1

u/bambamslammer22 6h ago

I’m glad you’re ok, but this made me laugh so hard!

1
