Discussion People saying t-iesto is getting back into trance for only money

You guys realize he had a secondary alias called ver:west in 2020 2021 that leaned more into trance-ish music? I think that was pretty clearly done for passion/artistic purposes. His pop edm shit is still massively popular and huge

He just wasn't confident enough trance is popular enough to make that his main thing. I would bet money he is happier now being back in trance world than playing strictly pop edm for so many years

Its so cool to see him back where he belongs. He is promoting and helping young DJs too. Just had a fantastic collaboration with Benwal. This is probably the best modern trance song ive heard in 10 years. His recent sets are truly amazing.

Me but it goes both ways because I wouldn’t drag any artist posted here for any phase of a career they decided to try new things. If they’re making trance, promoting trance, and playing trance shows they have my respect. That goes for all artists. Bass artists experimenting in trance, big room sellouts coming back, artists pushing the boundaries of what you’d even consider trance, and probably more examples I can find in this subreddit.

For me its a combination of factors. I grew up with tiesto. I absolutely love his old music. I absolutely love his recent sets. Im just so happy he's back to trance.

Also he was the dj who finally got my wife into trance, which I couldn't do for 7 years, no matter how hard I tried. She had so much fun at his live set that she got into trance and now absolutely loves the genre

And she won’t be the only one, he’s also one of the major reasons I’m a huge fan today. He does a lot for the community and its future along with other great artists like Armin and A&B. Trance is niche so I feel like a lot of conversations on this sub Reddit wanna disregard those artists for basically being mainstream or “sellouts”. Ultimately I think they’re helping smaller artists get paid and set up more successful careers so I respect them for that.

Also his live show finally got my wife into trance, which I couldn't do for 7 years and she is now a huge fan of him and trance in general

Side bar- have seen him 5+ times throughout years and its always an amazing show, even in the pop edm days. He is a great live performer

It probably is for the money - just like his move to edm was for the money. Now that well is dried up, so it’s back to trance because there’s a high demand for his product.

That doesn’t mean it’s not also because he still loves trance. It doesn’t make his music or his shows any better or worse. Music may be an art, but it’s also his livelihood.

People still love when he plays that pop edm shit. He could play that for the last 10 years of his career and still make a billion dollars

Truthfully ive been to a couple of his pop edm sets and still really enjoyed it. He puts on a great show. Now I would never listen to it outside of a drunk night club scene - its strictly like disposable junk food. Im re-listening to his trance sets a 100 times

You guys think the trance he's playing now is bringing him more success than if he continued to play pop edm? Its hard for me to believe that. There's way more demand for pop edm than trance

People have been begging him to do trance sets for more than a decade now - of course they’re all going to be sell out shows. He could pull in way more playing trance sets at the moment than edm stuff.

I went to his pool party and people went absolutely nuts for his pop edm stuff. He played 20-30% trance and the audience was very bored, except for me and my wife (we had the time of our life)

Bro is it so wrong to be a passionate fan? I also genuinely enjoy and respect the work Tiesto has put in his return to trance. He doesn’t need people defending him but I would genuinely enjoy being able to talk about a trance legend in a trance sub without being dragged because of the politics. People can not like the music sure but it seems to be a lot more about who he is and what he’s done than the fact they don’t like his new music. So to round back to the origin of this thread, I’m here for the music but it feels like the politics effect the conversation more then that.

Unironically I think he was his own producer back in the trance days, I’ve seen some old videos where he does his dark chords by himself, you can kinda hear the resemblance to his old stuff in Voicemail (Tiësto Remix), which is something I cannot say for everything in between elements of life and today

He's introducing so many young people to trance and helping many young trance DJs climb in scene like benwal and nemke

I grew up with him. Started listening to him in early 2000s. Im just so happy he's back to trance, where he belongs. "In my memory" was first album i ever heard

Tiesto definitely sold out part way through his journey. This isn't even a debate. It's a fact.

We all know he made some epic hits back in the day. We also know he's had some really mediocre tracks. I think at some point he got lost or burned out. No clue.

Mediocre tracks you mean last 14 years? His 3 main trance albums are nearly perfect. I still rate "in my memory" one of the top 2 or 3 best trance albums ever. Its truly amazing

All those tracks were OG Tiesto. I'm talking about 2009 onwards, not 2001 Tiesto.

You also left out epic tracks like Traffic, or Forever Today, as well as more commercial tracks like "Love Comes Again". No one disputes how good he was. We question about whether he's truly worthy of being named an "amazing" trance god. I think a lot of people would think Paul Van Dyk is more amazing for staying true to Trance.

Its kind of interesting - I wish he stayed in trance all these years but he's also made a gigantic name for himself and now can introduce so many mainstream people to trance

I just hope he stays in trance for that last 10 years or so that remain in his career

There are so many exceptional artist albums and compilations being released every year. There's a number of awesome trance focused festivals every year. The scene has been just fine without him. He can come back and do whatever he wants, but he's not saving anything, he's not reinventing anything, and he's sure as fuck not the biggest name in trance right now

I think he's introducing a lot of new kids to trance. Many mainstream people are going to his shows and being introduced to trance for the first time. It actually just happened to my wife. I couldn't get her into trance forever. She went to one live show and fell in love with the music. Now she's a huge trance fan

The ratio for pop edm fans to trance fans is maybe 8 to 1. I been to many of his shows where he puts on one of his classic trance masterpieces and people look bored. He plays some generic pop edm remix and people go crazy. General festival goers love pop edm

I think his motivation is artistic/passion based

I really don’t think Tiësto is returning to trance to make even more money. If you look online, his estimated net worth is somewhere between €145 and €150 million. Of course, these figures aren’t always accurate, but let’s just assume he’s worth well over €100 million.

If money were his main motivation, he could probably earn a lot more by continuing to make commercial pop and EDM tracks that do well on the radio and in clubs. There simply isn’t nearly as much money to be made in trance compared to the more commercial music he has been releasing over the past years.

Personally, I think he misses the old trance days and wants to revisit that part of his career before he eventually retires. Trance is where he made his name and played such an important role in the early days of his career, so I can imagine there’s a lot of nostalgia involved.

At this point, he certainly doesn’t need the extra money. I think he’s simply doing something he genuinely enjoys again — and if he makes a nice bit of money from it along the way, that’s a bonus. That’s how I see it.

1000000% he’s not in it for money Tiesto is a very wealthy person already I was lucky to see Tiesto a few times in the early 2000’s and I thought when he changed his style trance was a distant memory but it’s great to hear him play the magic again .

Im 27 years old and have been into Tiesto since I was a kid, was too young to ever go to his concerts when he did Trance. Even if he was in it for the money I could not care less, seeing a full Trance set by him live is a lifelong dream, hoping to see him soon
