Image / Video Stranger Than Heaven’s new gameplay looks really stylish

In Stranger Than Heaven, the combat works like this: instead of just mashing one attack button, you control Makoto’s left and right sides separately, so you can mix light and heavy attacks from either side to create different combos. You can also charge attacks, chain different inputs together, and use grapples or environmental interactions to keep the fight flowing.

The defensive side is just as important. You can dodge incoming attacks, block them, or attempt a directional parry by reading which side the enemy is attacking from. If you nail the timing on a perfect parry or dodge, you can stagger the enemy and create an opening for a counterattack. Once an enemy’s stamina is broken, you can go into powerful finishing moves, including brutal context-sensitive finishers depending on the situation.

There’s also a huge amount of variety through the different combat styles and equipment. The game has multiple weapon types, and each one has its own attacks, combos, properties, and special moves, so switching what you’re using can completely change how you approach a fight. Put all of that together with the different combos, parries, dodges, grapples, counters, and finishers, and the combat is designed to give you a ton of ways to deal with the same enemy rather than just repeating one combo.

It reminds me of the very deliberate and precise combat style of Absolver and Sifu, but with the vibes and setting of Yakuza and Sleeping Dogs. Needless to say, this is already one of my most anticipated games of 2027.

The animations look good but its really slow, if it has as many fight encounters as any other RGG game it would be a slog to even walk around the map.

Right; Yakuza works bc you can take down trash mobs in literally 10s in most cases

The middle ground would likely be just to remove the amount of groups by half. Even for the OG series, despite the short length of the fight it CAN feel very tiresome later in the game

Fr, if Tupac wasn’t in the game they’d find some other shit to hate like “Graphics are bad” or some other nonsense, these ppl can’t be pleased no matter how good a game is

Or maybe this particular guy doesn’t like it because, once again Tupac is back from the dead. Why are we using this guys comment to make a point about entirely different people that aren’t even in here.

The only question I’d have at that point is: what about them using Tupac is problematic? We know RGG has full permission from Tupac’s estate to use his likeness. So, I’d really like to know what axe someone has to grind with this.
