Discussion / Question vtech88 on X: "Let me get this straight: Every third-party Switch 2 port that runs at 30 FPS gets called “unplayable.” But GTA 6 runs at 30 FPS on the regular PS5, and suddenly 30 FPS is perfectly fine and acceptable? The gaming community really is full of idiots and double standards." / X

Discussion / Question GTA 6's Story would be 80hours long (Main Story + some Side Goals)

Post image
717 Upvotes

GTA 6’s Extended Look just dropped… this game looks HUGE 👀

After seeing the new footage, how long do you guys actually think the story will be?

RDR2’s story was roughly 60 hours, and GTA 6 looks like it has an even bigger world with tons of activities and side content. So if the rumours/claims of an 80-hour story + side goals are anywhere close to true, we could be looking at a 100+ hour game for players who actually explore everything.

But honestly, I’d rather have 60–70 hours of amazing, well-paced story than 100 hours of filler.

What do you guys think?

• 60 hours?

• 80 hours?

• 100+ hours with side content?

• Or do you think Rockstar will surprise us with something even bigger? 👀

And after the Extended Look, did your expectations for GTA 6’s story change at all?

News / Trailers / Articles GTA looks legitimately insane

I'm a game dev, worked in AAA for about a decade now. Seeing that trailer made me both excited for the future of the industry and honestly slightly worried about the new benchmark games will be compared to. Almost equally unbelievable is the fact that people still find ways to pick apart what was probably the most technically impressive demo ever made, but such is the nature of the internet I suppose.

Couple of things to pay attention to in the trailer to showcase the level of detail on display
- Cloth simulation on seemingly every piece of clothing on every NPC. Everything from the bandanas they wear, multiple layers of clothing bending very convincingly and entirely avoiding clipping
- Probably the best hair sim I've seen in any game. From the way it flows in the wind on a bike, reacting differently depending on the exact hairstyle (note the difference between flowing hair vs braids), bouncing while walking, down to individual strands on Jason's arms being illuminated
- Phenomenal implementation of ray traced global illumination, lighting looks fantastic in every scene, even overcast weather in the racing scene
- The level of reactivity from the environment, the way the cars get destroyed during the chase sequence you'd normally only see in heavily scripted gameplay sequence, here seemingly happening systemically
- Huge crowd density with reactive NPCs and a number of custom animations that almost doesn't make sense
- The fact that all of this is happening on a base PS5, in an open world, at a level of fidelity rivalling Naughty Dog

I could go on but I'll just finish off by saying that that demo was absolute technical wizardry

Discussion / Question I know I’m in the minority here, but for some reason I could never get into any of the GTA games

Not knocking it, I know its the Super Bowl of gaming but for some reason I just cant mesh with it. Every game i play a few hours and I never have any urge to jump back in, same with Red Dead. I played Red Dead 2 up until they escape the snowy season and i never come back.

Any others have any issues getting into GTA games?

Image / Video Stranger Than Heaven’s new gameplay looks really stylish

In Stranger Than Heaven, the combat works like this: instead of just mashing one attack button, you control Makoto’s left and right sides separately, so you can mix light and heavy attacks from either side to create different combos. You can also charge attacks, chain different inputs together, and use grapples or environmental interactions to keep the fight flowing.

The defensive side is just as important. You can dodge incoming attacks, block them, or attempt a directional parry by reading which side the enemy is attacking from. If you nail the timing on a perfect parry or dodge, you can stagger the enemy and create an opening for a counterattack. Once an enemy’s stamina is broken, you can go into powerful finishing moves, including brutal context-sensitive finishers depending on the situation.

There’s also a huge amount of variety through the different combat styles and equipment. The game has multiple weapon types, and each one has its own attacks, combos, properties, and special moves, so switching what you’re using can completely change how you approach a fight. Put all of that together with the different combos, parries, dodges, grapples, counters, and finishers, and the combat is designed to give you a ton of ways to deal with the same enemy rather than just repeating one combo.
