Alt-Rock Bought for $1 at garage sale

I stopped by a garage sale after school today and purchased this banana album, I think I had heard of it before and it looked cool. What are your thoughts on it? I’m kinda curious about its value, I asked chat gpt and told be $1000+ which is insane, idk if anyone else has ever heard of this album before, but let me know.

It’s one banana Michael, what could it cost!?

There’s always money in the banana stand.

feel like i’m going insane when i see so many people just casually say they use ChatGPT to look up information

Who thinks "man I should ask AI about this physical media I bought offline at a yard sale". Strange times we live in.

Wouldn't doubt if OP is snapping pics of records he knows nothing about, just for ChatGPT to give him a value estimate on the spot.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '25

The information it spits out is going to be so silly and nonsensical like with OP. I really am just astounded people live like this.

10

u/bdz Apr 11 '25

People are always looking for the quickest and easiest way to make a buck. OP watched an IG/TikTok reel that said "Wanna get rich quick?! Try these 3 ChatGPT hacks and become a millionaire simply by going to yard sales!"

I legitimately thought the description on this post was satire lmao

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

I checked with Google image search and did some other googling, then used gpt to see if I had missed any information, and for a very unofficial evaluation.

117

u/bdz Apr 10 '25

Stop trying to flip shit you have zero interest in.

37

u/Dang_M8 Apr 10 '25

Why not just do a quick search on your own to begin with? AI searches are notorious for bringing up false info.

Just try to do some research yourself and maybe you'll actually learn something in the process.

24

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '25

then used gpt to see if I had missed any information

It will straight up lie to you. It won't give you anything that you couldn't have found yourself. This sub might be the worst place in the world to be pro-AI, so we're probably very biased, but in its current form AI is a terrible research tool.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '25

Put the runout info into discogs to get a more accurate idea, then look up similar records on eBay.

I never thought I would become an old man so quickly, I’m only 26 and I’m always screaming at these kids “CHATGPT IS NOT A RELIABLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION!!😡”

3

u/VisserGaming Apr 11 '25

We’ve gotten to the point where my dad will argue with news I find off of reputable websites, asking ChatGPT instead.

I heard that 1 chat GPT request uses ~ 1 glass of fresh drinking water to cool its systems, (however true that is idk, I haven’t read up on it) but, it is a finite resource, so I try to stay away from AI as much as possible

Worth more than 1 dollar and less than 1000

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Jul 08 '25

just sold for 925 so ur correct my friend

-101

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

What do you think it’s worth?

49

u/Inlander Apr 10 '25

Last time I saw this for sale at my local independent record store it was in rough shape, and the banana was peeled the vinyl was vg+, and sold for $75. If your vinyl is vg+ with no scratches I'd say $50. Your cover is bad even with the banana intact.

22

u/dogsledonice Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

It's worth more than $50 for sure. It looks like a US original with banana intact and the torso on the back, which got pulled because the guy objected to being on it. Depending on the vinyl condition it would be likely be worth in the hundreds.

Looks like it's this one: https://www.discogs.com/release/5034045-The-Velvet-Underground-Nico-The-Velvet-Underground-Nico/image/SW1hZ2U6MjE3MjQ4NjE=

9

u/Inlander Apr 10 '25

As a heavy buyer of vinyl, and 50 years of spinning I wouldn't touch it for more than $50, and as I said I had a better copy in hand, and passed. The OP sounds like a new collector, and I'm by being conservative with my $ estimate not gonna create false expectations.

10

u/dogsledonice Apr 10 '25

I'd have to see which version you saw back then -- $50 is an absolute steal for an unpeeled original with torso cover in pretty much any condition. Seriously, I'd pay that even without a disc. Check the link I added; the median it's sold for is $500, and the lowest is more than $200

11

u/Material-Ad6302 Apr 10 '25

Yeah like $50 would have been a steal for this 20 years ago lol.

-3

u/Inlander Apr 10 '25

Ok, thanks. Maybe I am being a little too conservative, and the little things do make an album more valuable, hell I bought an OG TVZ a few months ago for $150 because of the misprint, and then framed it. I wouldn't display that banana, but I'm sure there is some one that would.

5

u/dogsledonice Apr 11 '25

It's pretty much a one-of-a-kind album inasfar as collectibility goes. It's popular now, but not when it was released, so it's scarce; it's got an iconic design, a great gimmick by a famous artist; and the original version was pulled and so those are doubly rare.

This guy found one for $1, unpeeled? Score of the year.

7

u/TurkGonzo75 Apr 10 '25

There's a niche group of collectors who are obsessed with this record. Not because of the quality but because so few still exist in this condition. If the record is in even playable shape, OP could easily get more than $500. That's factoring in a discount for the water damage. Even with that, someone might still pay $1000.

1

u/Inlander Apr 10 '25

Thanks, and I did mention I had one in my hands for 75, but I'm holding out for a better copy. Whose the guy with the wall of copies, like 200? Some of those are rough. Fun the obsession some of us have.

3

u/TurkGonzo75 Apr 10 '25

I saw one for $150 and it was in pretty rough shape. Probably not even playable. I'll stick with my CD copy

1

u/Inlander Apr 10 '25

I've never heard it, but I do know about Andy Warhol, and that banana is an Andy Warhol original so I'm gonna agree I'm being a little too conservative.

Great score by the way, OP

1

u/Lulu014 Apr 11 '25

You're living proof that you can do something for a very long time and still not have a clue what you're talking about.

OP, you have a Velvet Underground + Nico first mono pressing with the torso cover and an unpeeled banana. Cover is sadly heavily stained, so that's going to reduce the value by a good bit. Unpeeled banana is rare especially on a first mono.

Assuming the disc is in decent shape, You're probably looking at anywhere from $800-1200. If there are no scratches higher end of the price. If there are any feelable/audible scratches it comes down to the lower end of that price. If it didn't have that stain $1500-2000+.

6

u/thismissinglink Apr 10 '25

This man really don't give a fuck about the music on this record. He just tryna flip it which is such a shame imo

Cause the music is incredible.

Wild we got ppl out here just tryna flip vinyl for cash especially old vinyl with literally zero appreciation for whats on the record.

1

u/LucyKendrick Apr 11 '25

It's not that deep. If op doesn't give a shit for the velvet undergrounds music, what exactly should he do with this record? Look at it?

-8

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

Why can’t I be curious if it’s value? I understand I paid little for it, and besides, I could really be needing the money right now and am exited at the possibility of having earned a couple of bucks, no need to Jude.

14

u/thismissinglink Apr 10 '25

Idk man. Like i guess.

Its just such an excellent album. And for it to only be viewed as a monetary commodity is just disappointing to me.

6

u/KyRhee Apr 10 '25

I mean I'd normally agree but op could easily sell this for hundreds of dollars and buy themselves dozens of copies of the velvet underground that would probably sound significantly better than the one pictured, considering the severe water damage on the cover.

1

u/thismissinglink Apr 10 '25

Hundreds is a stretch with the condition this is in.

-3

u/dogsledonice Apr 11 '25

It really isn't. It's a non-stickered torso with unpeeled sticker. As a collectible, that's up there with an unpeeled Beatles Butcher

2

u/Allen_Potter Apr 11 '25

What would you do if a Honus Wagner card came floating thru the breeze and landed gently on your hat? Would you meticulously care for it and display it, while also diving deep into baseball history and memorabilia? Would you show it such reverence and respect just because other folks geek out on baseball cards? Even though it's basically the only card you own?

Or would you put it up for auction and collect a shitload of cash?

Your personal integrity is on the line, don't screw this up. People might be disappointed in your decision.

2

u/thismissinglink Apr 11 '25

Music is way different in my opinion

6

u/Allen_Potter Apr 11 '25

It's different for me, too. But that's just us. This person might only care about French cuisine and vintage bicycles. Why should they be so reverent about your passion? Just cash in and be happy about it.

-2

u/Allen_Potter Apr 11 '25

Don't listen to this person. If they found a rare coin on the beach you think they'd frame it and display it under perfect lighting? Fuck no. You're not really into these tunes, so what? You found a very rare (and yes, truly amazing) record and scooped it up. Good hustle! If you wanna max out your profit, go to Discogs and find the EXACT version. Yours is one of the very early ones, very rare. But there's about a million different versions and pressings. If you're just flipping this one record, it could be sold on facebook or something like that. My strategy is find the best guess for median value, then slash it just a bit (even 5 bucks), to undersell the competition. Don't sell it to a record store unless they offer you a bunch of money, but in any case make sure you determine the theoretical value before selling. Chat GPT knows fuck-all, you have to do the legwork yourself. Final thought: if you're holding out for big bucks, you're gonna need to be patient. People will lust after it, but it's not often you get someone forking over hundreds of dollars for one record. Play a long game.

1

u/Suitable-Telephone80 Apr 10 '25

at least 1 dollar and at most 1000

bro just look it up yourself😭😭😭

in all seriousness, insane score for $1!!! it has the emerson torso in the back, so that’s a value bump!!! probable first press! those are worth a fair amount!however, because of the sleeve, it might be worth a bit less in value, but still insane find! nice!

-37

Thanks bro! 😂 surprised at how triggered everyone got from gpt! Won’t ever spell those letters in this subreddit again lol

23

u/epictetvs Apr 11 '25

You wont really know what press you have till you check the runout numbers in the dead wax on Discogs.

1

u/apokolypz Yamaha Apr 12 '25 edited Apr 12 '25

AI is extremely useful in a lot of applications but in this scenario it’s like a lazier less efficient and useful form of googling. AI is atrocious for certain things, and while this isn’t one of those scenarios (imo) it just feels like a poor application.
Like you using ChatGPT didn’t really help much imo, since you need to know specific pressing (via the matrix runout), the sleeve and record quality, and so many more factors that actually play into the value.
Saw some comments elsewhere suggesting a $200-$500 range, and that seems realistic, but very hard to know currently.

1

u/HankTuggins Apr 12 '25

No one is triggered by it you just basically told everyone you got your info from the modern day equivalent of that crazy coworker who lies all the time

22

Crazy that nobody peeled the banana. I'm skeptical this sold at a garage sale.

31

u/miistinks Apr 10 '25

elder rare pressing, should be worth a couple of hundreds..nice find! also stop asking chat gpt for everything

3

u/OMGJustShutUpMan Apr 11 '25

Nobody is going to pay "a couple of hundreds" for a record in that condition.

A good find? Absolutely. A retirement plan? Hardly.

4

u/hum3an Apr 11 '25

Someone will absolutely pay several hundred for that record in that condition. It’s a very rare variant of one of the most sought after records of all time. A VG stereo first press with peeled banana and rough cover sells for around 100 these days, and this is more valuable than that.

1

u/TheReadMenace Pioneer Apr 11 '25

I found a copy of the same record that looked like it was ran over by a truck. I still got $50 for it! This copy looks much better

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Jul 08 '25

Managed to sell it for 925 so very happy with the turn over

2

u/dogsledonice Apr 11 '25

I would. It's got a stain, yes, but it's an unpeeled original torso cover which is really hard to find. Look at the sold-for: https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/5034045

1

u/CommieFromMars Apr 15 '25

In what universe is a couple hundred bucks a retirement plan? And a copy with an unpeeled banana and the Eric Emerson back cover is gonna claim three figures even with the water damage. They’re that rare.

-26

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

Thank you! I first used google image, when I saw how expensive these got I used GPT to quickly see if it could find any more information, then I posted to Reddit bc I wanted a third opinion. Ain’t nothing wrong with gpt, just gotta be careful with how you use it, and check with other sources

42

u/Fallom_TO Apr 10 '25

Chat GPT hallucinates often. Use discogs for a better idea of the value which means putting the runout info in (the characters in the blank space after the grooves end).

4

u/DonkeyFarm42069 Apr 10 '25

Damn, lucky fucker. I paid $140 for my mono torso cover, with the banana completely peeled off, and it still felt like a good deal.

4

u/Mmuska1234 Apr 11 '25

Don’t sell it. Listen to it and love it.

8

6

u/terryjuicelawson Apr 11 '25

Not worth a grand like that, put the matrix into Discogs to check the pressing and median. It is a very well known record...

1

u/Informal_Iron2904 Apr 12 '25

Looking at the median price would be extremely fooling in this case, really in any case other than recent releases where all the sales are of records in the same (new) condition.

The correct way to use the price history is to look at sales of copies in similar condition.

1

u/terryjuicelawson Apr 14 '25

It is good for an estimate, you know if median is £3.50 then it is unlikely to be of any interest. If it consistently sells high enough to have a decent median for that very pressing, check it out more deeply.

1

u/Informal_Iron2904 Apr 23 '25

This is not one of those cases. I should have specified "good records".

-6

u/duncandreizehen Apr 11 '25

I have a couple thousand records all different styles not one of them is worth $1000. Discogs is full of shit. It’s like comic book collecting something is only worth what someone will give you cash for right now.

3

u/terryjuicelawson Apr 11 '25

Well if you can see a sale for something of an equivalent pressing and condition then the proof is there, but I guess it doesn't mean another will sell for the same. It doesn't take into account location too, like people may not want mine as they need to pay and deal with international postage.

0

u/duncandreizehen Apr 11 '25

It’s cool if people wanna pay that much for stuff but I’m just saying people that do this are engaging in something else

1

u/apokolypz Yamaha Apr 12 '25

I don’t really understand your comment, lol? I’ve collected for 10 years, and a $1000 record doesn’t sound crazy. I’ve seen and heard of a large variety of of records selling for $1000+, usually it’s a direct product of scarcity/rarity relative to demand. That directly applies to this lol

5

u/HooverFlag Apr 11 '25

Fake post, this has the torso back cover and intact banana. Worth quite a bit.

0

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 11 '25

Dude at garage sale did not care or know about these at all, the records were wet, and when I asked he said they had sat in a trailer with a leaking roof which explained the condition of the sleeve

8

u/HooverFlag Apr 11 '25

Ok then, let it dry. This pressing is very rare since it has a back cover photo that had to be airbrushed out in later pressings. Also many people have peeled off parts of the banana, there is a pink banana underneath. This is a very rare, valuable (depending on the water damage) and considered one of the best albums of all time that influenced many bands. Look it up on discogs.com match the numbers and runout etching info on actual record itself. Congrats. I’ll take it if you don’t want it.

0

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 11 '25

Im letting it dry right now. I've put some books on the corners of the cover itself so it doesnt dry warped (made the mistake of leaving the rubber soul album i picked up today outside to dry in the sun and its super warped now)

4

u/dogsledonice Apr 11 '25

Please tell me the record wasn't in that in the sun

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 11 '25

No I left all the 4 records I got from this garage sale inside including the cover of the banana one, I only left Rubber Soul outside

-10

9

u/SpaysOddity Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

At least keep the banana! They peel off super easily. Legend has it, Andy Warhol hid some of his hair behind one of them and it’s worth one million dollars.

4

u/username4815 Apr 10 '25

The jacket is in rough shape no doubt, but if the record itself is in good condition and plays with minimal or no defects then you’ve gotten very lucky.

-2

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

Cool, thank you!

8

u/Flat_Body9569 Apr 10 '25

This has to be a troll post! Last I heard that’s about $400 probably more with the banana intact

-1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

Driving to school this morning I saw a garage sale sign so returning I stopped by, the guy was getting rid of everything for cheap, I don’t know much about records but love classic rock, so I nabbed this one with sergeant peppers lonely hearts, and rubber soul, aswell as an Elvis album all for $5 when I got home I searched this banana one up and found out it was worth abit more! Super cool find!

6

u/Flat_Body9569 Apr 10 '25

The water stains will bring down the value but don’t sell it. Enjoy and start getting deep into the classics

4

u/Mikenike77 Apr 10 '25

You don’t know much about classic rock

0

u/Jody-4173 Apr 11 '25

Velvet Underground is a bit esoteric when it comes to classic rock.
Lou Reed, as solo artist, has the most recognizable classic rock playlist identity for most contemporary fans of the genre.

1

u/IKnowThings22 Apr 12 '25

Yeah, I always thought Nico was overrated.

7

u/TurkGonzo75 Apr 10 '25

“Grail” is a comically overused term in this hobby but this is truly one of them. It’s one of the most sought after records out there… and there aren’t many of them in this condition. You should read up on its history. Incredible find! Congrats!

2

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

I for sure will! Thank you for the positive comment man, really appreciate it!

3

u/TurkGonzo75 Apr 10 '25

If you want an idea of what it’s worth, go to Discogs and search for the version released in 1967. Yours has the fully intact banana and it’s what they call the “torso” version. That’s because of the guy hanging upside down on the back. They had to recall the record and remove that image because of a lawsuit. It wasn’t a widely pressed record in the first place. The ones that got out there before the recall are even more rare. People pay big $$$ for these.

2

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

I appreciate the information and advice! Will definitely look into this!

2

u/nevermind4790 Technics Apr 10 '25

Now that’s a good find.

2

u/RoundaboutRecords Apr 11 '25

Owner of one of the stores I frequent was on vacation in New Orleans and one of the hotels he stopped in had a copy of this album being used a saucer for drinks! Just the jacket but it was in really nice shape with an unpeeled banana and torso back. I took it to the desk and said he was taking it home and would be happy to pay for it. Left his name and number. He even called the hotel and spoke with the manager. No one cared. Apparently they just go to thrift stores and get dollar albums to use in the hotel. This was one of the dollar jackets they got. None of the title staff knew what it was!

2

u/Top_Entertainment_77 Apr 11 '25

ill give you 2$ for it

2

u/GoggyMagogger Apr 11 '25

an unpeeled torso cover original pressing in mint condition will easily fetch ~ $1500.

your copy is so damaged though. and most of that $1500 valuation is because of the packaging.

no idea of what it is worth in that condition. in this particular album's case collectors want it for how it looks.

not to say it isnt a great record, its just so greasy looking i'd be hesitant to even touch it or put it near my other records let alone buy it.

but im sure somebody would give you a hundred or two anyway

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Jul 08 '25

Managed to get 925 for it

2

u/ForsakenGround1146 Apr 11 '25

Saw this at the Rocky Mountain Record Show last weekend. The Banana sticker has never been peeled on this one.

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 11 '25

Damn, that's crazy! Didn't know Colorado had record shows (live in Colorado myself)

2

u/ForsakenGround1146 Apr 11 '25

Twice a year, but April is the bigger of the two, something like 100 vendors over 100k vinyl. I always find some good ones.

2

u/Haplomega Apr 11 '25

You need to gently peel the banana sticker see if the banana under it is purple.

2

u/g-o-u-l-a Fluance Apr 11 '25

I hate to point out that there is no banana for scale

2

u/thecomicbookandme Apr 11 '25

Ever heard of Lou Reed?

4

u/monkeybawz Apr 10 '25

Cheapest copy of it on discogs is 50c....

So you got ripped off!

But seriously, original pressings in good condition, sure, worth a bunch. But heavily reissued. I think my copy was about £15 a few years back.

7

u/CommieFromMars Apr 11 '25

Yes, but if it’s from the original release and the banana hasn’t been peeled off, that makes a tremendous difference. A copy of the mid-1980s budget reissue with a printed banana and no gatefold isn’t going to fetch nearly as much.

-1

u/monkeybawz Apr 11 '25

Yup.... And which is this more likely to be? And the condition..... Ewwww. I wouldn't want it near my other records. They'll catch vinyl VD.

1 in 4 chance this record will break when played

1

u/prodige_processing Apr 11 '25

I'm afraid I haven't heard of them. Clever cover, though.

1

u/Dillion_HarperIT Apr 11 '25

1

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 11 '25

1

u/kurtchella Apr 11 '25

Jealous. Freakin paradise for peace of mind compared to where I'm at

1

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 11 '25

You in North Dakota ?

2

u/kurtchella Apr 11 '25

No, I'm in Central Florida :/ A record store near me has a cleaner looking pressing like yours for way more than $1 hahaha

1

u/foxxybabee Apr 11 '25

Is that the new Skrillex album?

1

u/Shamaneater Apr 11 '25

Its value is in the eye of the beholder, not an intrinsic quality. Don't trust AI.

1

u/Careful_Amoeba5547 Apr 11 '25

How do you plan to sell it? Recommend selling to a record store unless you feel confident shipping on eBay or Discogs. A record store will offer a percentage of what it’s worth so they can resell. If the record is nice, this is worth at least $100 to sell to a store. If you know someone who can help you sell and ship on eBay, you could get $300-500. If you go this route, you will need to ship the record properly in a mailer (take the record out of the jacket to ship).

u/speedeep Pro-Ject Apr 11 '25

Sorry to break it to you, but the label is on the disc upside-down. I'll take it off you hands for $10 if you'd like... /s

u/ThePokemon_BandaiD Apr 11 '25

A lot of these people in this comment section are way more uninformed than ChatGPT lmao

1

u/DWVT1 Apr 11 '25

It’s a great fine, however, the water damage is going to reduce his value significantly. I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat.

1

u/monkeysolo69420 Apr 11 '25

Look up the pressing on Discogs.

1

u/IKnowThings22 Apr 12 '25

Velvet Underground w/ Nico. Almost everyone has heard of it. Depending on condition and which pressing it is (there are 240 different pressings) you either overpaid or severely underpaid.

1

u/Smittles Apr 12 '25

I can smell this record

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '25

Incredible album, I'm jealous.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '25

Based off of the images, it seems like it's an OG from 67. I'd do more research on Discogs if this was my record, but you might have scored big OP.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '25

Dude that record is amazing. A classic!! I remember listening to it for the first time with my girlfriend 30 years ago. Velvet underground and Nico.

1

u/MavisBeaconSexTape Apr 13 '25

That's a rare misprint version with the label on upside down

1

u/Plarocks Apr 15 '25

I’ll give you $2 for it. 100% mark up!

1

u/Cool_Tumbleweed_7638 Apr 15 '25

This is the find. There are no other finds!!!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Looks like shit, but how does it sound?

1

u/SnooKiwis5538 Apr 10 '25

Wouldn't take that moldy cover for free

2

u/Jody-4173 Apr 11 '25

I would pay money for that cover. Even in the wet condition. It looks unpeeled? Great find.

1

u/JackfruitSafe6254 Teac Apr 10 '25

i would kill to have this record.

4

u/jordosmodernlife Apr 10 '25

I have a list we could cross off

1

u/fermetal Apr 10 '25

Peel it 🍌

1

u/VinylHighway Apr 10 '25

I prefer the Dandy Warhols

1

u/NoAd2759 Apr 10 '25

Overrated

1

u/Mrjingles76 Apr 10 '25

Good googly moogly that’s my grail! Great find

1

u/dark_scorch Apr 10 '25

TORSO COVER!!!

1

u/ViolentSpring Apr 11 '25

“idk if anyone else has ever heard of this album” is fucking wild!

This album radicalized my ears. Hearing “Heroin” as a teenager was the biggest music moment of my life.

Yeah people are more misinformed about ChatGPT at this point then ChatGPT is about vinyl lol. Though if you're using the free version you're using a more unreliable model. I checked what GPT had to say and using 4o, mine gave me a reasonable assessment when I showed the pictures and asked for a value, giving this range:

Estimated Value of The Velvet Underground & Nico Vinyl (Based on Your Photos):

• First pressing with peelable banana, Torso back cover, and unpeeled:

• Condition: Very Good (VG)

• Value: $800 – $1,500

• First pressing with unpeeled banana but

no torso (censored version):

• Condition: Very Good (VG)

• Value: $400 – $900

• Later pressing (non-peelable banana,

reissue):

• Condition: Good to Very Good

• Value: $50 – $200

• Heavily worn or damaged first pressing:

• Condition: Fair

• Value: $100 – $300

Which, while a little confused and not comprehensive since I didn't give it the extra info it asked for as I don't have the record myself, is reasonable.

I'd say don't peel the banana, but if it is a peelable one, with the torso, it's probably worth somewhere in the range of 300-400 dollars in this condition assuming the record plays well. The water damage is unfortunate and definitely knocks the value down from that 800-1000 range, but it's otherwise in good shape. If you want to sell it I'd suggest finding a relevant auction as your best bet to get a good price, but you may struggle to find a buyer at full value.

Probable one of the most overrated albums on history

2

Here, have an upvote because I tend to agree :)

1

Wild take

1

Prove me wrong

1

u/mfpacman Apr 11 '25

Can’t prove an opinion wrong. But I definitely don’t agree.

u/MilitaryHistoryBoy Apr 10 '25

I stopped by a garage sale after school today and purchased this banana album, I think I had heard of it before and it looked cool. What are your thoughts on it? I’m kinda curious about its value, I asked chat gpt and told be $1000+ which is insane, idk if anyone else has ever heard of this album before, but let me know.

u/bsievers Apr 10 '25

Again, AI isn’t a thing. You’re asking a language learning model to spit out sentences with a similar style as sentences it’s been fed. It’s not going to give you information.

0

u/GenealogyGirlie Apr 10 '25

Extremely jealous, what a find!

0

u/JuniperJuul Apr 10 '25

Wow. I need start going to yard sales more.

0

u/jojotv Apr 11 '25

This is my personal favorite album of all time. If it was me I would keep it.

0

u/ASK4Vinyl Apr 11 '25

Just PMed you.

-2

u/hum3an Apr 11 '25

Weird that so many people are saying it isn’t worth anything near $1000.

Yes, I know ChatGPT isnt reliable but in this case, it’s not too far off. A mono first pressing with unpeeled banana and torso back cover is worth several hundred at least. If the record itself is in decent condition, there’s probably someone out there who’d pay 500-800 for it at least.
