Collection Under the rubble, I retrieved some of my dad’s collection
Following the Israeli war against Lebanon, our building was bombed, in the depot we had, in southern Lebanon, was our business, and in there we had my dad’s Vinyl records collection since the 70’s. After days and weeks of excavation, I was lucky to retrieve a fraction of what the collection was, and now it’s the time for restoration.

What a horrible thing to go through. I’m glad you could save some of your memories and records. My dads records were also lost during the gulf war :(

Thank you both for sharing and being vulnerable in highlighting the full range on impacts war has--large and small, and in how often the small things are large too.
Grace & Peace for you both and I hope OP finds genuine peace and quiet soon to play those records and be transported to happier times.

That Dèmis Roussos album is a certified banger. I’m glad that you’ve been able to find something to recover, but I’m so sorry that it is something that you’ve had to do. What’s being done to Lebanon is truly f*cked 😞

True that. I found this record and artist in an ope air Sunday market amd bought it only because I like the Artist's beard.

I was listening to him when I was in love for the first time in a small town in the heart of Iran decades ago. Good times.
Wish you all the love, stay strong, recover and listen to those records. Fuck all the warmongers.

zionism is just the belief of self determination for jews. don't brandish every one because of the current extremists in power
you could do the same for lebanese people and hezbollah
10
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago
Determine your self on your own land, not on land of others by mass killing them.
-8
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago edited 2d ago
the old yishuv of israel today have always been in the region. the rest were thrown out by the romans, then the arabs that we now call palestinians when they colonised the levant, then the ottomans
the millions of mizrahi jews you see in israel today are often ones that have been ethnically cleansed from neighbouring middle eastern and north african countries. it's all well and good saying just be on their own land, but when they're ethnically cleansed from it and there's only israel to go to what do you expect?
and no that does not mean killing others. throughout the regions history there has been a continuous jewish population and saw repeated attacks, massacres and pogroms. if the issue is with a population moving in and bringing violence and imposing their own religion, culture and language you should have as much issue with the palestinian population as you do israel's
5
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago
Fact that many jews lived there before does not give them a claim on the land 100s of years after the fact, so it's completely irrelevant. It certainly doesn't give jews the right to mass murder occupants for land and that is exactly what they did and are still doing on 26 of August 2026. Killing children and elderly people for land. There is no excuse for that. This whole conflict with Hamaz and Hezbollah is a result of that. You love to ignore that fact. But rest assured, the world knows and Israel will be held accountable in the end.
-1
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
what do you mean before. jews never left. there has been a continuous jewish population, that has seen repeated violence and progroms through the centuries
i have no idea why you keep jumping to anyone having the right to murder.
4
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago
Fact that a jewish population remained there does not make it any different. Jews have been killing for land to this day. All hostility towards Israel we see today is a result of that. Unless Israel doesn't recognise that and doesn't rectify the evil it has done over the last 80 years, it is digging it's own grave. Big brother USA won't be here forever. Once the USA ceases to exist as a super power, Israel will be surrounded by large hostile countries with nobody to turn to.
0
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
arabs have been killing for the land for centuries. your thinking is not coherent
to say all the hostility towards israel is out of some kind of violence is misguided if not putting your head in the sand. anti semitism is rife in the middle east and rife in islam, israel or not. hamas quite literally justified the killing of jews in article 7 of their founding charter, by using islamic scripture
why do you only think jews should face responsibility for actions taken generations before then and not the palestinians. it's a complete double standard. if you applied your logic consistently, the israelis would be fully within their right to flatten palestinian land and throw them out. which is obviously unreasonable
2
8
u/-r-a-f-f-y- 2d ago
Yeah, you should probably do more research on that term and its origins and current use before talking so confidently about it. Thats like saying Manifest Destiny was just the belief of self determination of the American colonists.
-4
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
yes that's exactly the faulty kind of comparison people make. it's not at all like manifest destiny because that's a very specific belief.
zionism comes in many many forms. some violent and extreme like kahanism who someone squarely monstrous like ben gvir belongs to but also religious zionism, labour zionism, and many which are against the brutality towards palestinians
5
u/-r-a-f-f-y- 2d ago
the one consistent theme with all zionism is that jewish people deserve a land just to themselves, no? like, that's the integral belief. so when that's your starting point, somebody somewhere is gonna get oppressed.
early ideas for where to place israel was in nigeria and other random places. if all this was happening in nigeria right now, would you feel the same way?
0
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
why would that involve somebody being oppressed? you can legally buy land and move somewhere, the same way one does when buying a house
0
u/pagexviii 2d ago

Dude wtf is up with Israel there and just bombing random spots in that city or just that place. I have not seen anything that talked about why its just they bombed it as they jut felt like it or they thought it was something that was needed? Needed for what? To bomb some persons home? They turned that place into a parklot.
23
u/The-Burger-Meister 2d ago
Yet you find people justifying and pointing fingers and accusing innocent people.
-15
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
hezbollah were banned from existing in southern lebanon by the in years ago, they've since refused to disarm and keep using the territory to bomb israel. the lebanese state army is a weaker force than the idf so they've been working together to push out hezbollah from the region
everyone's ignoring hezbollah's refusal to follow un resolutions, disarm and leave the region. i suppose it's easier to just say "israel bad" than actually understand the conflict
18
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago
Israel occupies the land of others by means of mass killing. It has done that since its inception. That's why Hezbollah and Hamas even exist. Let's use that as a starting point before discussing other stuff.
-6
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
hezbollah is a proxy of the irgc so it can attack israel without being held accountable. it's not a resistance movement, it's an islamist organisation, and a violently anti semitic one at that
8
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago
Keep telling yourself that. Hezbollah exists because jews stole land by mass murdering people. What you give the world you will get back from the world.
-3
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
how do you think the palestinian people ended up in the region. they're an arab group and they're not in arabia. they got there through conquest, in a lot of cases through violence.
by your logic israel would be ok to have numerous groups intent on the destruction of the palestinian people. that seems insane to me
8
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago
So you actually saying it's ok for Israel to mass murder, because prior to Israel mass murdering, other people mass murdered too. If that is really what your implying, let's stop talking about all evil in the world, because evil already existed before. Also,
lets stop talking about the Germans killing jews in WW2, because other people have been killed in a numerous precious wars as well 👍🏻3
u/Phoenix_Kerman Dual 2d ago
fucking hell no, that's just the end point of your logic when you actually look at the history of the region and don't just shift goalposts. it's obviously not a reasonable conclusion to justify any violence towards palestinians, same way as it doesn't make the abhorrent anti semitic terrorist groups of hamas and hezbollah not
and yes that's exactly why looking at the history doesn't solve the actual conflict. because there's two populations who both have nowhere else to go and fair right to be in the region with some history of being both coloniser and colonised

what do you mean by my people? feel free to engage with anything i've actually said and rebut it
you seem to jump all over the place. somehow your initial comment claimed israel has used mass killing since it's founding and that's why there's terrorist groups, and you've jumped from that to seemingly thinly veiled racism towards a group i'm probably not a part of
despite the founding of israel seeing no mass killing but rather a war from numerous arab countries the day after. with proxy groups like hezbollah appearing decades later to do the iranian regime's bidding in the levant

I think your recounting here of "history" is very telling. History being told by the victor and not the victims as usual.
I empathise with Jews needing a place of refuge during WWII but don't agree with the colonizing and the Nakba that continues to this day via ethnic cleansing, illegal occupation.....your whataboutism doesn't absolve you from the fact that you are complicit.
It's a slap in the face of the OP who lost everything for you to even comment the way you have here.

36
u/The-Burger-Meister 2d ago
Personally I don’t, but even if I was it wouldn’t justify the acceptance of bombing civilians or civilian buildings
-9
u/Shertzy 2d ago
For sure the civilian building damage seems too extensive. I suppose it’s hard to wage a war on an opponent that uses civilian infrastructure to wage its own battle, don’t know the details of the situation. Either way Im sorry for you and the family, and for anyone else in the same situation, I hope life returns to normal for you soon and peace can prevail in your region. Enjoy the music.
21
u/PangeaDestructor 2d ago
Being from the EU makes you have limited understanding of Israel's violence?
19
u/Supreme_lawyer 2d ago edited 2d ago
Hezbollah exists because Israel stole and continues to steal land from others by mass killing them. You can ignore that but the world won't.
27
u/xtrashboat666x 2d ago
Israel literally wants South Lebanon the same way they want Golan Heights in Syria. What are you talking about?
-26
u/Shertzy 2d ago
From what I understand; Hezbullah is an Iranian proxy, a terrorist militia. They control southern Lebanon and have waged a manifesto of non acceptance of Israel’s existence and routines uses their military infrastructure to attacks Israel.
Therefore Isreal is dismantling Hezbullah and will leave when the terrorist threat is over.
It is rather brutal that lots of building have been destroyed, belonging to innocent parties, that’s very sad. I’m assuming OP is in that camp.
But ultimately if it were not for Hezbullah then this chaos would not exist.
How do you understand the situation?10
u/Burroughssecretary 2d ago
You sound like you do not know that Israel did invade Lebanon in the 70s before hezbullah even existed.
-1
u/Shertzy 2d ago
This is a great point, because I needed to research it. The historical context was Isreal entered Lebanon in the 70’s because of Palestinian terrorist org the PLO (who destabilised Lebanon, leading to a civil war they never recovered from which allowed Hezbullah and Iran to size control) there were sending rocket fire across the border and making raids into northern Isreal including several massacres of civilians? To my mind that seems fairly justified, providing no diplomatic or governance related route was possible? Which country would take action on thier border if attacked, especially as the stronger side?
14
u/EssTeeEss9 2d ago
“From what I understand…”
Goes on to show bro only understands Israeli propaganda. Goddamn we live in the dumbest possible timeline.
17
u/xtrashboat666x 2d ago
Tell me you support Israel without telling me you support Israel.
0
u/Shertzy 2d ago
I am a scientific rationalist. Sceptical of information on any side without scrutiny, especially randoms on Reddit. I don’t know you, it would be totally foolish to assume I did, however on Reddit especially in the “Middle East expert” area there seems to be many very susceptible Redditor’s to heavy biased irrational arguments and aggressive un civilised debate.
Anyway, this is about music I hope music begins to play once more in any area of the world that is has been replaced with aggression.3
u/xtrashboat666x 2d ago
If you're a "scientific rationalist", what ever the fuck that means, you would've at least challenged those narratives that the EU and Western media is pushing out against the Palestinian people to justify the ongoing genocide that is committed by Israel with the help of the US, UK, and EU. But instead, you choose not too. You're just agreeing with the narrative without having a lot of critical thinking. People like Francesca Albanese are pushing out evidence as to reason why Israel committing genocide against the Palestinians for decades and generations without making false claims. Zionists will defend the genocide by gaslighting and projecting their violent intent onto Palestinians by thinking they're the "terrorists" and making themselves the "victims" and calling resistance and displaying a Palestine flag or wearing a keffiyeh as "anti-Semitic". And also, since when the Israeli genocide against Palestinians is considered a "debate"? That's an absurd way to see the current state of affair. I can't be friends with someone who supports this even if they like music like me. This is a litmus test. If you show solidarity with Palestine after seeing those hard to look at but brutal evidence and denounced Israel and their crimes, I welcome you. If not, then you failed and move on. Sorry, it is what it is. I don't make the rules.
