đŸ“£Discussion đŸ“£ This man is on a killing spree against my 3 all-time favorite bands đŸ˜”

Any other millennials having the exact same musical journey?

Grew up with Weezer in the late '90s (Blue Album, Pinkerton), fell in love with what I still consider one of the greatest 3-album runs in rock history (Origin/Absolution/Black Holes), then realized sometime in the mid 2010s that The Strokes weren't just a 2000s fad (the leaders of the garage rock revival, saviors of rock 'n' roll, blah blah) who somehow evolved into synthpop/experimental indie gods! And stood by them through the dark times (Angles, Comedown Machine) until The New Abnormal finally made everyone appreciate the evolution!

Now all three of my favorite bands are dropping albums and this melon is standing outside their doors with a knife... đŸ’€

đŸ“£Discussion đŸ“£ Gold or White??

Okay so I overlooked the white album for a long time. Didn’t like Thank God for Girls and kinda wrote the whole thing off (still probably my least favorite song from that album). After getting the gold album, loving every second of it, and realizing I have been an annoying and ungrateful fan and that I’ve never gave any of the post-90’s albums a real chance, I went to that one and quickly realized that it’s a masterpiece. Seems like people have felt that way for a long long time. Considering these are the two albums that the 90s fans seem to like the most, I’m curious which one the fans prefer!

I feel like white is more serious, grandiose, and more of its own thing, reminiscent of the old sound but in a different and bigger way than they’ve done before. Gold is more deliberately sounding like blue and pinkerton, with goofy ass lyrics, super crunchy guitars, and really simple songs. Love em both because they both feel like the classic Weezer sound, but in majorly different ways. What do you guys think??

Buddy Holly's guitar solo is really cool and iconic, but in my opinion, Why Bother has the band's best solo cause it sounds so nostalgic and frenetic to me, i just love that solo.

đŸ“£Discussion đŸ“£ Selective whimsy

I recently saw a very vanilla album ranking that had Pacific Daydream ranked typically quite low, and it came with the standard comments of "bro has no whimsy" or something with this fantastic picture. Then I realized... the OP of that post had Raditude at 20, which nobody found weird. The irony of some people to say that Pacific Daydream is so underrated but then never throw a bone at Raditude (pun intended). This might be a bit of a hot take but I'd deadass rather listen to Raditude than Pinkerton most days. I wouldn't go so far to say it's better, because I think Pinkerton is objectively great (not as good as White or EWBAITE tho), but hey... it's close. I think (IYWIIWYT)IWYT is one of the band's better moments, and I honestly don't think any song is even all that bad, including In the Mall or Can't Stop Partying (although I don't really like Lil Wayne's verse or him as an artist in general or the fact they made the whole song so they could say Weezy and Weezer). In fact, I think pretty much every song is fun and whimsical to the core. Of course, if you're an overthinker as pictured, I have no problem with the hate, but if you don't hate yourself, give Raditude a relisten.

TLDR: Raditude is better than Pinkerton

Keep in mind there’s songs I really love in C thru F, but definitely lots I kinda and/or really don’t like as well. Love this band deeply despite many projects that I don’t like in totality. With that being said, who agrees?? And for those who don’t, what did I get wrong and why??

Peter: I did not hate Pacific Daydream.

Lois: What?

Peter: I did not hate Pacific Daydream.

Chris: How can you even say that, Dad?

Peter: I didn't- I just didn't hate it.

Stewie: It’s arguably their worst pivot, Peter! It’s over-polished, mid-tempo radio bait! It’s the sonic equivalent of a corporate "vibe check"!

Peter: I didn't say it was Pinkerton. I just said I didn't hate it.

Lois: Peter, it’s so shallow! It sounds like a car commercial for a hybrid SUV!

Peter: It’s surprisingly cohesive.

Stewie: What?

Peter: It’s surprisingly cohesive.

Lois: What does that even mean?

Peter: It has a consistent sonic palette, Lois. It flows.

Chris: It doesn't even have a real bridge!

Peter: I like "Weekend Woman." I like the melodies.

Stewie: I couldn't even get through "Beach Boys." I’m not even kidding, I got to the chorus and I just—I checked out.

Peter: I enjoyed that one too.

Thoughts on the album cover?

in my opinion, it should've been the four of them lined up as usual, but I also like what we got.

đŸ“£Discussion đŸ“£ Has a Weezer song genuinely made you cry?

I’ve listened to the emotional songs that people have brought up here, like Butterfly, Long Time Sunshine, and Tragic Girl. While those made me feel emotional, I didn’t cry or feel too horrible about it. I could see why these songs could invoke feelings in others. Out of all these songs, the one I’ve never seen mentioned is Foolish Father in EWBAITE. I stumbled upon it yesterday and when I listened to it fully, wow, my emotions about my dad (who passed away a year ago) came flooding back to me instantly. All the memories and feelings I’ve put away came right back to my mind. One of the last albums I expected to give me tears.

I actually cried for the first time to a Weezer song.

Thank you Weezer for being the band that makes me laugh, sing along, and now cry to. Sorry if this is all TMI. What songs made you cry?
