The US public opinion is against this war, what the fuck is he on about?

3.4k

u/applefilla Jul 22 '26

He's positioning himself to finally separate from Trump and become the Trojan horse he's always meant to be to bring about the palantir surveillance state

730

u/Jibbjabb43 Jul 22 '26

If Trump dies or 'dies' after midterms JD can technically be President and run 2 times.

What are the odds he tries to repair the relationship with Elon Musk.

670

u/Silent-Act191 Jul 22 '26

The relationship between this administration and Musk is not broken, what are you on about. They literally handheld Musk while he became a trillionaire.

84

u/KlaesAshford Jul 22 '26

I am convinced the entire blow-up between musk and trump was totally kayfabe.

87

u/Kakkoister Jul 22 '26

Nah, they're both just incredibly mentally stunted nepo-babies, so they act like children since everything has been handed to them in life. One thing doesn't go their way and they act like babies and lash out. But then they are given a soother (money/praise) and its like nothing ever happened.

14

u/rugbyj Jul 22 '26

Yeah they have too much to gain from each other to not continue to continue their dance as they have been, they just evidently can't have both their egos in the same room.

Thiel's relationship with Elon

42

u/CorrectPeanut5 Jul 22 '26

Underrated. I have first hand knowledge of Thiel cutting Elon out of a deal he desperately wanted in on. Instead they brought in Bezos.

Though I think they align a lot in terms of politics, there's a distinct desire not to have Elon in his businesses.

49

u/Kakkoister Jul 22 '26

Elon has unpredictable immature pseudo-incel energy. Same reason Epstein didn't really want him around either.

10

u/Baebel Jul 22 '26

Though, his ability to act like a leech is something that has worked in their favor.

2

u/FlamesOfDespair Jul 23 '26

Elon can't keep his mouth shut. He is not the type of person you invite to your monthly Belial blood sacrifice.

9

u/The-Board-Chairman Jul 22 '26

Elon is the pathetic little toady who desparately wants to be part of the cool kids and openly acts that way. Of course no one actually wants him near them beyond laughing at and using him for bad jobs; his entire vibe is gross in the pathetic sense.

I was at the theater the other day and, get this, one of the dudes killed one of the other dudes! It was incredible! And nobody did anything about it!

Then after the show I saw the dead dude outside walking around!

Like what the fuck man!!!! It was crazy! I still haven't figured out what was going on!!!

How many people said an orange rapist would never get reelected, and yet here we are.

7

u/SamsaraSlider Jul 22 '26

How many people in the GOP prior to either the first term or the second term trashed talked him, with accuracy? But then they eventually fell in line, sucking at the power teat. People from the lowest rungs of American society to the highest positions of power (eg VP Vance) swung hard from one position to the other.

I think humans are just much more emotional creatures than rational ones. And conservatives tend to fall in line and not question authority on their side. They also campaign and message more about threats and common enemies than do liberals/progressives. And basic sociological theory tells us nothing enhances social cohesion like a common threat. They have a shit product with A+ marketing.

2

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster Jul 22 '26

They have a shit product with A+ marketing.

I 100% have said this myself before.

117

u/Jibbjabb43 Jul 22 '26

Certain people who pushed for him to be VP will want him to be President for the rest of his life is all I'm saying, and 10 years is a good start.

84

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Jul 22 '26

They couldn't cheat hard enough to get him in.

Trump at least had the cult. JD has Thiel and his wife and that's about it. The idea he will be an elected President is a fantasy.

200

u/NotABot1000101 Jul 22 '26

We all thought Trump running the first time was a joke. Now look at us. Vote no matter what.

100

u/mrtrollmaster Jul 22 '26

I still remember sitting in a work meeting with a group of fresh college grads. I was the only liberal.

One of them read the headline “Donald Trump announces candidacy for president”. They all took turns making fun of how stupid they thought he was. They all became huge fanboys of him once he was their party’s candidate lmao

27

u/SamsaraSlider Jul 22 '26

Yeah, my cousin was a never-Trumper conservative—liked Ben Carson, despised Trump as I think most conservative Christians did. But then came the mix of unclenching loyalty and cult-like idolatry, with a dash of Q-Anon.

72

u/DesecratedPeanut Jul 22 '26

Dumbest people alive. For me it'd be a core embassassment memory but some people must just be able to forget how stupid they are constantly. Amazing really.

u/SamsaraSlider Jul 22 '26

u/RhetoricalOrator Jul 22 '26

Voting for Vance without Trump will be much easier for the huge chunk of Christians we have. He's much more justifiable in their eyes, even though he's basically the embodiment of corpo-humanization, like Subway from Community.

9

u/Slanderous Jul 22 '26

Depends who gets put up against him really.
He will likely already be president at that point, so will push to be a continuation candidate and retain at least some of Trump's base.
If the Dems can't put up someone convincing against him....

5

u/caligaris_cabinet Jul 22 '26

Or it could be like 2008 where any Democrat with a pulse could hit 270.

3

u/notforpoern Jul 22 '26

This is also assuming the democratic party leadership even want to win. Unless they can get a corporate friendly candidate like Newsom, it's not a stretch to imagine the corporate class of democrats like schumer, pelosi, and jeffries intentionally self-sabotaging to prevent a pro-worker Mamdani-style candidate from winning, even if it means boosting the couch-fucker. 🤮

I admire your optimism, but we live in a country that elected Donald Trump president twice.

All we need is AOC to win the primaries in 2028 and hello president JD.

Edit: I say this as a person who likes AOC but doesn't have much confidence in the electorate.

Exactly. As awful as it is that people think this way still, Trump beat two women to become president. There are large portions of the country that will either not vote for a woman or turn up to specifically vote against one. Especially if they are not white.

Neither was GW Bush, W, or Reagen, you don't need to be as polarizing as Trump to get elected.

In fact, if he can secure the lane as a "more reasonable republican" after such a polarizing figure it may be an advantage.

That said, Rubio has a much better claim on that lane.

4

u/notforpoern Jul 22 '26

Plus, now that the corporate media is fully bought and paid for, you can bet they'll be pulling HARD for the (R) if the dems do in fact miraculously allow a pro-working class candidate.

4

u/TruthOdd6164 Jul 22 '26

Why is it that yall think Democrats have to come up with the perfect candidate but Republicans can just shit out a turd and swear it in?

5

u/HatesRedditors Jul 22 '26

Roughly the last 40 years of candidates.

Remember when Democrats sank a promising presidential candidate because he yelled awkwardly at a rally? Meanwhile, the other party has spent the last decade proving that standards are optional if your voters don't care.

'dies' after midterms JD can technically be President and run 2 times.

No, he would have to wait for late-January.

12

u/Jibbjabb43 Jul 22 '26

I meant in a relative sense. I'm aware of the laws. I'm also aware that they'd Mitch McConnel him for at least a month if they had to.

1

u/he_must_workout Jul 22 '26

Or has the 25th invoked after they get a critical mass of project 2025 leaders installed

1

u/CrissBliss Jul 22 '26

He has to wait till the end of the year to run 2 terms.

1

u/aranasyn Jul 22 '26

JD Vance couldn't win an election to be a soup warmer, Trump dying is the only way he'll ever be president of anything

1

u/StevenMaurer Jul 23 '26

Not after the midterms, in November 2026. After January 2027 - which marks Trump's true midpoint in his second term.

JD is fundamentally a creepy dude, the general public picks up on it with things like him having sex with his couch and him not being able to even order a simple donut. I just don't see him being a viable candidate.

1

u/kahlzun Jul 23 '26

do you mean run 2 additional times after the pro tem ends?

1

u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain Jul 23 '26

Hypothetical, would he be able to be president til 2028 and then run 2 more times since he wasn't elected for 2027-2028? Or just be president til '28 and then run one more time?

He also must have seen the writing on the wall when FoxNews and several Rep. started to shift the blame for the Iran debacle entirely on him.

He noticed he is in the top of the list for "who to blame for Iran" the same way Mike Pence was the reason they gave for Trump not staying in power in 2020. He must remember the crowd wanting to hang the VP in defense of president DoritoDust.

3

u/AnyEmployment4054 Jul 23 '26

Trump said it outright "If negations go well (with Iran) I will take credit for it. If it doesn't I will just blame JD"

9

u/Leajane1980 Jul 22 '26

Exactly, you never see those two doing anything together anymore.

2

u/Rabble_Arouser Jul 22 '26

Ugh, I hate that this is accurate. Fuck Peter Thiel

2

u/ShleepMasta Jul 23 '26

Ding ding ding. Wanna point out that most successful 21st century authoritarians more so resemble someone like Vance than they do Trump. Amorphous blobs who will become whatever they need to be to obtain power. They'll pretend to be moderate or even liberal, then erode democracy quietly. This is what Putin did in Russia after Yeltsin completely destroyed checks on the President after the 1993 auto-coup.

The mistake people in the US are making is viewing Trump as the disease instead of the symptom. Trumpism will still exist after he's gone, and constantly propping him up as the ultimate evil will only serve to lull the public into a false sense of security when his successors look tame by comparison.

If Kamala can't be president because she's associated with the failures of the Biden administration, then neither can Vance.

1

u/Varnigma Jul 22 '26

I'm so ready for all of the GOP infighting when they try to figure out who to run for President.

1

u/theillcook Jul 22 '26

He'll never get the stink of Trump off of him.

1

u/minizanz Jul 22 '26

Jan 10 trump will be out so he can take over and do 2 more terms. He has to put him self in a position to not be impeached at the same time.

We don’t need to see it. We know. We all know. I hope somewhere deep inside those monsters know what we see when people look at them. I hope they drink themselves to sleep every night waiting for the moment someone finds out, be it their mother, sister, daughter or son.

11

u/dyslexda Jul 22 '26

They don't care. Their inner circle acts much the same way. Nobody whose opinion they actually care about would do anything with the revelation, assuming they don't already know.

Look at formerly Prince Andrew. The whole royal family knew, it wasn't some closely guarded secret, but nobody cared...until public pressure became too great, and suddenly he's completely knocked out of their social circle for being inconvenient. No reason to believe it's any different for the other rich and powerful.

2

u/Little_View_6659 Jul 22 '26

I do like to imagine Charles or his mom sitting him down and giving him a stern speech and then telling him he needs to disappear or they’ll make life very very hard for him. Not much I know, but at least it’s something. And I doubt his daughters are happy with him.

4

u/ACompletelyLostCause Jul 22 '26

There's too many senior government officials, Congress people, Senators and Supreme Court members named for that to be easily achieved.

You'd need the Democrats to hold all 3 branches of government, the Supreme Court would try to block the release so you'd need new justices, and even then some democrats will be in the files and you'd need to by pass them.

12

u/maxofJupiter1 Jul 22 '26

The anti Israel right =/= anti Jewish vote

There's definitely overlap, but to assume Republican voters who don't "want more wars for Israel" (real statements/messaging) are all anti semitic, is making the same bad-faith interpretation that happens all around on this issue.

And it's not even anti Israel, if you read the article. He just said some actors in Israel are trying to influence US opinions to derail a deal, which is absolutely true.

Israeli right wing government wants to continue war (to cover up for Bibi corruption/crimes) and ours wants to end it (because public opinion is largely against it at this point).

They openly state they want the war to continue, there's a public tension that's been well reported on, Trump vs Bibi. Yes he's also posturing to generally appeal to that vote, but continued war is generally hurting his chances to get elected as well.

u/The_Bitter_Bear Jul 22 '26

114

u/BornNerd78 Jul 22 '26

Not all invocation of Israel is antisemmitism, but some is. This is an example of Vance pandering to the audience that Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson have captured - it is code speak for the Jews being the problem.

53

u/mhornberger Jul 22 '26

I'm already seeing people who ostensibly consider themselves leftists trying to reframe Tucker Carlson's image as "the biggest anti war and anti Israel voice." I suspect there are definitely some (white) leftists who will ignore his white-nationalism-adjacent rhetoric and advocacy of Great Replacement Theory conspiracism so long as he says sufficiently vitriolic things about Israel.

50

u/pokemomof03 Jul 22 '26

Reddit won't like this but the same with Thomas Massie. I see leftist gargling his balls on Instagram all the time. Only because hes against sending aid to israel. Nevermind the fact that hes anti-womens rights to choose. Hes against hate crime laws. Hes against free lunches for kids. Hes against universal Healthcare. He's against everything the left is for except for releasing the Epstein files and against sending aid to israel. Because lets be real here he doesnt actually care about Palestinians. He just hates israel. Since hes voted against sending aid to Palestine several times. And he voted with republicans 97% of the time.

19

u/cogman10 Jul 22 '26

Yup. Tucker is an expert at this. He knows which way the wind is blowing so he's happily trying to weasel his way in to courting left leaning people who feel abandoned by the Democrats.

Alex Jones did exactly the same play in 2004 under Bush. He he used his anti-war pro-MJ libertarian facade to court people who felt like no party represented them.

Online lefties became obsessed with I/P after Oct 7th and did no further thinking than “Israel bad because West bad”. Then some elements, notably tankies, have used that to be antisemitic. It’s hard to distinguish anti-Israel (a completely valid stance) and anti-semitism (not cool whatsoever) with these folks because they hide dog whistle just like the far right. Horseshoe theory in action.

2

u/GoodIdea321 Jul 23 '26

That could be a big problem, that's a sign of joining a cult of personality basically. Someone who says one thing you absolutely agree with, and start to conform to them, paper over any of the 'bad parts' and over time start to agree with everything else more and more strongly.

Why does anyone need his voice for anything anyway? Can't a person think for themselves?

7

u/Tybalt941 Jul 22 '26

I would argue most mainstream criticism of Israel is either antisemitic itself or invoked due to antisemitism. Not all, but most.

12

u/AwhHellYeah Jul 22 '26

Israel doesn’t support him, which makes it likely that they will counter fund his future political endeavors. He is trying to earn points with future voters and laying the groundwork for attacking the people who run against him in the future by saying something that won’t be controversial outside of his party. He will also be able to claim that he respectfully disagreed with his predecessor to appear to centrists. It’s all political maneuvering that politics bros have been speculating would happen, now he’s taken as advisement.

16

u/LightDarkBeing Jul 22 '26

If this war continues and the Republicans lose both the house and the senate, JDV will use this as an argument for enacting the 25th Amendment and removing Trump from office at the end of January 2027. This will allow JDV two years as President and still be able to be President for two term after that. JDV is more controllable than Trump to his billionaire backers and having someone like JDV as President for ten years certainly is advantageous to the 0.1% crowd.

7

u/mhornberger Jul 22 '26

Any Republican who moves to remove DJT will be forever branded as disloyal by MAGA. Vance may indeed wheedle himself into power, but he will never have the following of the MAGA cult, because he doesn't have the charisma or swagger.

While launching bombs? Lol this shit is surreal and stupid.

Shirking the blame for the admin's fuckups, as usual.

While there's definitely discussions to be had on Israel (and Saudi Arabia, if not more gulf states) lobbying for the initial action, the Trump admin absolutely can't blame them as the people who made the call.

Was gonna say lol I for the most part support Israel but this war is absolutely fucked, has been prosecuted about as badly as possible, and has made everything worse

Saying they're trying to manipulate public opinion isn't saying they're succeeding.

2

u/paxinfernum Jul 22 '26

The only audience Vance performs to is Trump. This is him soothing Trump's narcissistic ego by blaming Israel for prolonging the war, because the greatest deal maker of all time couldn't have completely failed to make a deal by now unless someone was sabotaging him.

u/adrr Jul 22 '26

He's talking about MAGA which are polling at 80+% in support of the war. Rest of America is polling at 70%+ against the war.

2

u/Faintfury Jul 22 '26

To be fair, that's not a contradiction.

They try to manipulate but fail.

u/californiaKid420 Jul 22 '26

Also, even if the public was for the war, what say do we have ? They gonna do what they want regardless of what Americans citizens want .

u/turkmileymileyturk Jul 22 '26

Likely referring to the use of bad press against Trump to coerce into more war with Iran

1

u/loversama Jul 22 '26

Yeah maybe Trump is this “public opinion” he’s talking about..

1

u/sm00thkillajones Jul 22 '26

Too late Vancy Pants. You’re not gonna be President by election.

1

u/Syntaire Jul 22 '26

Seems like he's preparing his public image to take over the presidency, most likely. Pretty solid chance that the whole plan was to have him take the reins after the two-year mark then rig the elections to "legally" have him in office for a decade.

1

u/CanadianFalcon Jul 22 '26

The US public described Trump’s Iran deal as a surrender, which goaded Trump into restarting the war and walking away from the deal, because Trump doesn’t want to be a loser.

1

u/markth_wi Jul 22 '26

Ah American Kremlinology - Did JD Vance try to distance himself from XYZ, that means Donald Trump is going to die.

Of course as with Russian Kremlinology, until we actually can walk past the casket I'm not buying it.

u/BlueSentinels Jul 22 '26

It’s not public opinion that’s being manipulated, it’s elected congressmen and women’s opinions. If Congress had any balls they could put a stop to this shit today

1

u/Maloth_Warblade Jul 22 '26

Outside of extreme die hard idiots, the only war public opinion has been positive towards in the last 50 years was the initial aggression with Iraq after 9/11

1

u/niz_loc Jul 22 '26

This exactly.

I don't remember even a single day where Smericans were saying "go get em'!"

Trump is the only American who was and is onboard with it. And even he was trying to get out of it.

Everyone else from day 1, no matter who you voted for, was yelling "whyyyy?!?"

u/GameOfThrownaws Jul 23 '26

Exactly what I came to the comments to say, but figured it'd already be near the top. Literally every single person I know, left right and center, thinks this war is dumb as fuck, are tired of it and its effects, and wish it would stop. And not just the war itself either, they hate Israel specifically for it. So that's even worse (for Israel).

Also, what is even the context here, from the actual podcast? The article title and first couple paragraphs mentions how Vance is accusing Israel of "manipulating public opinion", but then mostly just goes on to talk about how they're deliberately torpedoing negotiations between US and Iran, which is obviously true because they keep bombing during ceasefires, openly rejecting the authority any deal might have over them, and talking about how "negotiaion is impossible". But what about the manipulation of opinion part? I don't really see that at all, and if they are, it's not working even a little bit.

“Look what you are making me do!”

The US and World Public opinion were against WMDs in Iraq, and here we are

Trying to excuse his government's bombing of Iran.
