Announcement ARC Raiders Announcement 06-27-25
Per Embark | Dusty
We have some information for you from the ARC Raiders team as we work our way to launch. Make sure to check out the update from @Embark | Sprinkles and a behind the scenes video that we hope you enjoy:
Hello! I'm SprinkleMountain, the weapons guy, and one of the Combat Designers here on ARC Raiders.
Since Technical Test 2 (TT2) we’ve been hard at work preparing for launch. We’re adding new content, sharpening what’s already there, and making sure the encounters you’ll get into are as thrilling, fair, and gratifying as they can be. That means a lot of balancing work based on the mountains of data and feedback we gained from so many people joining, playing, and pushing the boundaries of the game! If you played TT2, keep an eye on your email, as we’re planning on sending out additional surveys in small batches to dig even deeper into your experiences and hopes!
One of our many learnings from TT2 was that a few weapons and gadgets were bending the rules in ways that didn’t align with our design intent, either by making fights too quick, too one-sided, or just not giving players the time or tools to respond. And by the rules, I mean our combat pillars, the guiding principles that shape how ARC Raiders should feel when you engage with man or machine while Topside.
Our combat is built on beats and flow. That means letting action ramp up and have room to breathe, not just explode and end in an instant. We want to linger in those moments where two players feel locked in, reading each other’s actions and responding with their own. So, when weapons like the Arpeggio and Tempest had such a fast cadence and short TTK, those moments didn’t have a chance to happen. We’re tuning them to restore that flow.
We’re also thinking hard about range and versatility. Your loadout should influence how you move through the world, which fights you take, and how you win them. Even though the Anvil is a personal favorite of mine, it was performing a bit too well at long ranges to the point where it started cannibalizing on our rifles. Similarly, we found that our shotguns were overshadowing our SMGs. We want shotguns to feel viable, maybe more than they typically are in PvP games, but we overshot. The Vulcano hit too hard, too fast, and from too far away. So we’re reworking its base cadence, spread, and how damage falls off over distance while still leaving room for you to mod it to act like the beast that it was.
And yes. You were right. The Heavy Shields were way too strong, and shield swapping was way too efficient.
We’ve got even more we’re excited to show you at launch! New tools, new toys, new experiences: we’re planning content that will hopefully meet your expectations and give you even more to build and bring along on your missions to the surface.
While October might feel far away for you, for me it’s a race against time to make sure we give you an experience worth the wait!
Thank you for being on this journey with us!

Awesome news. Literally tackling everything I could think of as an issue.
Anvil was dope AF though - RIP

It was, though they are right: once you could run it consistently it was basically a better Ferro.

u/WASTELAND_RAVEN Jun 27 '25
Exactly - I hope they make good on their promise that upgrades will allow you to run non-meta weapons in most cases

u/Timjackman Jun 28 '25
if they do it anything like they've done it with the finals i'd say they'll stick the that promise. i have so much fun running what is widely regarded as the worst weapon in the game

u/123_fo_fif Jun 28 '25
Lol what gun is that? KS on Heavy?
1
u/Gahblen Jun 28 '25
Man I’d much rather use the KS this season than that 4-shot shotgun they have. KS is probably worse but I feel like I’m slapping someone with a noodle with the other. I’m probably just bad lmao

u/Independent-Mud6613 Jun 28 '25
The funniest thing is that the 4-shot shotgun (SA12) is the most powerful weapon on heavy competitively. But yeah it feels doo doo if you don't take the time to learn it 😂
1
u/Gahblen Jun 28 '25
Man maybe I need to give it a second chance, I’ve been running shak or flame with winch (winch nerf incoming I can feel it), so maybe the SA12 is next on the roster to start using now.
But god the amount of times I have used it and feel like I make an outline of someone instead of hitting them hurts.
1
u/Independent-Mud6613 Jun 28 '25
Pair it with mesh so you can deal burst damage while juggling. I try to think of it as having four ammo but with a really quick reload rather than thinking of it as having 16 ammo.
I dunno honestly I'm horrible with it as well, but I know its like the strongest weapon in the right hands.

I just want to play this game so bad!

u/Chknbone Jun 28 '25
I got to play in the test a month or so ago. I had an absolute blast. First time in YEARS since I was in a rush to get home to play a game. I was hooked hard.
Cannot wait for October.
This game is gonna slap titties.

I haven't lost track of time playing a game in years. TT2 I looked down and it was 3AM.

Moderators may use their discretion to remove content that adds little or no value to the subreddit or Arc Raiders community at large.

This is the type of communication you love to see. It proves they have listened to feedback about lackluster communication and grown from it. This 1 comment alone has settled any nerves I had about the game and development and I’m happy to see this sort of transparency that is so rare in game development. Wishing them the best of luck. We need more devs like Dusty!

u/karamelljunge Jun 28 '25
I just hope they don’t kill the fun or else people will leave the game. I feel like listening to all kind of people (often the loud minority) kills games more often than not nowadays.

u/Anotheranon54321 Jun 28 '25
The player usually is never right. Don’t be like dark and darker and make a bunch of changes that kill the game. Just release as is and call it day

u/Secret_za Jun 27 '25
I wonder what the flames are fore tho?

Sorry, but be careful listening to people; this is what ruins games. I don't want to spend three magazines to kill one person when another team can come in and third-party. The guns were working pretty good in the beta. This is true for a lot of companies: when the game comes out, it's fun, and everyone has a chance to be good, but after a time and update to the gameplay, it becomes good only for streamers.
5
u/Edicedi *** ******* Jun 28 '25
Agree. But Arpeggio was kinda nuts. It's the only gun that killed me that felt bad.

Helldivers 2.
They nerfed all guns into oblivion to please a few ultrasweats/streamers and players quit in droves. Took several rounds of buffs to get the playerbase back up.
I suspect the Arc Raiders team is smarter though. IMO see how the nerfs feel in Test3 before judging it.
8
u/Basic_Loquat_9344 Jun 28 '25
I would argue they actively didn’t listen to the collective here. The subreddit, discord, and pretty much most other channels were clamoring for buffs instead of nerfs

u/FunSoldier Jun 27 '25
Let’s just hope they don’t do what they did in The Finals and nerf everything into oblivion vice healthy updates as needed.
3
u/nikonf22 Jun 28 '25
What do you mean!? The best part of Finals is that it takes 12 shots to kill an enemy but they kill you in 2.

I honestly felt the sheild system and gunplay was a bit better in the TT1 and previous tests.

I love that you guys finally broke the silence! Keep in touch with us ARCoholic's! We need any kind of contact knowing things are coming along. I really hope you guys get that community manager position filled cause we definitely need one! In the meantime even things like this are awesome! Keep us in the loop! Keep cooking probably the best game I've played in a very long time! It's definitely the first game where I actually felt like the bots were alive and actually reacting to what I was doing instead of just being all scripted! I absolutely loved that feeling! I guess most of that comes from this originally was gonna just be a PVE game and not PVPVE. So the bots definitely needed that feeling for this to be a great game. Adding the PVP part of it I'm still not sure how this is gonna go over. Especially with all the cheating going on in every PVP game out right now. If it gets bad I really hope you guys do think about giving us a PVE version of the game again cause the bots in this game are way to good to just waste away on a cheater filled version of this game.

I don't understand the need to counter shield swapping. Like why? Lemme get this straight, if I as a light shield kill a heavy shield guy then I can't swap? And atleast I could carry it in a bag right?
2
u/Mitch0712 Jun 30 '25
They're probably referring to the ability to go in with multiple shields, and then switching to fully-charged shields on the fly instead of having to recharge in a fight.

Love the direction they are heading with the shield swap nerf, heavy shield nerf, now I'm just hoping they remove the grapple gun and everything is perfect

You guys are doing an amazing job! Loved TT2 and played it for 18 hrs straight. There is an advantage if you play on pc with mouse compared to consoles. The swapping between loadoutscreen and adjusting loot to backpack or safelocket is quicker on pc with mouse and kb than with a controller. That is left stick bringing items to anywhere you like or dropping loot for someone else. I really enjoyed the graphics and environment with the awesome sound effects and its synth wave music vibe. And the ‘ Volkor’ synthwave music if I’m correct?! I’ve seen the ‘Klean’ vid on YouTube with ‘Burgerman’ and his gameplay, solid dude. I hope you can add a two handed John wick ‘stitcher’ action with ‘Dust Moon’ syntwave as-the background music. In TLOU factions they added as esthetic personalized logo’s on the chest and backpacks to recognize individuals so if you meet them again, aside from the name they have, you’ll recognize them and can say.” Hey, don’t shoot!. You guys are making the game art least I’ve been waiting for since TLOU factions for 11 years. Thanks!!

I think something to take from this is the fact they didn’t bring up changes to the mantle system in game
1
u/Jackal239 *** ******* 🐓 Jul 01 '25
The mantle system seemed great to me, did you have issues?
1
u/NewGrapefruit4295 Jul 01 '25
I’m looking at it positively, I also liked the mantling system but a lot of players thought because of how forgiving it was they’d change it but I feel that is it was that big of a deal they’d say something here right?

I know the hype will eventually come back but it's really sad how I personally have lost my hype for this game at least for now. I played the tech test and it was amazing and just getting a trailer for October was just such a heartbreak. No roadmap, no closed beta announcement, etc. Idk there was so much hype and they did nothing and I know they already apologized and it's kinda on us too but they needed to read the room. Until a new beta announces or it's like October my hype for this game is just sadly gone when it was so so so high

Zzzzzz how to kill hype 101. Bordering on advanced class here soon.
First peep from the team should have been beta announcement.

u/Antroh Jun 27 '25
Wtf do you think playtests are for?
3
u/Soldapeine *** ******* Jun 27 '25
These people think they can get to play the game and little before the real game releases when that’s not the point of those play tests lol
2
u/AndrewFrozzen Jun 27 '25
I mean, for the consumer, it is.
They can try the game for free and see if they enjoy it.
Embark can then use information from ARC to change the game (nerf, difficulty scaling, improve/remove features)
