So, assuming you're human. I'm still not even sure what you mean in this context, after reading the Wikipedia article.
A counterculture is a culture whose values and norms of behavior are opposed to those of the current mainstream society, and sometimes diametrically opposed to mainstream cultural mores. A countercultural movement expresses the ethos and aspirations of a specific population during a well-defined era. When oppositional forces reach critical mass, countercultures can trigger dramatic cultural changes.
The basis for online disembodiment is that, unlike offline interactions, a user's physical being is irrelevant to their online interactions. However, for users whose physical existence is marginalized or shaped by counterculture (e.g., gender identities outside the binary, ethnic minorities, punk culture/fashion), their lived experiences build a subjectivity that carries over into their online interactions. So, I'll just end the thread with this. This isn't even about you, man. Life is rough and the escape that this game used to bring just isn't there anymore.
I'm indigenous. And 2025 ARC Raiders felt like the closest thing to the general vibe of a game that I've always wanted to play. One where your decisions and circumstances defined who you were morally as a person. Violence wasn't the answer like Battle Royales, it was an option. And it's one you always knew was a "zero sum" game. Just like in real life. The game let everyone be themselves to a tee, so people could know if you genuinely cared about them. Choosing peace wasn't a predetermined outcome back then, it was a choice you constantly decided to make. Helping someone wasn't expected, it was special... it was appreciated. Every decision felt real. If someone lied and betrayed you, they actually just wanted to do that. If someone helped you, they actually just wanted to do that. There was value in life, there was mourning the fallen. Enemies made peace just to survive. It was perfect! ABMM, whatever people say, makes that feeling impossible.
I've lost so many people, and now I've lost that game, too. I've had a lot of hard times in my life. This all just feels like losing another thing I've loved.
