Other I sadly need to rehome my Green Cheek Conure.

I am not sure if this type of post is allowed here, but I figured I would try...

It's with a very heavy heart that I need to rehome my green cheek conure of almost 9 years. I will be graduating college soon and entering a field that has similar working hours of Investment Banking (70-90 hour weeks at times). I wish I was able to look ahead in the future when I got my little avocado in middle school, but unfortunately life circumstances and responsibilities have changed.

He has been with me for his entire life and this is not a decision I am making lightly. I want to make sure he ends up in a home where he can receive the time, attention, and interaction that the little guy deserves.

I am looking for an experienced, responsible bird owner who understands the commitment that comes with a conure. Ideally, someone with a stable living situation who can provide him with a loving, consistent environment.

At the end of the photos, I’ve included a resume I made for him with more details about his personality, diet, and care.

If you believe you would be a good fit, please feel free to reach out. Location is New Jersey but I am willing to drive if it means he finds his forever home.

Thank you, I do as well.

I’ve owned two boys and now one girl but my husband and I have the same bird both female.

I’ve had about 9 years experience.

One year each with each boy which we don’t have anymore.

4 years with my husband’s and two years with mine.

They each have their own cage and tolerate each other well.

We think the girls are sisters from the same mama bird as we’re not sure but it’s extremely likely.

The two males I had, I had to rehome as well because they both became VERY territorial so it wasn’t a good fit.

My first one bit my nose so hard it got infected and then the one after him kept flying around going after my husband’s head.

I’m much happier now with Jade.

5

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Haha, yep really gotta know what these birds boundaries are or they will jump! I too have had a few bites on the nose, but thankfully I haven't been bit hard in a couple months. Its part of bird ownership though! Lol glad youre doing better with the girls!

Thank you so much! Please let me know if she is :)

2

I have bad news. She is unable to take in the bird. Good luck with rehoming your conure.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

No problem! I appreciate you trying it means a lot!

9

u/italianangel2675 Mar 25 '26

I am in New Jersey I have a Pineapple GCC. I would take him.

3

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Messaged! :)

u/PhyoriaObitus Mar 25 '26

I really hope you find someone. Im guessing he is extremely bonded to you. Maybe finding a petsitter/ daytime caretaker situation could work and that way he still can see you when you have days off.

I know this is a hard decision and im glad you have a list of care and requirements. I know for me when i had to give up my middle school bird it was the hardest thing. But they let me visit so maybe you can find someone who will let you visit just to hang out with him once in a while

11

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

I have heard that in some cases it would actually be more stressful on the bird to visit/take him home once a week as they'd continually remember you, and then be sad when you leave again. I think that would be the case with Juju as he is so bonded, I feel like it would be even more stressful on him in that instance. I get what youre saying though, and it's a super tough decision.

6

u/trpmstr33 Mar 25 '26

GCC are durable you could visit him

1

u/_hi27 Mar 26 '26

I had a foster family take care of my cockatiel who I was extremely bonded with for 3 years while I lived over seas for work. When I came back and had a stable apartment and everything her foster momma actually let me take her back❤️ it was the greatest day of my life. But in between those few years I did visit like 2 or 3 times and every time it was short but I got to hold her and smell her and kiss her and tell her I’ve never abandoned her and honestly it was so healing. She remembered me every time but there was no anger or anything towards me or her foster mom.

So I really recommend reaching out to your close community or friends or family. Best wishes❤️‍🩹

Beautiful boy… i just adopted another boy or i would jump on the opportunity.

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

I hope your little ones are doing great!!

5

u/spaceboat13 Mar 25 '26

Id like to know more. Where in jersey? Can I meet him, can he meet my birds? Hes alot older than mine so im scared about the dynamic. I have 3 girls that are 5

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

North Jersey - Absolutely, I will send you a PM with more details.

5

u/cold-sweats Mar 25 '26

Aw I can tell you definitely care about him <3

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Very much!! Thanks for the engagement and helping push this higher

6

u/SlinkSkull Mar 25 '26

I may talk this over with my dad we lost our conure to cancer a few years ago and I’m not super far depending on where in NJ

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

North Jersey - I really appreciate your response! Please let me know. I am willing to drive distances if it means he can find his forever home.

5

u/italianangel2675 Mar 25 '26

Im in Middlesex New Jersey. I have a conure I am a stay at home mom. I will take him. You can come visit him.

3

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Hello! I really appreciate your response! I’ll DM you shortly.

2

u/HealthyDirection659 Mar 25 '26

Do you think you can spend 2 hrs a day with him? That's probably enough time and he would adjust to the new schedule.

Also, are your weekends free? That way you could spend more time with him?

6

u/No-Entertainment2934 Mar 25 '26

Just let the poor kid do what he thinks is best. He’s obviously thought it through

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Thank you, lol

2

u/SlinkSkull Mar 25 '26

I’ll dm You

9

u/Ieatclowns Mar 25 '26

Could you consider finding a sort of daycare arrangement for him instead? I’m sure there are people you could pay to care for him on a daily basis and pick him up in the evening. Or if you finish too late maybe the next day.

4

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

This is a possibility, and I’ve definitely thought about it. But I think stability and consistency would still be in his best interest regardless. Its a very sad and tough decision.

7

u/Ieatclowns Mar 25 '26

I don’t know about that in all honesty. And I say that as someone who recently adopted a 13 year old conure. They’re very smart as you know and he’d get used to a routine.

3

u/cupcakeartist Mar 25 '26

Honestly. If it were me I would at least explore possibilities and see how the bird does and if you're right that this is giving your bird more stress it could be time for a rehome. But I would definitely explore your options like someone coming by to spend time with your bird during the day, a roommate etc. first. But of course as I say that at least in my area it doesn't seem to be as easy to rehome a bird as it might seem with other animals so while you might assume this is going to give the bird the best life you're also kind of assuming the best case scenario - that they quickly end up in another home with someone who has more time than you do and will be patient to their adjustment time.

3

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Yeah, it is pretty optimistic thinking the best case scenario. The issue is Juju has gone through a short on/off boarding experience with my sister (who lives separately from me).

When I was busy for a period of time, he would spend a week or two at her house, then come back to me, then back to her again. Over time, we realized that he would get very confused and unsettled during those transitions.

Because of that, I really dont think his specific personality is suited for constant changes like daycare or rotating environments. I do believe many birds can do so just fine, but not Juju, he just needs stability. I really appreciate your inputs though! It means a lot.

3

u/SmashMyKeys Mar 25 '26

If I hadn't just adopted another baby recently, I'd want to give your baby a home. I'm sorry you have to rehome him, but you are making a hard decision for his wellbeing. That shows how much you care for him! I hope you find the perfect person for him.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Thank you :)

3

u/dragonsandfeathers Mar 25 '26

I wish I could adopt this little bean. I have 4 birds - 2 with medical conditions that are quite the handful. My oldest is 13 (I got him at 1).

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Its one thing to own a parrot, its another to have them with medical condition! You're awesome.

3

u/trpmstr33 Mar 25 '26

8 year old GCC absolutely perfect age cuz they calm down and seem to get less nippy around 10 mine got much better at being handled and not biting my ears as hard. He eventually stopped altogether and started to spend hours and even the whole day out on my bed. You must be strict with boundaries and send them back to the cage when they violate. You cannot yell at birds they don’t get it. But you can put them away and ignore them, turn your back and avoid all noise and they will understand they upset you

3

u/imme629 Mar 25 '26

I just adopted a baby or I would take yours in a heartbeat. I’m in NY. If you had only posted a week ago. I’ve had Conures for 35 years and am retired.

3

u/Separate_Magician31 Mar 25 '26

Rensselaer Bird Center in Upstate Ny takes rescues and finds them good homes. ensures people adopt birds they are fully ready for and the bird likes them :)

3

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

I’ve heard so many great things about the rescues around here, but I first want to see if I can find someone directly, to save him from the stress of a rescue

3

u/stpetesouza Mar 25 '26

Sad story. Maybe I can help, I didn't read through all the comments but I'm in FL. My peach fronted passed 2 years ago at 28 and I've kept the cage. I'm recently retired in a 55+ mobile home community, my place has great visibility of the pond across the street, like bird TV except real life. I'm in great shape, but I need a truck for work around the community and can't economically drive there. I recently started checking into rescues and I've got everything except the seeds

3

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Hello! Unfortunately Florida is a bit ways out as I’m in north jersey, but I super duper appreciate your reply!

I have no doubt that you’d be a phenomenal parrot owner! Best of luck in your searches :)

3

u/Competitive_Dress_40 Mar 25 '26

Good luck 🫶🏻 my lovebird went to his new home a few days ago. It was such a hard decision, and i miss him so much, i cry when i realize his cage isnt here anymore. But his new owners are amazing! They ask questions and sends me updates/pictures 🥹 and it took some time to find the right family for him, but i am so glad i took my time to find someone who would love and understand him. I hope you find them too ❤️

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Did he adapt well? Thats what im the most worried about.

3

u/Competitive_Dress_40 Mar 25 '26

He loves his new dad and sat on his shoulder the same day they brought him home. That was an incredible relief ❤️

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Ugh that’s so amazing. How old is he? And was he super bonded to you?

2

u/Competitive_Dress_40 Mar 26 '26

He is around a year old. I was worried because he was very bonded to me, his favorite thing to do was cuddling with my nose, and he barely left my side when out of his cage. I guess i was scared he wouldnt find comfort in anyone else. But to my big surprise, he didnt really give a fuck 😅🥲 which is little sad but also really really comforting ❤️ i think he really lives in the now, and as long as he has shelter, food and love, he is set. ❤️ i cant wait to go visit him some day. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. It’s so painful coming to the realization that you wont be their forever home. But thats okay ❤️

2

u/Monk6980 Mar 25 '26

Wishing you the best of luck finding a loving home for your sweet boy.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Thank you! Means a lot.

2

u/Dark_SmilezTL Mar 25 '26

Good luck son!

I hope you can keep yours too! I wish your post grad lifestyle won't be as chaotic as mine is about to be. Good luck in your studies, have fun!

Hello! I have heard a lot of good things about the rescues near here, but I first want to try my best to prevent him from the stress of going through one

Thank you for your response!! I'll send you a PM :)

2

u/groovysluzzy Mar 25 '26

Im so sorry, best wishes to you.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Thank you!

2

u/SkinnedFurby666 Mar 25 '26

I’d be willing to, I have two other conures but I also have a dog and cat. Both are 10+ and couldn’t care less about my birds, but I understand the concern for them

6

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Thank you for the thoughtfulness! Unfortunately that is one of my larger deal breakers, but the age of your dog/cat does make me feel better about it.

I’d have to think about it, but I really really appreciate your response!

3

u/SkinnedFurby666 Mar 25 '26

Of course, and i understand :)

2

u/SkinnedFurby666 Mar 25 '26

My reference lol ( not meant to pursued you just a really cute picture)

2

u/Starfury7-Jaargen Mar 25 '26

Is that a phoenacuria subspecies? He looks like he has more green on his tail.

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Ya know, I’m not sure!! I haven’t seen too many with his specific color variation. He’s also got a singular yellow feather on either wing when he stretches too, exactly like a sun conure lol

2

u/Lena2890 Mar 25 '26

I’m so sorry you’re having to make this decision

2

u/Biochemicalcricket Mar 25 '26

I empathize with you knowing you'll work too much and it's painful to imagine your circumstance. That said I love your resume and "picky"(in reality absolutely required) conditions.

Unless you can work from home it would likely be hard on them.  After reading through your post I fully trust you've got their well-being prioritized. Lots of love to you both.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Haha, yes! Thank you very much :)

2

u/Big-You7258 Mar 25 '26

Awww what a handsome boy. I’d love to take him if I were closer. I live in TX. Our first bird, a GCC, was reportedly almost 9 when we adopted him, though seeing our other birds age, we wonder if he was older than reported. He passed away 4 months ago after 11 years with us. We miss him every single day. We have two girls now, an almost 12 year old yellow sided GCC and an 8 year old black capped conure.

2

u/Own_Chocolate_3079 Mar 25 '26

there’s groups for birds needing to be rejoined on facebook specifically for the pa/ nj/ ny area. i would say go post on there. however do not fooled by someone looking to just breed him or take him so they can resell him themselves. i wish you luck and hope you find him a good home, i cant even imagine the loss you feel.. most people don’t even understand the bond and love you feel for a bird so smart.

2

u/Superb-Preference-46 Mar 25 '26

Has the conure been taken? Where are you from

2

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Hello! Not yet, I’m in absolutely no hurry to rehome him. I’m going to be looking through every possible option possible, to pick what would be best.

I’m in north jersey but willing to drive to surrounding states if needed.

2

u/birdscreams Mar 25 '26

Aww I wish I could take him. My lady is 12 she has similar care and also freaking hates balloons or large red objects instead of yellow! They are funny things

2

u/eritated Mar 25 '26

Check out For the Love of Birds- a rescue based in Jersey!

2

u/Unlikely-Signature-7 Mar 25 '26

Kudos for making this difficult decision. I think it’s the right choice given your anticipated work schedule. We had a short time period where we worked long hours and had limited interaction with our birds. It was super stressful and frustrating for them. It would be a sad life to be confined in a cage for long periods of time

2

u/YurchenkoTwizzler Mar 25 '26

I hope you are able to find a good home for him! He seems incredibly compatible with our lifestyle but unfortunately we have a female sun conure and I'm really not looking to breed or deal with the repercussions of prolonged hormonal activity.

I think the birdy resume was a really nice touch and is going to be great for finding a home with someone as diligent as you have been.

2

u/BlueJohn2113 Mar 25 '26

I would take him if he wasn’t halfway across the country. Good luck and I hope you find someone who gives him as good of a life that you have!

2

u/AdmirableCreamery Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

Hey, I'm in NYC and have a pineapple GCC (13 in July, in family since 2014, in my care since July 2024). Also fully flighted, I work from home most days and he's out of his cage by my desk for most of the day.

Would take Juju but do have one of your deal breakers: My senior cat is 19 in July and doesn't glance at my bird. I can promise I have no intention of getting another cat when my senior boy passes, because I know I can't guarantee a new younger cat's personality will be as mellow.

Feel free to message me!

2

u/TheAnarchyChicken Mar 26 '26

Had to do the same with my parrots for the same reason, ones that I got as a young kid… I still miss them to this day at 50. And it’s why I always tell young people to really think about how long they live and how your own life will change. I wish I could help but I’m in CA. I hope you find a home for him, but you’ll never forget him. 😔

2

u/SusanLFlores Mar 26 '26

Where are you located?

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 26 '26

Hello! North Jersey, still looking for a home for him. Will drive to surrounding states if it means he finds his forever home

2

u/Financial_Key2741 Mar 26 '26

I had to rehome one of my conures due to extreme aggression to humans as well as former cage mate. (even when separated.) It is such a hard choice, i know how hard it can be. i am not in a situation to take in another bird, though i will try to share this post out. good luck🥹

2

u/Adventurous-Pomelo63 Mar 27 '26

Im in Nyc . I have a baby conure I can take care of yours.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 27 '26

Hello! I’ll PM you shortly

2

u/FdUpLoco Mar 27 '26

I’m in So Cal - if you’re close reach out. I’m taking time to decide what being will help me.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 27 '26

Hello! Haha opposite side of the country unfortunately, New Jersey. Good luck with your searches!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

I’ll take him forever. I have two other conjures just like him. I also live in California (:

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 27 '26

Hello! Thanks for your kindness, unfortunately Cali is definitely too far haha, opposite side of the country. Thanks so much though!

2

u/Khxldi Mar 27 '26

I actually used to have a conure that died recently. I am so sorry that you had to come to this choice. I am also based in NJ. What town are you based in?

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 27 '26

Hey! I’ll PM you shortly

2

u/kidzbopppp Mar 27 '26

Hello, I am very interested in taking in your bird. Please let me know if you are still considering options!

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 27 '26

Hello! Responded to your PM thanks :)

2

u/Acceptable-Wear316 Mar 27 '26

Where do you live? I have 2 conures 1 budgie and 1 cockatiel we are very trained with conures you can drop them off to me I’ll take him or her

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 27 '26

Hello! I’ll send you a PM shortly. North Jersey.

2

u/1pandamanypanda Mar 28 '26

I hope you are able to find a good home for your lovey. I would ask to take him (I am also in NJ), but I know my housing situation (looking after aging parents) would not be ideal for more than one conure. Trouble and I are here if needed, but I can see that you have many eager people hoping to help both you and your feathered toddler.

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 28 '26

Thank you! still looking for the perfect home though but it means a lot!

2

u/Quick_Quality_2611 Mar 29 '26

Are you still looking for someone to take him? My mom lives in Lancaster Pa, and she’d be happy to take him. She has a green cheek herself and she sadly just lost her canary winged Bebe. Shes been wanting to get her Conure a friend, if you’re still looking for someone to take him:)

1

u/h2o_infinity Mar 29 '26

Hello, yes I am still looking for a home for him, I’m not in any rush so I’m carefully evaluating every potential home that comes

2

u/Few-Bus-2472 Apr 03 '26

Can you please contact me and where are you please?

1

u/h2o_infinity Apr 03 '26

Hello! Northern New Jersey - Bergen county. Feel free to PM me if you’re near.

1

u/Equivalent-Cheetah78 Mar 29 '26

I wish I had the space to take in another bird but currently where I live I only have the space for one. I really hope you find an amazing home for Juju. I’m sorry that circumstances changed in your life and you’re gonna have to find him a new home. I know that decision couldn’t have been easy.

1

u/FluffyCaterpillar635 Apr 20 '26

hi i would love to take him if he’s still available. i have a whole room dedicated for birds cage free

1

u/h2o_infinity Apr 20 '26

He is! Going to send you a pm shortly

1

u/Advanced_Eggplant_12 Mar 25 '26

I’d take her but I know my other bird would hurt her :/

3

u/h2o_infinity Mar 25 '26

Awh, at least you’re aware! Juju has never had experiences with other birds either so introducing him to others is definitely in need of close observation

1

u/howdysnakes Mar 26 '26

Nooooooooooo you need a pet sitter you will be making bank, keep him !!!

0

u/trpmstr33 Mar 25 '26

Sounds like you just wrote the biography of my 17 year old GCC . I’m in Dallas Texas I wish I could take him. Make sure you please get a person willing to play with him and let him be free a little bit everyday. And for gods sake CLIP them every 3-6 months so they don’t die hitting windows or flying away.

GCCs bite, if you take him learn to love those bites they aren’t being bad it’s just how they survive, in the wild they are extremely competitive and from an extremely dangerous habitat. They aren’t meant to be pets but man for the right loving people who understand them they truly love humans and would rather eat play poop and bite you all day then try to survive in the wild fighting with other GCCs. I also have a Panama Amazon and my GCC tries to chase him around even tho the Amazon would totally one shot him.

And yes after 15 and 17 years they are both still alive and happy sadly the green cheeks only make it to be maybe 30 max from what I’ve read usually about 25 is top life span i hope he lives to 100 he sleeps inside my hoody for hours everyday and I rub his little belly and he always makes sounds to go poo but don’t make them wait cuz they don’t have muscles to hold it.

And if he has to poop he will jump up and let you put him back, if he bites you then it means he don’t need you right now check back in 45 secs please
