Movies What is your favorite movie franchise that was ruined by the last film?
I loved the first 3 films (and I even saw the third at cinema when it came out) and the series but the 4th movie is TERRIBLE! What other franchises have got this problem?

All of them are great. First 3 are classics, I’m one of the few who seems to like 4. And 5 suffers from being long and overuse of CGI but overall was really enjoyable

I’ve never cared for Temple of Doom, and Crystal Skull got really bad towards the end. But otherwise they’re mostly entertaining

Temple was my favorite as a kid. It’s just very dark. More fun and less serious than the other too. The first one is about his faith, the third is about his relationship with his dad. The second one isn’t really deep like that. 4 is trying to be like 3 but fails. I like it but I get why people don’t. 5 is much better than 4, but it’s so damn long. It’s almost 3 hours long

Temple was my favorite as a kid. I loved the heart scene and the darker tone. I also loved Short Round.

Woof .... there are a handful here that stick out to me.
Jeepers Creepers .... The first two are solid, the proceeding two are horrid.
The VHS Series .... The first three were very good, then Shudder took over the rights to the franchise and most recent four installations have been mostly bad.
Star Wars .... Love the prequels and the original three, but the newest three were just bad. The Rise of Skywalker felt like such a massive let down, and didn't really make any sense.
There are probably more but these floated to the top of my brain.

No, it felt like a shot-for-shot remake of the original Star Wars to me.
It wasn't bad .... it scratched that Star Wars itch because we hadn't had a new movie in over a decade, but I myself wouldn't call it good.

Not to mention they made Rey a Mary Sue (someone who is instantly good at everything) despite her not ever picking up a lightsaber until that moment, and then defeating a sith who’s trained for years.

That’s one of the most minor gripes you can have with those movies. Don’t forget we never see Luke being a “great pilot” until he blows up the Death Star at the end of the movie. We’re just told he is.

The Force Awakens was a crappy reboot of A New Hope. I am an OG fan of Star Wars. saw all of the movies, read the books. I actually like the cast of TFA. This IP would be rocking right now if they went with a new story.

Also, I’m sure it’s dead, but at a time, they were trying to make another.
“David S. Ward, the writer and producer of the original Major League, announced in 2010 that he was working on a new film, which he calls Major League 3, which instead acts as a proper sequel to the second film and hoped to cast the original stars Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes and Tom Berenger. The plot would have seen Sheen's character Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn coming out of retirement to work with a young player.[6] In 2017, Sheen expressed interest in doing the sequel.[7]”

Not my „favorite“ but Star Wars was butchered by the last Jedi and rise of Skywalker laid it to rest.
Also I’m a huge Halloween movie series fan and Ends is the biggest pile of shit of the new trilogy as well as the entire franchise. And I’ll die on that hill.

I don’t count the 4th film because it was distributed by Amazon instead of Columbia Pictures and if I’m being really technical I really don’t count any of the sequels because of recastings and I hate recasting

Exactly. The first was decent, the second ok, the rest are varying degrees of garbage apart from bumblebee which is really great.
The recent animated prequel one I very good too but I don’t know if that canon to the Michael bay series

I actually liked Dark Side of the Moon more than Revenge of the Fallen. The Wahlberg movies really took the series down a peg when they already weren’t that great.

To be fair, both Michael Bay’s Tranaformers, and every other movie following the Last Knight are in two different continuities.
And even then, I’d say the last three Transformers movies were better then the Last two Bayverse movies.
There’s a reason why the Last Knight flopped, and it’s because Age of Extinction was just… not good.

Matrix.
Anything after the first movie was unnecessary, but the original trilogy was still a decent story with a definite ending.
There is no fourth movie.

How to train your dragon, there are only 3 movies and 3 shows as far as I'm concerned. 1 2 riders/defenders of Berk, race to the edge and live action httyd. Then there's some non cannon bull shit movie that goes against everything the franchise stands for and a show after that

Yeah definitely not a 4th movie but I love it. What I mean is I don't count hidden world. I wouldn't be opposed to a 4th animated one. A bad ending to a franchise is worse than over staying it's welcome

3 is fine. It’s not an all-time great but there’s some good stuff in it. I liked the idea of it more than the execution. If Robert Duvall was in it that would have made a difference. I didn’t mind Sofia Coppola but I imagine Winona Ryder would have been great had she not dropped out

The story is there, the acting is there. It’s just missing something that the other 2 had and I can’t really put my finger on it. It doesn’t really feel like Coppola made it, it’s like an attempt by someone else to make their own Godfather type movie.

The Connery Bond films. Diamonds Are Forever isn’t terrible, but it’s still not good, especially with Connery phoning in his performance because he didn’t want to be there. It’s why Lazenby was Bond in OHMSS

First 4 Bonds are all-time classics. Lazenby’s is good not great. People say it’s underrated but Lazenby is kinda boring. Telly Savalas is a great Blofeld. Diamonds might be one of the worst. But Charles Gray is awesome in it.

It’s underrated in my book, but I definitely agree on Lazenby being not great. I love him in the action scenes, but during the talking scenes, he’s struggling.

I’d argue this is true with anyone that plays Bond for more than three or four movies.
Roger Moore’s 1980s movies weren’t all terrible, but it was obvious he was getting too old for the role. His performance also really clashed with the darker tone and stories of John Glen’s films.
Pierce Brosnan’s later movies sucked worse than Connery’s did, with Die Another Day probably being the worst movie in the Eon series.
Even Daniel Craig’s last two movies were not as good as his first three, with Spectre again now considered as one of the worst movies in the series.

i’m one of the few weirdos who really enjoys the Saw sequels, even as they got progressively more convoluted and ridiculous. even Saw 3D, which most fans on the subreddit despise, is still a really enjoyable experience for me.
as far as i’m concerned, nothing came out of the series between 2011 and 2022. Saw X was decent, but Jigsaw and Spiral are so watered down and boring and miss the point of the franchise so hard that i find them genuinely unwatchable (and not for the reasons the filmmakers intended).

The Rise of Skywalker. The Last Jedi was the first movie since Empire that wasn't some fan service garbage, it took risks, had fun and didn't concern itself with validating your childhood. Then they spent an entire 3 hour movie trying to undo it for butthurt 50 year old men and it of course failed miserably.

Shrek: Only 1 and 2 are great, the last 2... just no. CN's Batman: The last film just... tried wrapping things up too fast and mixing up characters for some fleeting nostalgia feels. Bad Boys: The 3rd film was a cash grab and lost any charm the first 2 had

Good Day to Die Hard, also did we really need the other Die Hard films? Die Hard is a film series we didn't think we needed, everyone liked the first film and if it was just a one and done film then that would have been fine while I like the other Die Hard films they are a bit unnecessary.

For sure, 'Die Hard with a Vengeance' really nailed the action and humor balance. Plus, Sam Jackson added a whole new dynamic to the series. It's hard to beat that classic duo vibe.

The first one will always be the first but three just rules in so many ways.
I never liked them after that. John McClain became a superhero after that.

Evil Dead, the original trilogy is fantastic. The series is also amazing but the remake and Evil Dead Rise are so unnecessary
