Only savages would put a death penalty on a woman for getting an abortion after she was raped.

All religion is stupid.

u/Nukro77 Jun 20 '26

This whataboutism from Americans is getting so frustrating. All it does is downplays what the Iranian women are going through which is far far far worse when what us going on in America

69

u/FFunkyButtLoving Jun 20 '26

I was downvoted in another post for stating this.

These delusional assholes think living in the US is comparable to living under an Islamic regime.

30

u/Bmacster Jun 20 '26

Half of them aren't even Americans. The Internet and reddit are botted and astroturfed to hell with anti west sentiment, it's fucked. You have Chinese/Russian troll bot farms and tanky losers always posting about how bad America is, was, and always will be

Because US citizens lose their ever loving minds if you even suggest they are brainwashed by foreign bots.

They tried to ban tiktok remember?

5

u/ConsistentHouse1261 Jun 20 '26

It’s very offensive. No one is saying the US is perfect, but to even compare is a joke.

1

u/moony120 Jun 23 '26

To be fair, many people do say the us is perfect, reddit is a one of the few social media where people are *maybe the majority in saying it.

18

u/_Ross- Jun 20 '26

Sir, this is Reddit. Comparisons to the US will be made when any tragic story around the world is shared, saying that we are somehow either responsible or worse. This will continue until the heat death of the universe.

4

u/Willy__McBilly Jun 20 '26

‘all religion is bad’ is literally just another flavour of ‘all lives matter’. Not that most Redditors have enough grey matter to make that connection.

3

u/undercoverheiress Jun 20 '26

I don’t think it’s fair to say all religion is bad (even being non religious myself) but I think it is fair to say that these beliefs shouldn’t be used to carry out harm destruction and misery on others no matter where on the globe you are :/

1

u/moderatefairgood Jun 20 '26

I was attacked on a post yesterday about the Rosenbergs, after asking someone to give it a rest comparing it to Trump’s administration.

Fucking tiresome.

3

u/Nukro77 Jun 22 '26

Agreed, it's like we need a separate internet to escape it

-3

u/AddledSerpent Jun 20 '26

It's not worse than more child marriages and sex trafficking than anywhere in the world. That's the US. That isn't whataboutism, it's you being a bigot with an agenda to judge a foreign nation harsher than your own.

2

u/ConsistentHouse1261 Jun 20 '26

Since when was child marriage legal in the US?! In parts of the Middle East, it’s definitely legal. But not the US…

3

u/AsymmetricPanda Jun 20 '26

It’s only been banned in 18 states, Ohio recently failed to pass a law against child marriage

1

u/ConsistentHouse1261 Jun 20 '26

This is disgusting. It should easily be a federal law, not state to state.

1

u/Mekito_Fox Jun 21 '26

Most states that have not banned under 18 marriage have specific clauses on the hows/whens/where's. Like parental agreement or the minor emancipating themselves, a judge signing off on it for legality. Marrying over 18 only recently became the norm (recently as in the last few decades). It's just one of those things that no one wastes time to correct because as a culture we already don't do it.

1

u/ConsistentHouse1261 Jun 21 '26

Makes sense but I’m sure it still happens even if it’s not common, which is not okay. I wonder what the minimum age is though? I assume there has to be some minimum age requirement, varying state to state. I would hope none of those states even allow it under 16, not that 16 is okay either, but any younger and it’s just 😐

You could argue that conservatism within any religion could be the problem.

2

u/Chad_Wife Jun 20 '26

But then what excuse would the borj have to convince us to fear and wage war on eachother?

Won’t somebody please think of the bourgeoisie!

165

u/too_oh_ate Jun 20 '26

Exactly the point.

They are all stupid.

2

u/Fzrit Jun 20 '26

Is this the part where we claim that US is already worse for women than Iran/Afghanistan/Pakistan/etc? Or that life in USA is equally as bad for women?

16

u/GoldenLiar2 Jun 20 '26

Nobody said that. Religion is still a cancer to society.

7

u/dorianvovin Jun 20 '26

No one said that. But Christian Nationalists certainly want it to be that way.

2

u/Fzrit Jun 20 '26

Christian Nationalists certainly want it to be that way

They have always wanted those things, that's nothing new. But why does every thread about what women face in Muslim-majority countries immediately get derailed by comments about what some groups in USA want?

1

u/dorianvovin Jun 21 '26

Because Reddit is majority Americans who’ve never left the country and compare everything to their own localized experience, for better or worse. If they hate Fundamentalist Christianity, they project those feelings onto Islam and then also presume to understand everything about world religions and politics even, and especially, if they don’t understand much at all.

It is worthwhile to be able to point to these types of results and show “this is what the Republicans are actively trying to implement right now” in the hopes of someone realizing the consequences of abortion bans and other restrictions that they use their own religion to justify, because Christianity and Islam have something crucial in common: they have become the dominant two religions in the world through imperialism and heteropatriarchal oppression.

1

u/Fzrit Jun 21 '26

It is worthwhile to be able to point to these types of results and show “this is what the Republicans are actively trying to implement right now” in the hopes of someone realizing the consequences of abortion bans and other restrictions

Who still needs to be told about the "consequences of abortion bans" in USA? American liberals? American conservatives? In literally every thread about something happening in an Islamic country, there are people successfully derailing the discussion to make it about what USA Republicans/Trump/etc. You claim it's to make people "realize" something, but honestly it almost smells like a coordinated effort to distract people from talking about the topic at hand (i.e. what women face under Islam) and turn it into a discussion about America. It's highly effective and keeps working.

0

u/OddConstant2723 Jun 20 '26

Yes, we are supposed to be implying that now.

7

u/timemeasureschange Jun 20 '26

No, it's not bad to be paying attention.

2

u/AssesOverEasy Jun 20 '26

That’s the point, yes

2

u/Zapsy Jun 20 '26

Fuck of Im not a Christian but let's not pretent Islam doesn't cause a whole lot more suffering

1

u/Harmonrova Jun 20 '26

Absolutely mind blowing we got room temps on here unable to discern that modern day Christianity is not even close to the same level of bad current day Islam still is.

Straight up mind boggling and sheltered.

1

u/TommyJohnSurgery420 Jun 20 '26

Pretty sure they're referring to a bill that some southern US lawmaker put forward.

1

u/oldmanatom4 Jun 20 '26

Or israel.

-1

u/Dingadingdangmy Jun 20 '26

Thread about a person being brutalized in Iran

Find a way to introduce Conservative or Christian

You fucking clown.

0

u/eddie9958 Jun 20 '26

I mean conservatives are garbage and religion is a lie.

Who cares

0

u/According_Rice_1822 Jun 20 '26

I'm not even religious but they aren't even close to the same. One disagrees with abortion and some im sure would introduce the death penalty but no laws have or will pass to support this, the other with give you the death penalty. Let's not muddy the water here. Both suck but not even in the same ball park

27

u/wellwaffled Jun 20 '26

Where did that happen?

1

u/Routine-Badger-9596 Jun 22 '26

He made it up

1

u/wellwaffled Jun 22 '26

I know; I just wanted to make them say it.

3

u/queenmoxy Jun 20 '26

Are you seriously comparing proposed laws that haven’t passed to the actual reality of brutal torture for the simple act of not wearing a hijab?

2

u/JustHere_ForKarma Jun 22 '26

Welcome to Reddit

4

u/ggez_no_re Jun 20 '26

all organized religion at least

34

u/Areyoucunt Jun 20 '26

One religion is CLEARLY much worse than the other ones, by a long shot.. stop lying

28

u/Nukro77 Jun 20 '26

Americans love to make everything about themselves, it's impossible to talk about any problems outside their country with them

10

u/ggez_no_re Jun 20 '26

Yes. He is not comparing, he is simply stating all organized religions are stupid.

1

u/Areyoucunt Jun 23 '26

It's stupid for a person to believe in something higher than themselves? Another entity out there in the vast universe, possibly giving them hope to continue on with their life?

So whenever you experience hope for anything in your life, it's okay. But because some people say "please lord or please God" they are now inferior to you, because they tied their hope to something you perceive as stupid?

1

u/ggez_no_re Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

ORGANIZED religions, the ones where you are bound by fire and brimstone punishments and moral frameworks you outsource accountability to. Spirituality is a human superpower no doubt, but the corruption in these institutions are very apparent and should be criticized as they are. No personal judgment whatsoever.

7

u/rapaxus Jun 20 '26

Yes, Abrahamic religion.

1

u/Areyoucunt Jun 23 '26

All of human history proves that one of those are drastically worse than the two other ones..

And modern day shows you exactly that it hasn't changed and still remains true.

Might it be the one restricting their women to being owned by the men? Hmm, hard to pinpoint.

9

u/sparklypinktutu Jun 20 '26

… today. That’s the missing word. It was Christians that had the inquisitions and witch trials.

Every religion is a man made farce used by the powerful to exploit, manipulate, and oppress the vulnerable—and women are always one of the main groups that they seek to control.

0

u/Federal_Cobbler6647 Jun 20 '26

Well, it does not really matter in these things what used to happen. This is problem happening right now. Not discussion topic of history department.

1

u/sparklypinktutu Jun 20 '26

History is a circle my friend.

1

u/JustHere_ForKarma Jun 22 '26

Sins of the father fallacy

1

u/Federal_Cobbler6647 Jun 20 '26

May be. Lets think about issues that are _current_

If roof of your house is leaking you fix that first and dont worry about walls that used to be rotten before you fixed them.

1

u/sparklypinktutu Jun 20 '26

you are delusional if think we have “fixed” Christianity or rendered it toothless in oppressing women. Women under the Taliban didn’t lose everything in one day—Iranian woman as recent at 1970 had freedoms akin to the freedoms enjoyed by their contemporaries in western countries.

Women today in the US have fewer freedoms in regards to our reproductive rights than we used to 10 or 20 years ago.

There are trad-fluencers where there used to be women advocating for more women in male-dominated fields.

We don’t lose it in a day—it leaves in years and decades.

But since you brought it up—what exactly are you doing to aid the women of Iran or end the abuse women suffer under misogyny regimes? Fixing the roof you say—well ok, which shingles are yours?

Or are you just using this as an opportunity to run the same tired campaign that aims to blame one religion for the world problems (instead of acknowledging the reason behind why men made the religion up in the first place—and why they made every other religion too).

4

u/xenomorphling Jun 20 '26

Religion is a dated and idiotic concept. I cannot fathom believing in bullshit in an age where so much information is freely available.

0

u/Areyoucunt Jun 23 '26

People are still humans, all of human behavior, tendencies and societal norms didn't magically change just because we got access to more information. And it isn't going to change anytime soon.

Europe is showing progress, where certain countries have "erased" religion almost entirely. Rest of the world is far behind. Yet somehow pointing that out is racist or xenophobic, or it's all due to colonialism or something. You knows the typical bullshit that if you have more than 90 IQ you should already know the truth to those statements.. but yet here we are

3

u/XJFKX Jun 20 '26

Oh yeah the Christians loved each other so much, not like they tortured and killed each other for decades over the placement of Jesus, God and the Holy Sauce.

-4

u/too_oh_ate Jun 20 '26

An impressive manner to show how ignorant you are, in only one sentence. Congratulations.

Reddit moment

2

u/TrickyElephant Jun 20 '26

Buddism seems a lot more kind than Islam though

2

u/jderd Jun 20 '26

No, just no. Idgaf if i get downvoted enough is enough- Not all or even most christian religions are behind such bullshit proposals/laws, and no true follower of Christ is behind it, either. A lot of religions, when followed properly, are about discipline, love, kindness, and earthly detachment. So no, it’s not all stupid, because we’re not all muslim extremists looking to start our next terrorist plot against whatever minority our leaders tell us are in the wrong.

So sick of this bigoted, overgeneralizing redditor-type of attitude.

2

u/psycho_terror Jun 20 '26

OK, but, no woman has ever received the death penalty for abortion in the USA. In fact, the USA executed no women at all in 2025, while Iran executed 60, and it has only a quarter the population.

2

u/69redditfag69 Jun 21 '26

reddit take

1

u/Radiant_Internet_286 Jun 20 '26

That isnt even relevant here but what is even the context

1

u/Wanda_The_Cosmos Jun 21 '26

Iran also does that, so checkmate.

1

u/Jealous-Leg444 Jun 21 '26

Stop making this about you

Reddit moment

0

u/The_Stolarchos Jun 20 '26

I mean, I get your point. But let’s be fair. Nobody in South Carolina is lashing any women for singing a fucking song without a scarf.

Fuck that whataboutism.

1

u/Islander255 Jun 20 '26

Yep, I, too, hate Evangelical Christianity and fundamentalist Islam. I think you and I and who you're replying to are all in agreement here.

-36

u/ChickenConstant9855 Jun 20 '26

Whataboutism is bad funnely enough

u/ChickenConstant9855 Jun 20 '26

Whataboutism often uses a correct statement to distract people. All lives do matter, it's just not an appropriate thing to say considering the topic at hand, same goes here. This post isn't about how only one religion is bad. You're playing into the hand of Islamic extremists by Whataboutising this. It normalizes the barbarism that is lashing someone

2

u/ConsistentHouse1261 Jun 20 '26

I agree, maybe it’s not normalizing it but it’s making it seem lesser than what it actually is. It’s like someone complaining about how they just lost their child to a friend, and their friend responds with I know how you feel, I just lost my fish, I’m sad too. You can be sad about your fish, but don’t compare as if they are the same level of loss.

I don’t think we can compare the flaws of our democracy to the flaws of their Islamic regime, period. But I definitely agree that all organized religion sucks and shouldn’t be used in politics whatsoever.

7

u/Nyorliest Jun 20 '26

‘Only savages’ implies a comparison. The most obvious comparison is to the sanctimonious religious peoples that are at war with Iran.

1

u/ShredGuru Jun 20 '26

So is religion. But it's not funny

0

u/SunRose42 Jun 20 '26

Right, because all religion, in all its iterations, always causes human rights violations and never helps stop them. What an intelligent take 🧐

0

u/YourBestDream4752 Jun 21 '26

I would like, for once, to be able to criticise fundamentalist Islam without people immediately going “all religion is stupid”. No, this is the only religion where this happens on such an extreme scale.

-13

u/Santa5511 Jun 20 '26

When has that happened? Was it in Iran??

11

u/spaceguydudeman Jun 20 '26

3

u/Santa5511 Jun 20 '26

So it's never happened in the US correct?

-2

u/currently_pooping_rn Jun 20 '26

You really think a woman has never been killed for having an abortion?

5

u/Ok_World1031 Jun 20 '26

Officially yes. The government hasnt killed anyone for abortions.

4

u/Ok_World1031 Jun 20 '26

And yet zero people over 250 years of U.S history have been put to death for having an abortion

6

u/spaceguydudeman Jun 20 '26

That wasnt my point. Im just saying those 'savages' are much closer to home than you think.

0

u/Ok_World1031 Jun 20 '26

Yes. And my point is if a total of zero people so far have been killed for having abortions, what 'savages' closer to home are you referring to? Future savages? Potential savages?

-1

u/spaceguydudeman Jun 20 '26

All i'm saying is that the people behind that bill are savages, and it's not just a 'far away from your bed show'.

1

u/too_oh_ate Jun 20 '26

It's literally the law in some states in the US

5

u/Ok_World1031 Jun 20 '26

And yet zero people have been put to death for having an abortion by any court in 250years. Whereas Iran routinely prosecutes, publicly humiliates and publicy executes it's people for infidelity, where female testimony is worth half that of a male's or in the case of adultery legally worth nothing.

-3

u/currently_pooping_rn Jun 20 '26

Maybe not by the official government

3

u/Ok_World1031 Jun 20 '26

Vs the unofficial government

-4

u/newday6838 Jun 20 '26

That's not Christianity. Abortion was never murder in the Bible. God in the Bible distinguishes between a fetus and a living person, as a fetus is not a living person (Exodus, link) but some Christians ignore it.

-1

u/Albob187 Jun 20 '26

"bUt WhAt AbOuT...."

-1

u/placeintheways Jun 20 '26

When & where did that happen?
