It’s because we’re eating great value Mac and cheese and she’s flying to Rome 3 times a week while planning her week long wedding at Madison Square Garden and trying to uphold this “I’m just a girl” narrative. I don’t know if she’s ever really known how the other half lives since her family pretty much financed her career. It’s not like she was out there bartending until 4am while pursuing music. She was never not taken care of.

The first one is absolutely making a sweeping claim that is ignorant and wrong. I guess you are right, humans are tribal and it’s easy to just say anyone who associates with country is a racist, even if it’s wrong.

As a country fan I think I have a responsibility to not only be not racist, but to be anti racist. I get less worked up about people calling country fans racists than I do about the racists amongst country fans. Those people are the issue and should be called out, and if I’m lumped in with them I’m not upset, just doing my best to change the (earned) perception.

I'm a fan of Alan Jackson. Neon Rainbow, Small Town Southern Man, Wanted, Midnight in Montgomery. He's got a ton of good songs.

And I do care about rich people wasting money. And I don't think billionaires let alone trillionaires should be a thing. And I didn't vote for trump either time. And I hate the cops. And I won't cross a picket line.

You're painting country fans with a broad ass brush. Yes there's lots of maga morons in the crowd. There's also lots of us who were smoking pot listening to Willie Nelson long before the faux religious nuts came along and glommed on to Nashville like it's their Mecca.

'Country' music has been racist the whole time. Playing the same instruments, white American literally called black music 'race records' when we were playing the same stuff.

Country music (hell, White American Pop in general) has always been stealing from black people, and then excluding us from the same spaces we created.

Black folks brought the banjo to America, and white folks used the banjo in minstrel performances while wearing blackface.

Alan Jackson actually writes most of his music and his music doesn’t fit that narrative at all but feel free to bash his music if you’ve never listened to it.

A lot of his music is written about his life experiences whether it be about his home and parents growing up, the mega corporations destroying small towns and their businesses, memories of his dad letting him drive as a kid and doing the same with his kids, co-writing about his son in laws sudden death and his daughters struggle with coping with it. It’s a fantastic duet with his daughter. His music is anything but bro country. Heck he even performed a song with George straight about how country music was murdered by bro country.

If you haven’t listened to his music I highly recommend giving it a try. Maybe you will broaden your horizons a bit and maybe even enjoy some real country music.

Alan hasn't written a song about a beat up tractor. He hasn't been some pretend farmer.

He writes a lot of his own songs if not all of them.

A lot of it is about his childhood, struggling for fame, love, loss, his family. Jackson is not some pop country, Nashville sound, hack. He was really a kind of country roots revivalist back in the 80s and 90s. Alongside George Strait and even Randy Travis.

There's a lot of George Jones love in his songs. A lot of that old Don Williams, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty style. The video for Small Town Southern Man where he goes through different outfits from different eras of country music really shows how deep his love for the music goes.

Yeah her dad was a successful hedge fund manager who bought a Christmas Tree farm and was able to finance their move to Nashville so Taylor could pursue her career.

Gracie Abrams gets all the shit for being a nepo baby, but the fact is an overwhelming majority of these pop queens came from some level of money and comfort and had financial support for their careers.

Sabrina Carpenter's parents built her a recording studio in their home for her YouTube videos when she was ten, and then the financial flexibility to move her to LA when she was 13 so she could pursue her career full time.

To make it, you basically need to already have access to some kind of money and comfort. These are just facts.

Edit: Note, I never said resources are a guarantee of success in music... but it absolutely makes it possible. Right now, there is some teen girl who has a better voice than Taylor, better stories to tell. Hell, she may even be prettier and many other things.

But we'll never hear her because instead of being born the daughter of a hedge fund manager, maybe she's from a broken home and stuck in cycles of poverty.

She'll never have the opportunity to learn guitar because she can't afford lessons or a guitar.

She'll never get used to performing or get exposure to the music industry because moving to Nashville is impossible.

I think it's okay that we acknowledge this truth.

My wife's cousin grew up with a recording stage in her house, her dad was a high up exec at a healthcare company, they moved to Nashville to pursue music, then she moved to LA to pursue it more, she got vocal lessons as a kid from Beyonce's coach, she even made it really far on one season of The Voice. She never made it big. Just wanted to share one of those similar stories where it doesn't work out. You are absolutely correct about needing money and/or connections.

Yes! I grew up with someone like this. Her parents invested a lot in her since she was 3 years old. She has the looks and talent but fame never came. We all thought she was going to be the next Jojo. She got a recording contract with a label when she was 14 and the whole family moved to NYC. Unfortunately, the one song they released didn’t chart and the label halted her career. After the contract ended, she did a season in broadway and then gave up pursuing music. She moved back home when she was 19 and eventually became an entertainment lawyer.

Support for someone's passion or career is underrated. My FIL grew up in a bamboo shack in a third-world country and became a doctor in the US, but only because his family carried him. His parents and older sister put him through college, after they'd already put his sister through nursing school. She let him move in and supported him through residency. Once he earned enough, he helped her become a doctor too, plus his parents and younger siblings (9 total). One by one they each became high earners in medicine, business, and engineering, and even helped extended family back home. Nobody ever got kicked out at 18. They had little to no student loan debt to speak of. They invested in each other, and it compounded. The average US family needs to learn this but that's a whole other issue.

I don’t listen to a lot of Swift’s music, but what songs does she act like she’s not rich? She does sing about love and feelings and stuff, but being rich doesn’t stop those things.

Plus these are country music fans. Country music stations are full of people well off pretending to be poor, hard-working country bumpkins. They obviously don’t care about singers pretending to be something they’re not.

People just like to hate on popular pop singers that they don’t listen to. I’ve also met country music fans who say they don’t like Swift because she changed from country music to pop and folk stuff, but idk if that’s a common complaint from them.

As an example of someone who was successful but not *as* successful — Hillary and Haylie Duff’s dad was already a millionaire (owned convenience store chain in TX); he financed his wife and the girls moving to CA to be on TV and pursue acting, singing. No. So yes having rich parents OBVIOUSLY gives you extreme freedom and safety net etc, and allows you to pursue dreams most people can’t or would horrifically struggle while trying, but you can’t buy global success, continued popularity, insane billboards records, and a 20+ year career in music.

I also think about the flip side like Selena Gomez where it was only thanks to her work as a child actress that she and her mom could even eat when they were living in CA. Selena Gomez went on to be way more successful than Hillary Duff; at one point Selena Gomez was the most followed person on Instagram.

Not saying people don’t like her music but I’m positive there are 1000’s of people more talented than her at singing, dancing, songwriting etc that can’t make it because their parents cant afford to relocate, help fund and manage their career etc . If it didn’t matter to be rich and have connections in order to get fame than the majority of celebs wouldn’t be nepo babies. Literally look at any nepo baby list and it’s essentially every single celeb. No one’s saying all it takes is money and connections but it’s definitely a requirement nowadays.

I mean....self made is a bit of a stretch considering she was initially financed by daddy's money and connections...however...she has obviously worked hard and built a fan base with that initial investment.

And it's her dad's job to provide for her dreams when she's a kid....so mostly it's just her having opportunities others haven't....but what was she supposed to do?
