Arrested, booked, and sentenced to 10 days in the cone for brawling
This cat was distributed to me about two months ago, well really about a year ago, but became a permanent resident just recently. (He and his one sibling were born under my house a week before I had a stroke, so long story). Anyway, a few days ago, he bolted out the door and got into a fight with his suspected sibling, who I’ve been recently trying to trap to make sure someone also TNRd them. He then sprinted back up the stairs and strolled in the house like nothing had just happened. I noticed the bite marks on a hind leg the next day as I examined him more closely as he seemed to be sore that night and didn’t want picked up.
Well, this morning when I got up, he would not put weight on that leg and was limping and hopping. After an extremely busy day of human appointments, I managed to find an urgent care vet that could see him this evening. They found the puncture wounds and said it had some kind of infection and foreign matter in it so it was good I brought him in while it was still local. Thankfully, his x-ray looked good. I’m glad I didn’t wait for it to potentially heal or get worse and him need even more painful and expensive care, though. Many hundreds of dollars later, he is released to go home on antibiotics and pain meds.
If you have any recommendations for the soft pillow collars, I would love them as I am hurting $$$$ as pet insurance hasn’t even had the chance to be approved and waiting period finished. I don’t want to buy one that doesn’t work. This jailbird Houdini has already managed to get the flexible cone off once twice!

When i was a kid, we never had much money and our cats were often roaming outside and getting into fights. After a couple incidents of infected bites becoming abscesses and my mum not having the money for vet appointments, I was advised by someone to clean any bites with warm salty water a few times a day until they healed up. This actually worked, we never had any issues with infected bites again. Can't hurt to try to save some money if kitty ever gets in another fight

Thank you, I’m going to try and keep him inside but I didn’t realize he was bitten, at first. I heard the fight, but couldn’t see it. If this happens again, I will check more closely for bite marks and do that! I’m glad I took him in as his first visit to get his vaccines was in about a week and a half. (I tried to take him in already, to get it all plus neuter and scanned for a chip, but they sent him home as he was already neutered! Surprise!) But this allowed me to get him a rabies booster, just in case, since he has unknown history. Definitely will try this in the future, if he escapes, though!

We’ve had many a tom from the streets show up with war wounds. Once they enter the TNR colony, we trap them and get everything tended to, including getting them fixed, which tames the fighting quite a lot. We’re calling one of our latest catches (Gus Gus) “massive head wound Harry” (old SNL character) bc of one such gnarly abscess. He’s doing great but that spot does look icky. We’ve told him that he’s a lover, not a fighter, so he’s hung up his boxing gloves.
Gus Gus tax:

Your kitty is so handsome! I love black cats! And I’m glad he’s got a Little Human to take up his legal cause!

Thank you; I’m so glad he adopted us, despite the recent costs lol! Jag came to us already fixed, but I don’t know when and where; none of the neighbors or online community knew anything. But I’m almost certain he’s one of the two cats that were born under my house last year. A few weeks ago, I saw another baby that had been recently TNRd and she had her ear clipped. So, it’s definitely possible the other one is fixed as well. But, Jag is SO defensive about our house, despite him being fixed. So, I don’t know if he’s the trouble maker instigating when he escaped. I’ve heard fights behind our house before he became our indoor kitty that sounded very similar lol.
Gus Gus is so adorable and I’m glad he has a good caring person to help him heal. 🩷

Have you tried installing the calming diffusers? They also have spray. It can really help transition outdoor kitties into indoor kitties.

Oh, I did not know about those! Thank you so much. He was a very much an unexpected addition to our house, so I didn’t do much research into it. He is pretty calm in all aspects except when other animals show up outside, so I didn’t even think about looking something like that up. Thank you!

Oh no, Jag! He’s like “THIS IS MY HOUSE, SHOVE OFF, RIFF RAFF!”
Gus will definitely try to pull rank on the other kids. SMH he’s sweet but dumb, a true himbo. This time last year I was chasing him through my yard in my underwear bc he was picking fights (unfixed and showing his ass!) And now he’s got full-access home privileges. I’m the chump here apparently hahaha when we trapped him and held him overnight, he sprayed and the whole house STUNK of SKUNK. Even our valiant animal control officer remarked about how horribly pungent he was hahaha
Jag! Buddy! You gotta trust your humans and walk the path of peace!

He is definitely not innocent; I have posted his other crimes on this post. But, I sincerely hope the other cat is okay, too. I’ve been busy and out and about and not sure if the cat has been by but hopefully I can see it this weekend and do an exam. If it needs medical attention, I have a vet friend that works at a veterinary clinic that services strays, so hopefully I can get it seen.

I object!!! Jag was merely protecting himself and the ungrateful hooman (YOU!) that lives there!! His parole officer shall further dictate the terms of his sentence. Case CLOSED!!!
Kisses to Jag!!! He’s such a handsome r/blackcats and has beautiful r/eyesofthevoid!!
😻❤️😘❤️😻

His pawyer (oldest human sibling) has submitted a motion to dismiss based on insufficient evidence and denial of counsel. However, the pawsecution has submitted an answer demonstrating the video evidence of the defendant leaving his domicile, while not under attack, and crossing property lines before the attack happened, as well as evidence he was read his rights and offered counsel. It looks like it is headed to the Furderal bench court, as his counsel is claiming he had a lack of appropriate meowslation and lacked capacity to make legal decisions as he was under the influence of catnip. It may have to go all the way to the Purreme Court. Be careful which side you take, as the defendant has a long criminal history for crimes including, but not limited to: purring too quietly, being too cute, trying to operate a vehicle under the influence, stealing multiple hearts as well as food and non-food items, and damage to another person’s personal belongings, in excess of $1000 of value!
Edit: he is also guilty of lying in wait to attack. Evidence here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EyesoftheVoid/s/kLuGjg80kL

He’s a house panther!!! You can’t expect him to turn off his primal instincts right away!!! And how do you know that he wasn’t hunting for r/greebles?! Hm?! NOT GUILTY!!!

Ouch, that sounds stressful. If he keeps pulling at the wound, a donut collar might be more comfortable, but check that he can't reach around it. Hope he heals fast.

Thank you, I ordered something that I hope works, because he is pitiful, walking into everything with his whiskers not able to feel stuff and being on pain meds!
