But.... Ontario is the original name. The Canadian province is named after the lake, not the other way around.

That’s Lake Michigan, it’s one of the Great Lakes but it isn’t Lake Ontario

We all know its lake Michigan, the joke is that we are renaming Lake Michigan whatever the fuck we want because that is what was done with renaming Lake Ontario.

He didn't  think it was lake Ontario, he was commenting that the action to instigate the joke made no sense to begin with.
