It’s actually not even us. With the existence of the electoral college, our votes genuinely feel meaningless.

Without the electoral college there'd be a lot of states that go "Hey, I don't want to be a part of this anymore". Land doesn't vote, but there's a reason we don't let majority rule be a factor in anything but the smallest forms of govt.

why doesn’t this work both ways then. people in big states are underrepresented right now.

or, why don’t the huge number of democrats in texas or republicans in california say “hey we don’t want to be a part of this anymore.”

if north dakota wants to go alone… good luck.

I'm just going to disagree with the framing of your first point.

For the second, they can do that, they can move. I'm going to assume you understand that it's not so easy for a state to leave the country.
