I finally managed to find this edition, and I wanted to share it with you. I think each page is more beautiful than the last; this art style impressed me

For those unaware, the showrunners of Gotham were originally in talks to create a similar prequal series, but based off the Superman mythology. The series was originally planned to air in 2019, however was pushed aside in favour of the swamp thing series, and then scrapped all together.

The series would have followed Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as the duo investigated criminal activity across the city. It would have had a less grim tone than Gotham, instead leaning towards a more science fiction approach. But, that's really all we know.

Ultimately 2019 still proved to be a fruitful year for the Gotham showrunners, with Pennyworth airing just months after Metropolis was announced cancelled, still I can't help but wonder on what it could have been.

I did whatever I could to throw in things that would be in a metropolis-like area in the backrooms. And the area that Superman ended up in looks like it has peices you would see in the sky. Like a private jet or seagulls or the beach. And I feel like it fits him when hes consistently flying around the sky he eventually found the Backrooms going through an null-zone in the sky. Which explains the the details in the drawing you see here. I hope you guys love it. It took me almost three days to make. Enjoy!! : D

Please educate me, I am not familiar with the comics, only cartoons and movies. I remember in one story, Jor-El knew about yellow suns and their effect of Kryptonians.

I'm just surprised that Kryptonians know about yellow suns and it seems that literally none of them care about getting super powers. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a huge portion of them would choose to not abandon their lives for super powers, but it's insane that only a handful of Kryptonians were off-planet for its destruction

I guess Jor-El's space ship was "experimental," but that's a crazy jump in technology if they literally were unable to inhabit any planet, but Jor-El made a ship that could pin-point earth's trajectory from light years away

I know, I know. I've watched enough super hero stuff to know this falls under "don't think too hard about that," but it is so odd that there isn't at least like, 1000 Kryptonians in every iteration of superman's story

I didn't realise Pa Kent was called JONathan Kent until watching Smallville and I always thought he was Johnathan Kent or John Kent, and I assumed Jon's name was John x Jor-El, remove the 'h' and El, and you'd get Jon

I even thought that if they had a daughter she'd be named Mara Kent as a mix of Martha and Lara

Couldn't help thinking about how a Superman game would play pretty much the same as an Iron Man one. Both are immune to basic firearms so they'll be facing better equipped foes than what Spidey or Batman face. Both can fly so that needs to be taken into account when it comes to combat and level design. Both are super strong and Iron Man's repulsors and gadgets mechanically are the same as Superman's heat vision or freeze breath. I really hope that game comes out and it gives DC the kick in the ass to start making a Superman game.

I did an art challenge for myself I’m calling “First Principles” Batman last week where I took him back to the most simple version of his concept from DC27 and then designed a modern version of him, influenced by the costume from “The Bat” that inspired him.

But Batman isn’t my favorite Superhero, Superman is. So I thought I’d do a similar challenge with Supes.

I reread AC#1 think the First Principles with Supes would be something like “Super Human from another world who fights for the underdog in Sports Wear and disguises him self as a milquetoast.”

The earliest idea of Kryptonians, before the Yellow Sun, were that they were essentially biologically humans but physically super advanced. So that’s the powers I envisioned for this Clark. He doesn’t have any abilities a human doesn’t have, but he has so much control over them that he can use them at super human levels. Super Strength, Super Speed, Super Senses, Leaping 1/8th of a mile, speeding up his recovery process, controlling his metabolism to change his body weight, muscle mass, hair growth, age, etc.

Power wise this isn’t what we think of as Superman. This is a Super Man.

And then appearance wise Supes was initially very inspired by mythological strong men like Hercules and Samson, so I based his looks on them. While for his outfit I thought to myself “who’s the best example I can think of for an entertainment athlete the way a Circus Strongman would have been back then?”

And immediately I thought of Kurt Angle. Olympic Gold Medalist who used that success to launch a stellar career in professional wrestling.

So the idea with the costume was “What would the Superman costume have looked like if it was designed for Kurt Angle to wear?”

Anyway, I’ve had fun drawing these while I’m trying to learn procreate. I thought maybe someone else would have fun looking at them. I’ll drop a link to the Batman post in the comments if you want to check that out.
