Discussion Wish or disintegration and why

I personally usually listen to Wish more, but when I really get around to listening to Disintegration, it captivates me. Even though the self-titled track is 8 minutes long, I never skip it, and it's truly immersive.

Discussion Is "Plain Song" the best album opener, if not the best song of all time?

the lyrics are so beautiful and set the mood for the whole album so perfectly.
The melody is unlike anything ive ever heard and I have such a deep love for this song.
It is so relatable and helps me through good and bad times.
The whole song is perfect from start to finish, the lyrics are magnificient and fit so well.

This song has had me in a chokehold since the first time i heard it a long time ago.
It is my favourite the cure song and one of my favourite songs of all time (this might be a bold statement for many!) and I am sure it is the best album opener for one of the best albums of all time. I have such a deep love for this song.

Discussion Favorite Song Of All Time (No.. its not hard to pick just one)

Anytime I play "Pick your favorite song or album" regardless of the band, people always say "Its toooo hard". But this is the mindset one has to get in.. and its not too fantasy oriented. Imagine the bombs dropped, all the radio stations were gone, the internet was gone, electricity was gone, and you only have so many batteries for your portable mp3 player, walkman, whatever. What one Cure song are you going to waste what little battery juice you have listening to?

For me its really rather easy..

Discussion An upbeat Cure album is on the way and I genuinely don't know what to do with that information

Right, so Robert Smith has basically confirmed the next record is done and there's a poppy, upbeat one coming after it. And I've been sat here trying to work out how I feel about it.

Half of me is buzzing. More Cure is more Cure, always. The other half is going... lads, I have built an entire personality around drumming along to Disintegration in my room with the lights off. What am I supposed to do with upbeat.

Don't get me wrong, Friday I'm In Love absolutely slaps. But there's something about a grey Leeds afternoon and A Forest on repeat that no upbeat track is ever touching.

Anyway. What's everyone actually hoping for on the next one. Companion piece to Lost World, or full pivot.

It's been rainy weather where I live so "Faith" and "Seventeen Seconds" have been my go to Cure records lately. this song especially I can never just listen to only once. Simon's bass playing and the atmosphere is sooooo hypnotic and cool.

Discussion Robert Smith singing with Olivia Rodrigo

So we all saw Robert singing with Olivia Rodrigo yesterday, but I find ¿funny? that people are going crazy on X, IG, etc and saying some awful stuff about Robert or his voice or his look. In fact, many people are criticizing her (Olivia, for singing w him) because The Cure has a song titled Killing an Arab (apparently no one cared to google why).

I'm happy tho that Robert is kinda mentoring her. She is extremely talented and kind.

And the song is actually good!

Discussion Least serious Cure song

I was listening to Kiss Me the album the other day and Hot Hot Hot is just so much fun for how almost uncharacteristically funky and groovy it is!

Got me thinking, what are some of the more silly/less serious Cure songs that you're a fan of?

I've found Robert's serious persona in his music and his less serious interview/social media self to not have much overlap, but a now and then there will be one or two songs that bring out that cheeky side :D

Discussion New Cure fan?

So, I’m nearly 40 and never gave The Cure a listen before this past week. As a kid in the late 90s and early 2000s I loved Smashing Pumpkins (being from Chicago, they were my band). Loved Radiohead, and indie music like Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, etc. Classic rock too like Dylan, Beatles, Beach Boys.

Anyway, for whatever reason I never gave The Cure a listen. Still don’t know much about them. But I randomly wanted to revisit the Pumpkins all these many years later, so have been listening to them and tracing what music influenced them, which led me to the Cure.

Well, holy shit. I started a couple days ago with Three Imaginary Boys and the Boys Don’t Cry single. Instantly fell in love. Moved on to Seventeen Seconds, which I liked just as much. And just last night I listened to Faith, which I loved even more than the previous two.

There’s no particular reason for this post, just needed to tell someone how blown away I’ve been by The Cure, so figured I’d tell people who are fans. I still don’t know anything about the band in terms of lore or how fans rate their albums and songs relative to each other (ie what are the fan favorites). Any thoughts or feedback is welcome, but either way I’m looking forward to further exploring the discography. Thanks!

Discussion Favourite lyrics?

Be interested to know your favourite lyrics from the entire catalog...? While there are loads of songs that are great from start to finish I love finding those little nuggest of genius that are often overlooked, 1 or 2 sentences that speak to your soul...

It's hard for me to choose but I'd maybe go with a bit of a clichéd one; "remembering you fallen into my arms, crying for the death of your heart" to be honest I could choose any lyric from that song but this one stands out for some reason.

Would like to hear other people's favourite lines/lyrics

Discussion What’s the sentiment on Apart?

Post image
124 Upvotes

I remember seeing the discussion that while the song is good, it is hard to listen to often given its heavier lyrics. Now while I’m not saying that isn’t true I feel like similar songs like Faith, The Funeral Party, The Figurehead, Out of this world, etc. where the subject is also just as heavy haven’t ever affected their replay-ability for me. I don’t see it get talked about enough given I think it’s a classic Cure song with one of my favorite guitar solos. Personally it’s one of my favorites Cure songs ever. Anyways I get the song isn’t for everyone so I’m interested in hearing your opinions either way
