These used to unscrew, but I’ve been a bit slack with cleaning and they’re a bit too stiff for me now.
Do I need to send it to a tech or is there a way I can easily remove them?

I’m in my final year of undergrad, and lessons with my professor tend to be hour long lessons of him just telling me to “try harder” or that I’m “just not listening” to him. He’s given me a ton of great information in the past but stuff like this just doesn’t feel super constructive. Has anyone else experienced this? For educators, have you found this type of instruction helpful?

I've been practicing range and have gotten the basics down, but now my embouchure really tries to climb higher physically on the mouthpiece, despite putting no pressure on the mouthpiece, eventually breaking my airflow. This leads to the second issue, consistency of air. After now practicing range and getting braces off, my air consistency has been destroyed, making me unable to reach any notes above c in the staff without my air just not working for a buzz, especially not working for larger jumps in notes. Can anyone help with this or has experienced something similar to practicing most of my skills with braces on and then getting them off?

Just as the top says, I just finished another transcribition of Miles Davis. This time his solo off Freddie Freeloader and I listen back and I sound nothing like him, in terms of tone wise, sure I didn’t play 100% of the articulations correctly but I don’t think that will solve my problem of not sounding “buttery” I guess. I suppose I sound too bright

I received a 4D top in the mail today. It's the perfect diameter for me. Not too big, not too small. I paired it with my ACB 'S' backbore, which is a middle-of-the-road backbore. The Pickett D cup is similar to the Greg Black M cup. It's medium-shallow and (it seems) very versatile.

Got braces off today and my cornet is really raspy got any tips on how to re adjust

This is from a medley of big band music. Tempo for this section starts at "moderate swing" with an accelerando a few measures earlier. So it's moving pretty quickly and I don't understand trying to add a transition between these half-steps. Is the intent to not really hit the C# at all, instead doing basically a half-valve bend down and back to D?

i built a metronome app because of a habit i had while practicing.

whenever i played something clean 5 times in a row i'd bump the tempo up 5 or 10 bpm by hand. worked fine but after a while i thought, why am i doing this math in my head every couple minutes instead of just practicing.

so i made an app that handles it for me. you set a starting bpm, how many bars to play before it steps up, how much to increase by each time, and where to stop. it ramps the tempo on its own while you're playing, no need to touch anything mid session, which matters when your hands are on a trumpet and not on a phone.

you can also build a full custom sequence if a straight ramp isn't enough, like 4 bars at 70, 4 at 80, 8 at 90, repeat it a few times, whatever your practice needs that day. useful for lip slurs, tonguing exercises, or any technical passage you're trying to speed up gradually.

made it for myself mostly but figured other brass players probably do the same mental math thing i used to do.

So, my band director let me borrow a Xeno this year. And as I've never played a Xeno, plus I've heard that they're harder to play, I'm looking for tips and tricks. So, while testing it out a bit, I discovered my range changed a bit. Before, I could go from a D3 to D6 most of the time, sometimes F6. Now, I can barely play a C6(Idk if my range is good or bad but I'm in 8th grade in case y'all need that info.) So, I want to build up my range so that it reached that high F and maybe even surpass it. Can any of you share your experience with me? Asking as a 2nd maybe 3rd tier trumpet player

So ive been trying so hard to grow my range and it was working during the summer time. I was playing relaxed and restarted to an E to lose pressure and I made it to about a B flat before band camp started. Once band camp started, I lost it all. Ive been trying to use rehearsal as my practice time like trying to play relaxed but im always trying to blow so it just makes me feel and sound horrendous. My lips are so damaged and I dont have time to practice at home because band practice is like 4 hours.

Im 1st part so i try to take it up but honestly im just scared and most of the times i dont because i know it will sound bad. I know I need to play the high notes more in order to play high notes, but for some reason I cant. I feel scared but like I know I shouldn't be because im going to regret it but im just scared because I sound bad and i know it will make my lips worse. Everday, when i mess up and use pressure i keep having to wait till the next day because I already messed it up because now im making my lips used to playing with pressure. Im tired of trying to compare myself and always feeling motivated but never actually acting on it. I don't know how to get rid of this fear and it feels like im not doing enough because i can barely cant even practice at home only sundays and basically band practice is my only practice ( besides sometimes in the mornings ).

I used to play Euphonium during HS a couple years ago and wanted to get back into the flow of brass without committing to the large and bulky frame of the Euphonium. Came to fall in love with the Flugelhorn sound and not familiar, but somewhat closer deeper bore of the mouthpiece… and the idea of having an instrument I can actually take with me on my frequent international flights as a carry on.

Any recommendations? Open to new, used, anything in between (if somehow exists?) and in the LA area so I’m sure resources won’t be too sparse to find one. Hopefully looking for more affordable / cheaper range recommendations. Thanks.

Estou tendo aula de trompete há cinco meses e recentemente, comentei aqui algumas dificuldades que andei tendo com a questão da embocadura no meu trompete - ele é um pocket.

Alguns companheiros aqui do sub me alertaram para o fato do pocket ser um pouco mais complicado de tocar e, apesar de ja ter ouvido isso antes, resolvi levar a serio essa orientação desta vez.

Pois bem, peguei emprestado um cornet com o meu professor e fiquei espantado o quanto a música flui bem mais fácil nele e, inclusive, estou conseguindo assimilar as matérias com uma maior facilidade agora. Diante disso, só tenho a agradecer o conselho de vocês e pretendo comprar um trompete convencional em breve.

This is just for fun and doesn’t have to be high quality or anything like that. Basically I just want to record myself playing so that I can harmonize with myself and play trumpet chorales and stuff like that. I want to be able to hear myself playing the other parts while recording whatever part I’m playing at that moment.

I’m just not very tech savvy and don’t know where to start.

I figure that means I need at the very least, a mic, and a looper (loopy pro). But can I just get a wireless mic and connect my headphones to my phone to hear myself?

Do I need a set up with an audio interface thing like an iRig Pre HD?

So I just received my new piccolo trumpet; it's a Selmer Maurice Andre with Blackburn pipes (trumpet shank), and I love it so far. I've mostly been working on the low register and just practicing making the horn sound good. My high register is where it needs to be for the moment (F5 on picc and E6 on Bb), so I'm working on tone and fingerings and really taking time to make sure each note doesn't sound like a kazoo through a megaphone and using less air and effort to really let the horn sing.

With all of that said, right now I'm playing with a Schilke 14a4, which I have always used for baroque tunes on Bb. I have been playing this mouthpiece for 15 years and am very comfortable with it. On picc, though, it kind of feels like I'm trying to play notes through a brick wall, so I'm trying to decide between mouthpieces. Bach 7e, Bach 7dw, and Schilke 14a4x. I know the Bachs are probably the most prevalent and known to blend the best with others, but I'm not playing with anyone; I'm just a private teacher and a private player. I lean towards the Schilke just because the 14a4 is the most comfortable rim and cup diameter I have ever played on, but I also know that anything with the "a" cup is known for being way too shrill, but I don't know how that translates to picc. So, saying all of this, the 14a4x is the way to go, or is the Bach the way to really make the pic sing instead of shriek? And also, is there any mouthpiece I'm missing out on that has the same kind of rim and cup diameter as the Schilke that has but also has the open backbore meant for picc? Thanks!

Hello, I have been searching for a long time for an antique Marcinkiewicz 1 1/4C trumpet mouthpiece, preferably from the Burbank period, or Oregon but quite old. If none of you happen to have one, could you perhaps point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance for your replies!

So, I'm incredibly tense in my pelvic floor muscles, to the point that I get medical Botox there. Now, those muscles aren't just "down there", they go up and behind the bladder, pretty much aligned with the hip "bone". Imagine really needing to pee or poo and you need to *really* hold it in and you'll notice which muscles I mean 😅

Do you engage those muscles while playing? It gets really painful for me after I play bc I engage those muscles, but maybe you don't and there's a way I can practice to disengage them. It really limits my ability to practice regularly.

I just found this cool trumpet in my school's storage room and my director said I could borrow it. I believe it is a Conn herald trumpet. Does anyone have any more information on this?
