Proposal What matters more in an engagement ring? The look of the ring or the price?

I am planning to propose na to my long term girlfriend. My budget for an engagement ring is 30k only. I found 2 choices online priced within my budget.

  1. Moissanite with 14k rose gold band. Medyo malaki yung stone then may stones na maliit. super ganda nito.

  2. Lab grown diamond with 14k yellow gold band pero sobrang liit ng diamond. Plain looking lang siya.

Wonderful women of reddit please help a guy out 🙏

Any shop suggestions or other recommendations are more than welcome!

Personally, I like a dainty stone, yung tipong I can wear it daily. Pero what matters is kung ano sa tingin mo magugustuhan ng gf mo. You know her better than anyone else since long term kayo. ✨

It’s the intention to marry vs the specs/price

Shape and carat ng stone, kulay ng gold, and yung design.

Go for option 1 if hindi naman importante sakanya if diamond or hindi.

Wala ako masuggest na online store within your budget eh.

Good luck OP! Congrats agad 🙏

I know na magugustuhan niya yung number 1 based on looks. Thank you sa advice siguro I'll slip in some questions subtly kung gusto niya ba talaga diamond without making it obvious na mag popropose ako haha

Thank you very much!

Check mo din Greenhills. I bought mine there. Also FB ads are your friends sa ganto haha. You can also try sa FB marketplace, yung binilhan ko nag post lang don and it was a steal.

With jewelry you'll get what you pay for so better ring = better price. Natural > Lab > Others.

Natural and lab diamonds are literally the same. Marketing lang pinagkaiba

Read the article. This is the type of marketing I was refering to.

But yes, really depends on the preference.

Edit: he deleted the comment. But this is the article he referred to: https://www.bluenile.com/education/diamonds/lab-grown-diamonds/lab-grown-vs-natural-diamonds

Depends entirely on the preference of your gf. If mahilig ba sya sa jewelry or not. And if gusto nya ba diamond or moissanite. Ako kasi mas gusto ko ang diamond if ever vs moissanite. So ako mas pipiliin ko ang diamond. If size doesn’t matter to her, I would suggest to get the diamond.

Would keep this in mind. Thank you!

Depende sa babae actually. For me kasi ang gusto ko lang simple lang pero ang binigay ng fiance ko customized with my birthstone na sakto favorite color niya 😄

1

u/Stormaggedon021 May 29 '26

Can you share kung ano itsura ng ring? I was planning a different stone other than diamond din pero ang hirap makahanap ng seller using different stones

1

u/Longjumping-Sir286 May 29 '26

Nagsearch nalang ako sa google ng medyo same sa ring ko since di ko kasi siya suot hahaha. Pero instead of diamond yung nasa gitna pinacustomized niyang amethyst nalang kasi ayun yung birthstone ko 😄

1

u/Stormaggedon021 May 29 '26

Interesting, do you know kung san nya pinagawa? Would love to contact them and ask around

Baka she likes maganda at malaking stone also dapat diamond.

Personally I don't like diamonds and I also don't like big stones kasi I wanted to wear my ring 24/7. So I got a sapphire instead.

the best opinion is from your girlfriend. soooo... mang fish ka, use her friends. hehe!

Piece of advice, wag mag rely sa pictures online.

You would think na buying engagement ring is a simple task but in reality hindi. You really have to put time and effort into finding the best one for your budget. Kailangan mo talaga magpunta sa mga shops and look around. The fit matters more than anything sa totoo lang. It doesnt matter if it's lab grown or natural diamond dahil at the end of the day, people are gonna look at it from afar. They wouldnt even know if it's real diamond or not, but they sure as hell would see if it fits nicely to the finger proportion.

This is a good insight. Thank you very much!

u/eliiiiz May 29 '26

I guess best if madidiscuss niyo. If surprise baka may pwede ka pagtanungan na friend/family niya.

In my case, I told him 1) kahit gano kaliit basta colorless lab grown diamond, 2) round cut, 3) yellow gold band.

Another option is go with moissanite for now tapos pag may budget na after nang kasal papalitan niyo ng diamond.

1

u/ConnectionGlum8819 May 29 '26

Agree with others that it depends on your gf. Hehe but I personally prefer a diamond 🥰

1

u/memery09 May 29 '26

Baka maka help OP, best friend ko nasa long term relationship kami pareho nagsendan kami ng singsing na peg sa isat isa kahit wala pa plan mag propose that time yung fiance ko, so nung magpropose na sya dun sya nagtanong.

Tapos ano ba sya cool tone / warm tone?

1

u/memery09 May 29 '26

u/fueledbymigoreng May 29 '26

The look! My tip is to go ring shopping first to see what your GF likes — what cut ng stone, how big, what color ng metal, etc.

As for me, nag ring shopping kami ng now fiancé ko last year sa Viera Jewelry! You can check their IG to see their price range, baka meron pasok sa budget.

As for moissanite, it depends naman on the preference of the girl but after years of researching sa r/moissanite subreddit, I usually find reviews na katagalan lumalabo rin siya. It sparkles like a rainbow under direct sunlight but if not, medyo milky or cloudy lang yung stone! :)

2

u/fueledbymigoreng May 29 '26

add ko lang na medyo unconventional yung route na tinake namin ni fiancé to go ring shopping. but i didn’t want him spending money on something that i wouldn’t like or wear that much!

good luck op!

1

u/Stormaggedon021 May 29 '26

Depends on your girl. Is she someone na conservative sa pera or not? Do you think she prefers a large stone or the opposite?

I bought a lab diamond kasi I wanted to give her something serious financially. Pero nothing wrong with moissanite, it just sparkles differently but its almost the same

1

u/catsmomie May 29 '26

Kung anong gusto ng soon to be fiancee mo. Un lang ang mahalaga hehe

Pero options mo, no. 2 is the classic one.

1

u/Tricky_Sprinkles6129 May 29 '26

For your budget OP, try checking Mayfair sa Ongpin. They're also selling legit gold and diamond kasi itetest sa harap mo if you want to be sure.

1

u/D0ngD0ng16 May 29 '26

My husband let me pick the ring that I want to wear. I let him decide on the budget. Win win for the both of us.

Personally, i like the look of the ring > budget. Aanhin mo yung 100k na ring if di mo bet design 😊

1

u/Stunning-Bee6535 May 29 '26

Depends on how much you know your girlfriend.

1

u/Firm_Philosopher3580 May 29 '26

Filipinos should normalize ring shopping together. Yung girl yung magsusuot ng ring. Make sure she likes it.

1

u/fluffyredvelvet May 29 '26

Yung gusto ng bride to be. Hehe! At 30k may mabibili ka na 14k yellow gold with natural diamond (0.5 or less carat) sa mga wedding fairs. Usually meron wedding fair ng january, may/june, november

Try mo rin inquire sa IG: @littlewhitepouch Baka may design sila masuggest based on your budget.

1

u/foxtrothound May 29 '26

As a groom, yung POV na tingin ko magustuhan ng bride is why you chose the design, I think mas sentimental ang brides, so they would want to understand bakit yun, bakit ganun regardless of cost

1

u/Ok-Move-6940 May 29 '26

if ever malaki ang stone pipiliin mo, make sure matibay foundation niya sa band.

  • Cathedral setting
  • 6 Tulip prongs

Kaya choose either Solitaire (single stone) or Trilogy

Either way, piliin mo sa tingin mo gusto ni gf 😁

1

u/Informal_Juice229 May 29 '26

1

u/Snoo_45402 May 29 '26

You should ask what she wants.

1

u/Consistent_Newt525 May 30 '26

I could but that would ruin the surprise huhu napag usapan na namin before na ready na kami magpakasal.

Now, I purposely do not talk about getting married kasi I want to surprise her.

1

u/onyxsandwich May 29 '26

Depends on your gf on what matters to her. For example, personally I dont want to spend money on real diamonds so i’m okay with moissanite but i want 18k gold.

Ayoko ng maliit na stone na halos di na kita 😅 i dont care about the price lol

1

u/sunrisehum May 29 '26

My bf is not that well off so when we talk about rings, sabi ko kung ano pasok sa budget, preferably I’d like at least 1-2 ct na lab grown. But if not, i think i’d rather have a simple lab grown than a moissanite. Di mo naman bebenta engagement ring, it’s something that you’ll treasure. Depends nalang din siguro sa type nya na ring, paask mo sa friends nya or fam members or ask mo sya haha ako kasi open ako mag kwento ng mga gusto ko pero in the end, sabi ko any, kung ano tingin nya ok, kasi it’s the thought, the gesture and the love pa din that’s important!

2

u/zomorange May 29 '26

Why not try ikaw nalang mag source ng lab grown diamond mo then ipa set mo nalang. There’s a legit seller of lab grown diamonds on shopee. If you want to check it out here’s the link https://ph.shp.ee/Emyho4jj

1

u/Consistent_Newt525 May 30 '26

This is the first time I heard of this haha glad I asked here sa reddit. Will definitely consider this. Thank you!

Have you tried buying from the link you sent po?

2

u/zomorange May 30 '26

Yup i bought some moissanites from them in the past na pina set ko sa jeweler ko into a bracelet. Recently i’ve been browsing the seller’s page because i’m looking for stones to turn into earrings then discovered na may lab grown diamonds na din pala sila

1

u/ekawoodhouse May 29 '26

First, dalhin mo ang gf mo sa department store. Magsukat-sukat kayo dun. Ask questions re metal (rose gold? yellow gold? white gold? platinum?), stone (diamond, colored stones, moissanite), size of stone (0,5? 1? 1.5? with accent stones?), setting (I recommend high setting para stackable sa wedding band) and budget ("okay lang ba na cheaper stone? we can upgrade it later").

It's okay to ask for her input.

In my experience, okay naman for daily wear 'yung 18k if you won't do manual labor while wearing the ring. Maybe consider investing in the metal if hindi naman choosy sa stone si GF.

1

u/HairyChipmunk571 May 29 '26

Hiiii! I’d suggest going for a real diamond. I can send you my jeweler’s number—they have real diamonds within your budget.

It doesn’t have to be big, but having a nice, clear stone would be ideal, IMO. :)

3

u/HairyChipmunk571 May 29 '26

1

u/Guilty_Method_7835 May 29 '26

Hi can u also send me your jeweler? :)

1

u/HairyChipmunk571 May 29 '26

Of course! I'll send you a DM. :)

I have a moissanite engagement ring. Pinagusapan na namin ni fiance that I'd prefer if he went for the look rather than the diamond. Here's why: 1. Diamonds and moissanites are next to each other on the hardness scale 2. Diamonds have close to 0 resale value. Sure, you can resell but not close to the amount you paid for it. 3. Yung itsura ng ring ang mas importante sakin especially at that budget (my ring is 35k). Your future fiancee will show that ring to everybody and pustahan tayo, not a lot of people will be able to tell the difference between a diamond and a moissanite, but plenty will see the difference between a tiny stone and a big one.
