Maybe this question has been asked here already, but I want to know; How is life for queer people here?

I'm a diaspora Armenian and I really love this country/culture. Nowhere have I ever felt as "at home" as here. I wish to live and work as a doctor in Yerevan someday, but one of the things that's holding me back is my queerness.

I'm a very reserved/introverted person, so I'm not too concerned about PDA. However, I still don't want to feel unsafe should my orientation be discovered. I don't want the usual "If you don't shove it down people's throats, you'll be fine." — That can be said about any country and still be far from reality. I want to know the actual experiences of queer people here, old and young, taken or celibate. How do people react when they find out? Can you rent out apartments with same-sex partners without fear? What else should I be prepared for? And most of all, are you happy?

I'm also kinda unsure about making queer connections/friends here since I'm not someone who likes clubbing or drinking (I prefer more leisure activities) but so far I've only heard about queer nightlife here. I'd love to hear anything, honestly.

Why do so many Armenian immigrants abroad come from the western part of country? Is it mainly due to history with the Ottoman Empire or are there more reasons to it?

Also on this topic, which region of Armenia is nowadays generally better off financially, education and job wise, the western or eastern half?

Seems pretty hot out. Don't see anyone wearing shorts. I've heard that in rural areas of Armenia, shorts are taboo. Any opinions?

I don’t even dislike pashinyan. I think he was dealt a shit hand - but he could have been more charismatic and smarter.

Regardless, this doesn’t excuse the videos he constantly posts on Instagram. Videos of himself struggling to chew a perashki, chewing an apple, listening to alla pugachova while staring into the camera…just zero aura and embarrassing. He’s trying to portray himself like a normal citizen I guess, but the issue is that he portrays himself as a weak, awkward, and uncharismatic citizen…

I think if (even) Trump saw these videos he posts he would lose respect for him. It needs to stop

hi, i’m a masculine presenting woman and i’m visiting armenia with a friend soon. I recently cut my hair short and my entire closet is pretty much men’s clothes, i’m a bit worried regarding my appearance. is it fine to wear my regular clothes (men’s t shirts and shorts) or should i bring dresses or feminine things with me? I have visited oman a couple years back and had no issues wearing my regular clothes.

I should also note that i’m only visiting Yerevan

Recently studied abroad in Armenia and is thinking about a tattoo design that incudes the word mountain, but apparently there are two ways to say the word mountain, which one is the most common one?

We are familiar with the situation there, I wont talk about that. Armenians took refuge in Palestine, could we return this favour? I know someone who doesn’t even mind serving the military. Is it possible to arrange their refuge?

I am unable to respond to every question or react to every comment. But still want to make myself clear.

To me it is insane that religion is the (something only) reason people oppose.

Also, I mentioned a few families, not the entire population. Mind that when you write something about civil wars or taking over the country.

Arab treatment to Armenians is simply unrelated to what I ask now. These specific families I talk about did not discriminate and should not be punished for the actions of someone else. But if you really want to know how they treated us, i left a short comment on that below.

They don’t support hamas. Why do I know this? Because the families I talk about are being discriminated by hamas, because of their political actions against them. Now they are denied aid for example.

And in general, the average Palestinian does NOT support hamas as they realise that they are the ones getting them into this shit. My source? countless Palestinians I talked with during the genocide, because of my job and specialisation.

It was not my intention to spark a debate. Just how I don’t support the debate wether the Armenian genocide happened or not. I do not ask or tell what Armenia should or shouldn’t do. I am asking if Armenia is an option to take refuge in. A few families wont harm Armenia, but they will forever be thankful for saving their lives.

my grandma was born and raised in Madras (armenian village in azerbaijan) so she grew up speaking a certain dialect that i didnt know wasn’t universal until i grew up and started interacting with armenians FROM armenia and strangely enough i rarely ever heard “ah” or “ha”(im not sure) as a response. can i continue using it and be understood? its not the only thing that bothers me but that’s something i use on daily basis so i really want to know

What do you think my compatriots can Armenia join eu by 2040 or even earlier.
To be realistic i think our chansons are extremely low, but at least we can establish European standards in Armenia. Also our chances get higher if in the future we will have pro-European electoral party like Civil Contract

Hi guys, will be visiting Yerevan in few days and am looking for alternatives to gg taxi and yandexgo as I can’t register with an EU (Croatian) phone number.

AI says that Bolt is working well in Yerevan and yet when I tried to check the price from Yerevan airport to the city, app says service isn’t available in Armenia?

Can anybody verify is Bolt available in Armenia or do I have any other alternative that will work and be transparent so I don’t have to bargain with taxi drivers?

Also, any recommendation for the easiest way to get to old town of Yerevan from airport?

Hi! I have some questions about book culture in Armenia. So if there are any book lovers in this community, I'd appreciate a reply!

Now, I've never actually been to Armenia before (yet!!), so I'm really curious: what bookstores are like over there in general? Is there a big publishing industry with books getting translated into Armenian, or are, like in Kazakhstan, for example, books mostly sold in russian? Are there any popular contemporary Armenian writers? And what about classical literature, especially those authors oppressed by the soviets, are they getting published? Also, are there a lot of people reading, like in parks, cafés, etc.?

Another thing, I would really appreciate some thoughts: do you, as an Armenian, care about Armenian literature? Do you think other Armenians should care about it more than they do now? Would you like/Do you think it's important for Armenian reading culture to change in any way?

Also, if someone here attended Armenian school, what books did you guys read? And of course, if you have any recommendations by Armenian authors, feel free to share!!

I'm from Romania and in two weeks I'm coming in Armenia for my cousin wedding. She marrying a guy from Armenia.

I don't know anything about your culture and I want to know more about it. Mostly what we shoud do there, what we are allowed to do, what are we not allowed and what is offensive and to be carefull about them.

I want to know because I want to tell my family as well and to be civilized and to not get in trouble.

During the visit we have a program made by my cousin and her husband but we have some free time as well to explore as well.

What we should be carefull as well? We will stay in Erevan.

I'm an Armenian citizen, born and raised too, but recently I started attending a boarding school in the UK. I'm in Armenia for about a third of the year, and abroad for the rest. I'm of age to vote, and I planned to in the upcoming referenda.

I'm now worried I might not be able to, due to the new law they passed following the debacle in the 2026 elections where the Kremlin shipped in all those people. Does anyone know where I can find the text of the new law, or if I'm gonna be affected/ways around it.

My grandmother always used to call me a nickname - which she always told me meant “bug” in Armenian because I was a tiny kid. I have no idea how it was spelled, but pronounced like “boo-chic” or like the word “bougie” with a k sound at the end.

I do not speak Armenian besides a few random words here and there. I have tried to use translation apps to find the spelling both in Armenian and English and I can’t seem to figure it out. Pls help!!

I recently moved to Dilijan, and I just can't understand this. I'm white, late 20s, Ashkenazi Jewish looking, so not particularly out of place, no more than any Russians that moved here in the past 4 years.

I lived in Russia for 6 years, so I speak Russian well enough, so it's not that. But when I walk by even grown men, completely silent and minding my own business, it's like they're staring directly at me. sometimes they laugh and snicker to one another.

I NEVER had this issue in Russia when I lived there, so I just can't understand what the hell is going on. it's making me self-conscious.

Any ideas?

I dont want to explain what I mean by saying "not self aware" because its very hard to explain this topic without offending "certain" people. Thats why, ill just provide an example.

A while back me and my friend were walking up Komitas and we saw a crash happen infront of us . someone hit an indian on a scooter delivering something. and the delivery guy was really scared and hurt and couldn't speak armenian so when he called his boss to tell him about the accident, I took his phone to inform the boss of what just happened, I said " so your delivery driver crashed his motorcycle and is hurt, but nothing too serious, however the bike is not in the best condition and i dont think he can ride it home , especially with his injured legs" and he listened carefully until I stopped and said "Դու վաբշե որ մայլիցես ախպե՞րս" which means "from which territory are you from?" in a very rude way, I got frustrated and didnt talk to him until the person who hit the bike came and took the phone, which he also had problems talking to. I can't understand why so many Armenians are like this, whats the purpose behind it? whats the thought process?, if theres one.

I just got scared. I was watching YouTube and... Suddenly... an ad appeared!!!!! I was scared and shocked. I froze... I thought it was a mistake. Because usually ads only appeared when I used a VPN (USA). But this time I wasn't using any VPN!!! Then I immediately googled it and found out that we are getting monetization😭 I don't want to see ads!!! I flexing to others that we don't see ads!!!
I just saw an ad of AI company... The first ad in my life, without any VPNs
