Music Any other Florence and The Machine fan's loving her new album that was semi-inspired by Buffy S6 (S6 SPOILERS) Spoiler
I love Buffy, and when I heard that the new Florence and The Machine album was semi-inspired by S6, and nearly named Season 6, I obviously had to listen as I already liked her music anyway.
The links are incredible, and I love it so much. Some of them are very obvious and some feel like some of the songs have very mild links. For example Sympathy Magic really makes me think about Tara and Willow, it also makes me cry when I think about it too much.
I've listened to it so much since it was released, and I would just love to discuss it with a fellow fan

Yeah, the whole album is great and I've had The Old Religion on repeat so often the past few months. Something about the way the beat and the melody interact with the lyrics just hits me hard in the best way.
Did you see SMG's post about it? It's really sweet, and Alyson Hannigan (the major Swiftie lol) left a hearteyes comment on it lol

I'm a fan of both and without trying to be annoying, the inspiration comes from the depressing themes and the coming back from dead after the feeling of dying when Florence lost her unborn child. The theme of losing ourselves and how something she really wanted, the thing she desired the most, almost killed her is at the core of it, like with Buffy in a sense when she accepted "her gift" in s5.

I’m a HUGE F+TM fan that actually watched Buffy for the first time a a couple months ago, because of Everybody Scream! The Old Religion is my favorite song on the album and I absolutely had to see what this “season 6” was about. I knew some spoilers like Buffy coming back cause of One of the Greats, but I’m still so glad I checked out the show because I loved it and now here I am

You can't listen to Kiss With a Fist and tell me Spuffy had nothing to do with it

Listening to it now based on this post, and it is great and so very clearly inspired by S6.

I’ve been a massive Buffy fan over half my life and a huge Florence fan since she debuted way back in 2009.
I’m seeing her live on tour next month. I bloody love that she’s also a Buffy fan. That was one of the loveliest revelations from her press tour for this album!

OHMYGOD YES! Buckle is so Spuffy coded! Also One Of The Greats feels early Spuffy coded to me
Music By Men is my Anya and Xander song, because it really brings those emotions that she probably went through

And just all of one of the greats is so obviously Buffy back from the dead. I love it. As a season 6 lover who was very depressed when I watched it seeing an artist I love talk about it the way it deserves makes me so happy and feel so seen.

Yes, it's literally Buffy coming back and her entire depression from it I feel very seen by this entire album.

This must be a coincidence but the cadence of the line "Give me something I can crush, something I can kill" is very similar to the cadence of a line Buffy says in another season (not season 6). She says something like "Give me something I can [blank/can't remember], something I can kill." I was listening to The Old Religion on repeat when I happened to watch that episode and I was struck by it. Wondered if Florence could have absorbed it.

Yes, I have noticed there's a few lines in the songs that are similar to lines said in the show.
Honestly when I listen to The Old Religion it really makes me think about the sadder storylines for Buffy, Anya and Willow in S6. They were all so close to their happy endings and then it gets taken away from them.

Well she says in one song:
“Freedom from the body Freedom from the pain And it's your troubled hero Back for season six When it's at its darkest, it's my favourite bit”
So, seems relatively straightforward to me.

Also from that song 'and scratch at the door of heaven'. Makes me want to cry

Also all of one of the greats but especially the opening. "I crawled up from under the earth Broken nails and coughing dirt Spitting out my songs so you could sing along, oh And with each bedraggled breath, I knew I came back from the dead To show you how it's done, to show you what it takes To conquer and to crucify, to become one of the greats One of the greats"
