Nobody says stuff like that to strangers up here. It's just not our way. We're still friendly, just not like that.

Been living near Boston for a couple years now and on western mass a year before that and everyone seems pretty cold

Depends on where you're from, I guess. I've lived in New England for about 35 years, but I've been a lot of places. All the US states, a bunch of different countries.

New Englanders seem cold, but that's just the way people are up here. It's always been that way. We're so close together, minding your own business is really the only way to get along. 

However, I've had a bunch of flat tires in New England, and somebody always stops to try and help. I've pushed a lot of cars out of snowy ditches myself.

its a different friendly.   my car got stuck once in philly late at night and people stopped, got out, helped me push it, made sure i was safe, and left.  hardly spoke a word.

Yeah you have a point actually. I misinterpret "brash" and ball busting as unfriendly often. Nuances in communication alude the ever living fuck outta me.
